I knew the band so the music was not new to me but the performance itself was a statement that is unique in the history of prime time TV to this day. Provocative, dirty, aggressive, druggy, dangerous, downright scary: cool as fuck. This night I learned there was no sexier bass than a Rickenbacker. That’s who SA were aspiring to be…I remember going to a SA show tripping on acid. David Yow asked if anyone had seen the cover of their new album - ‘Berserker’. He handed me the mic, and I started spewing whatever lysergic razzmatazz flying through my brain at that moment. His eyes got wider and wider and he slowly attempted to pull the microphone away from me, growing almost desperate in his efforts. Needless to say, I scared the shit out of David Yow. I doubt I would’ve even gotten close to the microphone in Nick Cave’s hands in his Birthday Party pomp. Don’t put the cart before the horse, or in this case, the kicking mustang.
