I appreciate your excitement and enthusiasm for riding this bike. I’ve got a couple years left on my 1250GS, so I’m not looking to upgrade just yet, but the 1300 is starting to impress me, the more reviews I see of it.
I’m a proud owner of a gs1250 and today I tried the new gs1300. Now I can tell the difference: on the 1250 I feel like an Avenger while on the 1300 I feel like a mediocre rich white collar
The most hated headlight in the history of BMW? That's what I thought. But if you look around the German GS forum, it's surprising to see that almost everyone finds the design very successful. And the guys in the German GS forum are normally very fussy and always criticize almost everything about a new BMW. Personally, I also find the front light very unique. BUT: The headlight of the new Duke 990 (especially in the black version) is the king when it comes to design. What Kiska has achieved there is really great. Thanks for the video!
11:19 : ah, ook een fan van Gunther zie ik. As a fellow ex KTM 1190 adventure rider, current GS 1250 rider, I tested the new 1300 GS as well. The bike is objectively better than the 1250 GS. You can feel it is lighter and more nimble, and yes you can feel more feedback through the bars (still no KTM though). Engine pulls stronger and feels much less "out of breath" above 8000 RPM (still no KTM though). Suspension and chassis are beautifully balanced: the bike is so easy to shift from corner to corner and you ride stupid speeds even on greasy belgium automnal roads with a twist of Ciaran storm. Wind protection with electric windshield is miles ahead of the 1250's standard windshield. On the other hand, the engine sounds louder at idle (even more like a sewing machine on idle) and you pay 1100 EUR + for an akra that sounds even quiter than the 1250's stock exhaust. Engine sound has gone backwards for me. The bike is again "smoother" and more clinical then the previous version, which didn't need ironing out. It's not as clinically boring as the Multistrada V4, but we're getting there. Also, the suspension no longer feels "wafty" in road mode. It's still comfy, but sportier. Don't like the new headlamp either, other than that i'm quite fond of the bike. Did I feel sorry I rode home on my 1250 Triple black though? NOT AT ALL. What i'd really like is a pretty KTM 1290 or 1300 (never gonna happen...apparently) and a dealer that's as qualitative as the BMW dealer network (never gonna happen either unfortunately).
Reading this you should be the reviewer 😁👌. Thanks for sharing. I agree with your opinion , I have never owned a GS before so I'm interested in this model for cruising and comfort rides. The KTM is the nutty bike 😁
I only had it for a big hour, because for the moment everybody wants a go on them. I'd say based on the fact the wind protection is better (with electric windscreen) and the seat is still plush, if you compare standard machines the 1300 might even be a tad better. But I ride a ducati 916 for a weekend trip abroad with passenger seat bag and find that no problem, so I guess I can adapt. the 1300 is certainly not less comfy, it's more precise and a tad more agile, more communicative. Also more clinical, you get less sensations and it's not like the 1250 was the master of sensation. Still better than the new multi V4, but definately beaten by the KTM 1290 SAS @@robertogiraldes1868
Love watching your videos Smokey. Here’s the question. A lot of reviews are by people like yourself who can really handle a bike and dare I say it you good guys are of shorter height. I would like to see an adventure bike test comparison, two up with luggage for at least 1000 miles. This would be more real world. At 6’3 and a GSA owner I rode the 1300 and overall I agree with a lot of your comments but it wasn’t perfect for me. That extra torque is brilliant but comes in very quickly and can make the ride sometimes twitchy compared to the 1250. The gearbox shift still needs you to get to at least 2nd gear before it smooths out. I’m waiting to see the GSA and hopefully they don’t shrink the room for two people on the bike.
Storms name was Ciarán, it’s a male Irish name and it’s pronounced like this : “Key-rawn”, (as in rhymes with dawn. Great video, can’t wait to get my hands on one!
Come on BMW!!! Give Smoky the chance to try this new bike for a week or two in a warmer area and let him test the bike properly. He is brilliantly funny and can ride a bike!!!
I bought my trophy in Brazil, it comes without height adjustment and other options, I thought the resources were world-class, watching this video I understood that they are not what a shame
Great video. I’ve ridden in similar winds during storms in the Mohave Desert (California). It does tend to grab one’s attention. The Sport dash screen is similar to, if not the same as, the one on the S1000RR. If you have the phone app active, it will record the data from your ride. Besides just being fun, the lean angle information could be handy if you are trying to hang off more in corners in order to reduce maximum lean angle. (You can use the data for comparison on known courses.) It will be interesting to see how the new BMW Motorrad GPS unit works. It is no longer from Garmin, which also means it does not have their maps. The new unit is not badged other than as BMW, but was developed by TomTom. The battery has substantially greater capacity. The user has to download the relevant regional maps. The new unit does integrate with the bike, as before, including with the control wheel.
I updated my comment regarding the new GPS unit. I was at my local dealership today and learned the new GPS is by TomTom (so not a no-name brand). Thanks again for the great review. I told others about it at the BMW shop.
