30 years being a disciple of all things Cave and I've never seen this. Insane.
from the boy next-door to the birthday party in 18 months magic
33. And I'm lying.
yep same here....II thought I owned every nick cave recording.... I love the rawness of ththe boys next door though....
Likewise, didn't know about this one.
@@madenabennett "Rawness". Ha ha ha. I hope you aren't referring to this over engineered jobbie. You would have loved it live. I did
He was born with a suit. Great singer writer
This is such a proto-Goth gem. It's these sorts of videos that really showcase the point in time where Goth was beginning to spawn from Punk. Nick Cave was such a babe in this video. I am in love with how simple (according to Goth standards) yet incredibly Gothy his look is.
Goth Goth Gothy Gotho Gotheroni! You win Goth Bingo!!!
Nick is not fa**, so don't bother
@milansavic2803 He's not what? Farm? That can't be. Fall? Nah that doesn't make sense. Fair? Maybe but not sure what that has to do with anything so that's unlikely. What is this four letter word that you're saying? It feels like I'm on Wheel of Fortune.

5 years later: I AM THE KIIIIIIIIIIIIING
...King Of Junkyard !
Jajaja
The missing ingredient here, which brought about that transformation: Rowland S. Howard!
so true
Wish I was The Kiiiiiiiing; I'm still the Dim Locator
This man is just as great and intense at 62 as he was in The Boys Next Door and just as smoldering, even the suit. The talent was there even then he's a performer. Those eyes OMG I think his eyeliner is pretty damn good too. He had the drive even then.
Holy hell! After listening to this non-stop, I find out that it has a clip!!!!! Nick looks like heaven haha
Everything changed once they added Rowland Howard.
You’re right. But both Nick and Rowland had the high regard for Lee Hazelwood’s songs.
He was SO cute and look at his amazeing eyes. Beautiful suit and wastecoat.Smooth as!
Nick Cave was always a kind of mod punk. This video proves it.
Tracey Pew was just seconds away from flailing his head as far back as he could without falling over, but the song finished and cut to red. @1:37 Tracey Pew, the man with the rage in his eyes. A mean bass player and huge presence. How could Nick ever have failed? Tracey, Mick, Rowland(I know he's not in this clip) were very important to THE BIRTHDAY PARTY. MONTSTEROUS.
That's Mick Harvey - Tracey isn't there.
@@muzbuz1043 You're right. Sorry.
@@rossmenzies1484 All good, I'm sorry too.
Amazing clip, but thank god ( for them and us ) Rowland eventually joined.
Exactly!
Rowland made the band play this song, before he formally joined...he was a massive fan of Lee Hazelwood. They did a lot of covers in the early days, all kinds of stuff. So good live.
A very Kinks beginning...love it all❤
Thanks TH-cam for gems like this one !
Still alluring... The man still has it.
Nick in his emo phase before his emo phase became his emo life
Except it wasn't called "emo" back then, it was "new wave"
It's post-punk man, not emo hahahaha
Yeah no it's def "IT'S NOT A PHASE MOM" 😂
Howlin Pelle and the rest of the Hives have watched this, for sure.
Love it love this found this by accident
This cover is gonna be my next obsession I love it as much as the original plus it’s punk.
Tracy’s epic stare at 1:37
Génial! Nick Cave w1s 21 years old! :-)
Nick was born in 1958, so he'd have been about 19 or 20 when this came out.
oh my...a treasure
Seeing The Pop Group turned this into the Birthday Party
The difference in Nick’s vocals here and in The Birthday Party are obviously due to some influence from Mark Stewart.
Adorable.
all about the drummer's shirt
Another Ohrwurm, dear chap... very interesting production too... keep on rockin'!
I really wish they were next door lol
baby nick
Fetus Nick is how the kids would put it.
Are you ready boots?
Gosh! Nick Babe ❤️❤️❤️
Oh i think i found a hidden treasure...
you didnt find it its been around a long time
I'm pretty sure most hidden treasures are around for a long time before people find them; that's the nature of the term. If El Dorado is unearthed tomorrow, people will say it's been 'found'.
pure gold
oh god
Yeah!
*Changes underwear*
Original take on this great song!
goddamn.... this takes me back!!!!
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It fucking kicks azzzzz!
Fantastic❤
YEAH!
I'm OBSESSED! 💖
Historico!!
Even Nick's teeth are unique!
happy 65 Nick ;-)
ohmy- 🖤💫
I may or may not have called this "stolid" on first listen, but I take it back now. Even though it isn't NEARLY as good as the stuff Cave would go on to do with The Birthday Party (let alone the Bad Seeds!) it can't be called stolid. It's a neat little rave-up; a good silly cover of a silly old song. I like it.
