I think honestly the lost caverns of ixalan decks were so much better than a lot of precons they released. The pirates one is a bit lacking but the other three are all on par in my opinion. Merfolk can pop off so easy and take over so quick, blood rites can pull off some good things with sacrificing, and Dino’s are just awesome!
Veloci-Ramp-Tor is the best precon I've ever bought. While it doesn't "need" a lot of upgrading there are some pretty strong things to add in still. Creatures: Gishath Sun's Avatar, Ghalta Primal Hunger, Ghalta Stampede Tyrant, Etali Primal Conquerer, Vaultborn Tyrant, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, Hulking Raptor, Tranquil Frillback, Hunting Velociraptor. Enchantments: Garuk's Uprising, Guardian Project, Welcome to... (Jurrasic Park), Lurking Predators, Trouble in Pairs. Artifacts: The Skullspore Nexus, Monster Manual, The Great Henge, Herald's Horn Spells: Nature's Lore, Three Visits, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Open the Way, Farewell, Blasphemous Act, Teferi's Protection, Flawless Maneuvers, Archdruid's Charm, Boros Charm, Heroic Intervention, Smuggler's Surprise, Ephemerate. Battle: Invasion of Ikoria Lands: Fortunately basics work pretty well with ramp spells. But standard fetch, shock, surveil, bond, triome upgrades are always nice. Cavern of Souls and Yavimaya Cradle of Growth also MVPs.
It would have been nice if you guys explained a little more how you determined which one was the best deck. Or even have multiple categories and score them like you did in the past with other videos.
I'm surprised there aren't more one color precons out there. There are a ton of great creatures that would make for solid decks for players who are just wanting to start out and try an easy deck. Precons for cards like Ayula, queen among bears, Urza Lord High Artificer, or Krenko Mob Boss would sell like Goblincakes.
ALRIGHT HOLD ON HOW ARE YALL JUST GONNA BE IN THE NEW DANCE GAVIN DANCE VIDEO AND NOT TALK ABOUT IT?! You guys mashed up two of my favorite things ever and I’m so happy I could cry
Just got into magic. I'm devastated the necrons precon cost $178 online. That's one of the only precons I'm interested in, and can't justify paying that much.
Interesting that you didn't include any of the 300-400 BC era decks, just wouldnt have expected such a high quality channel to miss something like this.
As for Arahbo being the best 2017 deck-it really depends. My friends and I played those decks every day, and you’re completely right about Inalla. If my memory serves me correctly, the Dragon deck won more than any other, just because games went long enough that the mana didn’t matter. It was definitely the most oppressive of the bunch, but the scariest turn of the game was when Arahbo untapped with 8 mana and could cast its commander and activate its ability. So you’re not far off.
I actually got the 2012 quick quiz right so uhhhhh hit that like if you did too. The 2013 Prossh was my very first precon and made me obnoxioisly obsessed to aristocrats for nearly half my life now.
Actual story is Gavin took my personal U/R commander deck to spellsling against fans. It was a fun hit so it later turned into Heads I Win, Tails You Lose.
There must be something in the air, cuz I was thinking/been stuck on about the best precons literally last week. Now we have like, 5 videos from big content creators on it? Also, Old school commanders are making a comeback. I've been loving Sedris, and Sharuum. Playing OG commanders has been something our groups have been doing, and there's SO much value in nostalgia. Love love love this video
Good to see some love for Revenant Recon after it missed the mention in your Precons Worth Buying vid just a while back. It's on sale at BestBuy for like $30. A STEAL.
What would be good is to discuss which one is the best to upgrade to play cEDH... because they are so many precon that we don't even know which one to choose... and at the end I even wonder if it is not better to make one from scratch buying singles...
You won't get cEDH out of a precon, ever. The closest one to even scratching cEDH would be slivers based solely off of box commanders alone. You would be better off buying singles, but for a cEDH deck you're also looking to spend close to 10,000 USD for one thats going to be meta relevant.
And when they decided to pump out commander decks for every single set is when everything started going downhill for every other format..and its so pushed for commander now it's all we ever see
For 2021 i would argue the Kaldheim Elf deck was better even though the DnD precons are good. Also, Inalla was disjointed but those tokens led to a lot of low to the ground value.
I’d like to apologize up front here for how stupid I am. I JUST made the connection between Mia and her hair colors because she loves Shadow. Idk why but I just had a eureka moment 😂 I love the colors but now I’m like ohhhh I get it
The fact you chose prosh over nekusar is actually criminal, nekusar soo much better. Edit: AND Breya over Atraxa? What kinda crazy stuff were you guys smoking for this episode man the slowbro island episode made more sense.
The Windgrace precon was hot garbage. Mana base sucked and it was trying to do like 8 things poorly at once instead of 2-3 things well. Also, for a land based precon it sure had a lot of trash filler lands.

