  • This video came from an idea one of my subscribers who suggested this idea. You know who you are but WOW that was some work. I'm not sure I'll do that again but I took the Deus II, Nokta Makro Legend, and the Minelab Equinox 800 on a walk through a section of this huge farm I permission to metal detect on. I will state up front that I have Park 1 of the Equinox set up for a coin program that I forgot about and didn't figure out until the end but I addressed that in the video. I'm not sure there was anything Earth shattering in this video but they are 8 REAL Virgin targets that sounded good with the XP Deus 2. I put a lot of time in this video so I appreciate your time watching it. Drop me a comment and offer me your thoughts and suggestions.

    To the fan boys there's no detector as good as theirs no matter how many test are done and the outcome. Every detector is different and used differently by each user. Some hunt coins, some relics, beaches,. Etc.. I'd say buy what you can afford and enjoy the hobby.

    Thanks for making this excellent video. I live where the dirt is too mineralized for single frequency detectors to do very well. So, I own a three detectors tested in the video also and really like them. Same results for me. Head to head all three are great detectors and won't miss much. No matter what you may have heard....all three work great for coins, jewelry and relics. Like the video maker said, it is all about your budget and any ergonomics requirements you might have.

    I’m just so happy other companies including Deus and Nokta, came out with multi frequency. Having a detector that you can select singles if there’s too much EMI, different bands of multi frequencies, minerals, salt water, and lastly waterproof. I love my Deus 2 for weight/balance over anything but the Legend appears to be a great machine. When you factor the base machine is 1/3 the deus 2 and half or less than the new Nox, 1/3 the Manticore, if value is the main factor and affordability then the Legend is the clear winner. It’s also built like a tank. I need to get out and play with the Legend too, just hard to get out these days.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Built like a tank yes but still not even close to the D2. Its a great machine for the price no doubt. Just my 2 cents.

    • @jerrytalley802
      @jerrytalley802 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey mental, Liam has a Deus 2 and he uses the Legend. He feels there’s something with full tones still not right but will be fixed soon I’m sure? I love the Deus products hands down, but they’re 20% better, not 300% is the jist of what I meant. If I can only have one machine, Deus 2, all the way. Just not crazy about the whole wire to submerge, got to get a special lower shaft to dive, etc. They need to improve the remote control Mount, make something like the aftermarket stuff to hold the remote, replace the flexible lower shaft with carbon fiber, etc.

    • @MentalMetal

  • @proudlyamerican2764

    Its neat to see what each call it and thank you for the effort it takes to do this! That said imo it's a i.d./call it show until you get co-located or edge of detection/iffy good targets which are hard to find and not very easy to get on camera I'm certain. This is in no way a hit on your video just an logical observation for the fellas confirming what they swing is equal,best,just as good!

    I hunt in heavy iron, and I compared 200 signals, 100 found with Equinox and 100 found with the Deus 2. I didn't record it on video, but both detectors could hit every target. When a signal was sketchy and not a clear dig on one machine, it was also sketchy on the other. I think the performance margins are much closer than people think largely because the physics of the situation is the real limiting factor.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I think you guys are both spot on. I am finding that I take the D2 along more now than the Nox. I do think you have more configuration options with the D2 but that is also its downfall since a lot folks don't like tinkering with settings. I do which is why I think I'm enjoying my experience with the D2.

    • @LorenLemcke
      @LorenLemcke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MentalMetal Yup, I definitely like the feature set on the D2. As of the moment, I prefer the Equinox 800 in the park for cherry-picking. In my location the Equinox can distinguish between the highly abundant aluminum screw caps (TID 20-28) and large copper coins (TID 24-32), D2 gives them both a TID of 90-95, rendering them indistinguishable which makes it less useful in the park. Also the 6" Equinox coil is a great option in my parks which are heavily polluted with both iron and aluminum. However, I am liking the D2 for marathon field sessions because its easier to swing and it's feature set is a bit more diverse for farm field conditions. I like the D2 better in single frequency compared to the Equinox 800 in single frequency, which also makes it a better selection for farm fields, which in my location often have high intensity power lines near certain parts forcing a swap to single frequency to avoid EMI.
      Bottom line, both are very useful tools and I like to have both so I can make the best selection possible for the search conditions.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Loren and I think you are spot on. I had that 6" coil for Nox but man it was weird swinging it but it proved itself to be valued especially in those high trash conditions as you mentioned. I haven't given up on the Nox myself but I am finding myself holding the D2 more than the Nox but my conditions lately (open fields) just makes the most sense. I appreciate your insight on both machines. Thanks again.

