I my siblings grew up hearing my dad sing along with Marty Robbins, one of his favorite male country singers. This is one of my favorites of the awesome Marty Robbins. Best memory of Marty Robbins' music, was my dad always sang, "My Woman, My woman, My Wife to my mother. - Such Love... Awesome Dad and Husband.
sorry musik102. I did what you said . I went to hear Rodriguez., no way does he hold the light to Marty Robbins . Marty can sing anything . I love this man .
Ted Daffan recorded this in 1942, but on his record the writer is F. Brown. Maybe Brown is really Daffan, but every vinyl copy of this that I've seen has F. Brown listed as the composer...
Marty Robbins and Ray Charles surely had great versions of this song, but I've heard all the notable attempts and the best, by far, in my opinion is by LeAnn Rimes. The great Ted Daffan line -- "You were all the happiness I knew; born to lose, and now I'm losing you" -- is not included in the LeAnn version but overall she has the seminal version of this heartbreaking song, just as Linda Rodstadt's "Long Long Time" (Gary White's heartbreak classic) cannot and has not been touched by any others.
@backbeat64 Marty never actually recorded the song so it would have been interesting to see what a studio version would have been like. My own particular favourite version is by Johnny Rodriguez and Gene Pitney also did a very good recording of of it.
💞💯 ( Marty Robbins)

Tennessee Ernie Ford also did a version of this song... But I believe this is the best version of all times.. but I'm also a big fan of Marty Robbins.
I'm so used to Dean Martin's version. This version, more C.& W. is VERY pleasant!!
Marty, for my money, was the greatest
I WOOD EVERY FINE COUNTRY ARTIST TO "COVER" THIS CLASSIC...PAIN BORN IN LIFE WE ALL LIVE....
Such a comedian haha! Great song.
Ya'll forget that Born to Lose was first a Ray Price song.
If you can find it, try listening to Dean Martin's version . Very nice.