Add a little bit of mill to the pirates and it turns into the strongest of the four.

@3:32 living death was actually printed in necrons and sauron precons :)

i started playing mtg a week before AFC released. It was such a good year with cool themes. It was a great time to start playing.
ALRIGHT HOLD ON HOW ARE YALL JUST GONNA BE IN THE NEW DANCE GAVIN DANCE VIDEO AND NOT TALK ABOUT IT?! You guys mashed up two of my favorite things ever and I’m so happy I could cry
Stumbled onto you guys from the new DGD video, always wanted to get into TCG’s but never have before, think now’s the time B)
Magic is so much fun, I hope you have a great time playing! 💖
I still have Necron Dynasties sleeved up and haven't changed it at all. Fun to break out once in a while.
Just got into magic. I'm devastated the necrons precon cost $178 online. That's one of the only precons I'm interested in, and can't justify paying that much.
what a coincidence, I just watched the new Dance Gavin Dance music video and saw you guys, and this is the next video in the alogrithm!
It did it to me too!!!
Interesting that you didn't include any of the 300-400 BC era decks, just wouldnt have expected such a high quality channel to miss something like this.
The Freyalise precon is so OP, even after so many years it wrecks with massive elves
Here for the RKF playmats 0:53 ! Whoot whoot!

I think the Merfolk deck from CIX was even better than Ramptor. Matbe not in reprint value but total strength

Ditto and the second I added food chain to that deck I realized that I am through and through a combo player
Really want to collect the older decks but damn are the expensive 😫 pretty cool that I have a few on this list though
That full holo reanimate deck was a beast
Actual story is Gavin took my personal U/R commander deck to spellsling against fans. It was a fun hit so it later turned into Heads I Win, Tails You Lose.

Nice cameo in the new DGD video :)

Was agreeing with you until 2017. Edgar, even as a pre-con, was just simply the best deck in the 2017 commander set. Like overwhelmingly so.

i have these deck from buying the Commander Anthology sets when they came out
Living Death was on my first ever Precon, Sauron deck
17:13 I had it I think Morph was one
I LOVE the return of the Grave Titan! ALL HAIL!!
28:23 my dad wouldn’t be good with that precon i got him the clue one
And when they decided to pump out commander decks for every single set is when everything started going downhill for every other format..and its so pushed for commander now it's all we ever see
Vrondiss is better 21:54 I play against it you definitely overplay it’s power
Dance Gavin Dance???? Go get em nerds!!!

I love the colors but now I’m like ohhhh I get it
2017 was my favorite decks ;p
merlfolks not top of 2023?! were you sleeping last half year? :D
2nd place on my 1st fav channel, let's go
Progressive metal nerds as well? So sick
Wanted to comment that I've really enjoyed the content lately, than you!
Missed the 2009 MTGO ones!
Darn, 8 seconds wasn't soon enough
My boy Mimeoplasm 🙌

Prosh goes ♾️ with a ham sandwich.
Oof, 2017 I would’ve gone with Edgar…
Mirko beats Stella Lee every time with Grave Titan
I bought the Anje deck and got steamrolled by the other precons.
Is Joe Cherries fired or retired?
Amicably split. They have their own channel
@@chrisvanderheiden12thanks. Good to know. Was wondering for a bit and didn’t see any comments mentioning. Must have missed the update.
Zhuldok will rein supreme
Eldrazi Unbound is the best precon ever. Will smash Edgar and Dinos all day long.
I agreed until you got to 2023. Clavileno/Blood Rights is not that good. Hakbal and Timey Wimey are both better
35 new decks a year is too much they should go back to one commander release each year with four or five decks
happy to be the first view, love to see it

Lost me with the 2017 take
Your picks suck.