Haha best mullet
Well we've all gotta start somewhere 😂
excelente
I hope Nick Cave outlives us all
He looks like Gary Numan
Nick use to resemble a young Iggy Pop 70s 80s
Or even the dark side of Nena.
Here, here 👍👍👍
🤩🤩🤩🤩
This is the most visceral shit Ive seen in a long time
Holy shit I found this by accident, no idea this song was bought out by ***that*** woman like 15 odd years ago. This is a way better version than that filth, hated it even then and I was like 14 at the time.
Does anyone know if this was actually was actually played on Australian Countdown?
I know that Meldrum wouldn't play The Birthday Party.
Yeah, this song was played on Countdown.
this and johnny thunders' cover kill
...and what he knows, you ain't had time to learn!
Versión de Nancy Sinatra
!! Muy buena!!
Nick Cave is the man
Nick Cave as Mick Jagger
Think this one Nick would like to take back 😅
Mick and Phill? Who is playing bass - anyone know?
Wiki says Tracey Pew. You don't often see Fender Coronado Basses....
Tracey Pew. RIP. (Passed away 7 November 1986 )
Tracey Pew sans cowboy hat.
You gotta have a look or else ya can’t sell anything
DAMN,..this is GREAT
Take a look at the remake some Aussies did of These Boots Are Made for Walkin' It's super unique! th-cam.com/video/XIBMSAps9s4/w-d-xo.html
It's s o o o Spinal Tap lol.
Gimmie some monayyy...
Wow! How embarrassing. Betcha Nick wishes this was burnt, never to be seen. Even Tracy looks like a wimp. Thank god Rowland came along.... 🤣👍✌️💖
nick cavern 💀
Nick completely lost me after Lazarus.
yikes..
??
???
Terrible.
Lil nick
I love that two years later they were this churning bacchanal of chaos
Me too! I can barely believe it. They sound a bit like the Boomtown Rats here, or somebody like that. Just very stolid punk. And then two years later they were...The Birthday Party! Singin' "Release the Bats"! Pretty hard to believe.
"Churning bacchanal of chaos" - I've never heard The Birthday Party described more succinctly, it may not be possible to.
The magic moment for me was Rowland S Howard's permanent guitar scream at the beginning of 'The Friend Catcher'
As this comparison shows, post-punk was just punk getting into its stride.
Amber X, you sound like a woman after my own heart! I think you're SO right about Rowland S. Howard's guitar in "The Friend Catcher"; it really was a magic moment.
Adorable.
This reminds me of The Cure covering Foxy Lady on their debut album.
Little did they know that things would get pretty fucking dark very fucking quickly.
How cute is this. Nick a boy with style and intensity - always...
Baby Tracey perfecting his hip thrust!
I'm about the same age as him...chased him round West Berlin lol...but I have never seen this little gem before. ..Thank you for the upload. ..and I can't remember ever looking that young lol!
That is amazing! That must have been a hell of a good time and memories for life ❤
To be fair this was early days, they were so young and just making a name for themselves. Doing a cover was a way to get themselves noticed and it got them on a mix album Lethal Weapon with the Suicide label. Roland was certainly influential but things changed because they gained experience and the confidence to experiment more.
Wow just tripped across this clip by accident, and what a gem it is....... Insane really that I never knew about this track.
he performed this live on Australian tv in 1978 on the Hey Hey Its Saturday Morning show.
When he breaks out those funky moves 😍😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤❤
Well, all things considered, the introduction of Rowland S. Howard and heroin into the mix could be only described as extremely beneficial......
I am speechless! this is golden!
the singer reminds me someone
Really something!
So - Nick, Tracy, Mick & Phill...
Right?
I did not expect to find this...
Wow! Just... Wow!!!
holy shit gold
I love him so much 🖤🔪
Cave forever
looks like billy joe armstrong
gary numan, I thought...
Isn't this suppose to be a girl's song? All in all it was a great cover!🤘
Nick Cave!!!!!
Can anyone name anyone else who has been so good for so long?
You keep saying you got something for me
Something you call love but confess
You've been a'messin' where you shouldn't 've been a'messin'
And now someone else is getting all your best
These boots are made for walking
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you
You keep lyin' when you oughta be truthin'
You keep losing when you oughta not bet
You keep samin' when you oughta be a'changin'
Now what's right is right but you ain't been right yet
These boots are made for walking
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you
You keep playing where you shouldn't be playing
And you keep thinking that you'll never get burnt (HAH)
I just found me a brand new box of matches (YEAH)
And what he knows you ain't had time to learn
These boots are made for walking,
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you
Are you ready, boots? Start walkin'
Just shows a 1978 trip to Berlin., sorts everything out!
I had no idea Nick went that far back. Is he immortal?

This makes me wish lou miami and the cosmetics covered this.