Specially the 719 option with all the fancy parts, looks nice. But…The sound of the engine seems strange, there are different noises now, when steering. The bike feels so different also, more nimble and solid, for the first time I could say what’s happening with the front tyre, and at the same time the wind protection for your legs, seems to be…gone!?And the punch down low of the engine has been replaced for a pointy top end power boost?… does it still feel like a GS? Yeah but converted into a in town good manners bike? I tested a bike today, with only 150 kms in the odometer and I couldn’t give it the beans, but overall I got the sensation they converted the GS into a nice expensive toy-bike. I got a 1250 2022 RT, so would I buy the new R 1300 GS? If it was my only bike, I wouldn’t. But as a fancy modern all around second bike, yes. Why not? Nice video Christopher, look out for that strong wind blast man, that was aggressive on the highway 😅👍🏻👍🏻
That's exactly how I feel about it to. It's a very modern version of the previous version for sure. It still has the DNA I must say but it feels much sportier and lighter in my opinion 😁
Yes, we agree on all that. In mho we’ve got to give it a chance, because as I demand respect from others related to my work, I use to apply that rule to the others professionally, so I presume BMW knows what they’re doing. Sometimes it takes a while to step up beyond once this is a major change to adapt. The reality is that BMW was getting left behind with their most important product towards their competitors and this new bike shows the BMW effort of modernization of their flagship motorcycle. That’s clear to me. Are they going on the right path? I concur with those who think in deed, they are. But the bike is quieter and the wind protection for our legs is not so good as it was (I think), they almost made the GS look and feel a little like a naked bike, but at the same time I think it is for the best. It’s a matter of switching off the comparative mode between the models . This bike seems to brake better, steer better and ride in general terms, better. So, we got to give it a chance. Just for security safe decision, I will wait to see the new GSA and than I can say what I really think about the whole thing. ✌️✌️
Only thing I don't like is the cockpit feel of the bike with the weird ear like windshield on the sides. Rest all is cool and crisp. They could've done it much better like a 310 GS.
There's such a wide spectrum of bikes in the adventure bike category. I like fast and sporty, which is why I bought a Ducati Pikes Peak (I never plan on going off road regardless of what bike I own). I can appreciate the more SUV-like nature of the GS and the additional comfort features it provides. My new challenge is trying to decide whether to keep my Pikes Peak or upgrade to the new V4RS. I really enjoy your vids.

new bike and full revolutions... not the best idea sorry. I don't understand why people doesn't treat motors well, then they complain a second hand drops the price really low
I'm sure it rides fine, but Customers buy with their Heart more than any other factor. Smaller, lighter, faster wo cares??? It just does not make me jump out of my seat and run to the Dealer. This is coming from someone who owned (7) BMW bikes including (4) GS and GSAs and currently riding the 1250 RT. I do hope that they won't screw up the GSA! If I ever want to go back to an ADV/Touring, I may consider the Multi V4s instead. Pretty sad!
Had a 1200 and a 1250 and both aren’t great at anything else but chugging around slowly. When you pushed them on they are terrible and not for anyone who’s enjoys spirited riding. If the new model is as good as is looks with the lighter weight and better handling I may well go back to one.
A small one , but wheelies during a storm with wind coming from the side that could blow me away is kinda scary. Also the only demo bike from the shop , can't crash it haha
Don't hate the player , hate the game 😁. People ask me if it can do wheelies in 3rd gear? For me it's the same question as "how wide is the handlebar?". I just answer questions 😌
Can I get a Like , a Subscribe and a Share for being so dedicated riding the new BMW 1300 GS during Storm Ciaran with 120km/u winds? 😅

new bike and full revolutions... not the best idea sorry. I don't understand why people doesn't treat motors well, then they complain a second hand drops the price really low
This bike already has lots of issue 😂😂😂
Try new 450 Himalayas
Working on it 😎
nice nice, your hight is not much important as inseam for touching/flatfooting the ground..... thnx!
So spill the beans, what is your inseam 🤷🏻♂️
No wheelies there😢
A small one , but wheelies during a storm with wind coming from the side that could blow me away is kinda scary. Also the only demo bike from the shop , can't crash it haha
I don't like the light, it's horrible.
You missed the sighting of the new Tesla Model 3 at 16:36!
Gonna contact Tesla soon for press fleet cars to for my car channel. Didn't even notice it 😅
@@LifeofSmokey Ah, didn't know you had a car channel. I'd be interested in a review of the new model 3.
👍…✌️
22:44 wtf nazguls here
👏👏👏🤩🏀🤩
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 gloves
katastrofalan dizajn
Wheeling the bike, really! And for what reason? Young kids do not purchase this type of bike!
Don't hate the player , hate the game 😁. People ask me if it can do wheelies in 3rd gear? For me it's the same question as "how wide is the handlebar?". I just answer questions 😌
I’m 49 years old and still pull big high long wheelies, its great being a good rider and the thrills we have compared to normal boring riders like you
You must be really old…
@@mbal4052 you do know anything about dude, do you have GS? And is that what this bike is about? That's my point
@@LifeofSmokey theirs no hate when you have no game! But if that's your reply, okay..
Why should you ride in bad conditions and others should not? Because you wanted to create content? No need to reply, those are rhetorical questions…