    Good comparison..I’ve been using the Deus2 for a while but the deep target audio and ID s are a bit sketchy for me. It’s the price we pay for having a machine running on the limit of stability that’s probably why it needs all the fiddly bells and whistles to keep it stable.I’ve gone back to using my Nox which has good deep tones and nice steady IDs. Im finding those deep targets again the Deus doesn’t. But if you want a machine to fiddle with get a Deus loads of fiddling no advantages ..well not for me..+ the big coil on the Nox is great..

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need more time on the machine my friend IMO but it comes down to preference and what you enjoy using. Some will never get used to the Deus and all its tonal nuances that really do make a difference once you pick up on it but it does take some time to pick up those things.

      Its a decent machine for the money. You might like it but its to close to an Equinox and I know you didn't favor the sounds so you may not like this one. I struggle with the iron tones they put out and they turn it way down by default so you will need to increase the iron volume a bit.

    Just got back from a trip to a place we went to last year. Hunted a couple 12x16 tent sites in an old mine camp last year & came up with 6 coins, a friend hunted it after me & pulled 2 more (both using Nox800.) I went back today with the Deus2 & pulled 6 more coins! Not really deep, just separated the targets better.

    • @oldplucker1
      @oldplucker1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the Nox try using field 2 recovery 5 or 6 or maybe 4 on those sites. Also iron bias 0. My Nox can be set up to beat my D1 by a long way separating iron. And also lower sensitivity can go deeper and get between the iron better. Very high sensitivity picks up too much iron, ground and junk all at once masking signals. Also coil size and shape make a big difference to separation. Small coils like the Coiltek 10x5 work really well for me.
      I have been eyeing up the D2 but coil cover design stops it sliding over wet sand well. Also I can set the Nox up to see like an X-Ray and it has
      very logical settings. Notching below zero and using zone volumes to get rid of ground signals.
      The D2 is expensive and until they supply over the head phones as standard I will wait. Also did a real live real soil test on a low conductor simulating a small hammered coin at 8 inches (11” coils) and my Nox setup beat the D2 by a clear 3 inches on depth detecting it 4 inches above the soil. The Legend, Simplex and Apex could not even register a signal on that test.

  • @jeanponce2017
    @jeanponce2017 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    On target 5 the nail the Legend was the most consistent in staying quiet with only a slight false chirp in one direction in only one mode. The other settings it went silent. The Deus 2 while it sounded like it slightly falsed but in that detector it does it BUT it was signaling iron. The Minelab was hitting it in several modes including the "custom" park mode that was set to hunt coins. When the detector falses it causes you to stop and investigate it closer so on that iron target the Legend was the detector that would have kept you walking right on by and not waisting your time.
    On target 6 with the iron and the scrap aluminum the Legend IMO on how my ear heard it was hitting it a little better then the Minelab and Deus 2. But I'm used to having to listen for and digging up target hits are pulling both iron and non iron targets. I wish there was a deeper target where it would test which detectors would or wouldn't hit those extremely deep targets. But again only my opinion the Legend at the very least wasn't at the bottom of the list and it was a toss up between the Legend and the Deus 2 so the extremely deep targets might be how to decide which is the best.
    On the Minelab even though it was in a custom program for coins it was hitting the iron where I think it should've disc'ed it out better???
    I'm personally at a toss up between the Deus 2 and the Legend. You can get 2 Legends for 1 Deus BUT I've seen the Deus 2 dig coins in worked out areas that the Equinox and the Manticore both did not hit. Then I saw a live unplanted hunt side by side test the Manticore got deep hits that read a dime 3 times and the Deus 2 blanked on all three meaning it was calling it iron and when dig it was dug up all 3 target hits were iron?
    So I can't help but wanting to get the Deus 2 unless I can find a side by side hunt in a worked out park where this side by side test was done with the Deus, Manticore and the Nox 800 which was better discing out iron then the Manticore but couldn't hit elbow deep targets the Deus hit which kind of surprised all 3 guys running this live dig side by side. IDK I'm surprised at how the Nox was a little jumpy on some of the ID's even though it was good on getting most of the tone ID's correct which should get most people to dig.
    I currently don't swing any of these 3 so it's an unbiased opinion although I am sold on the Deus 2 but the jury for me is still out if the Legend can't run toe to toe with the Deus 2. I'll probably see a live side by side where it does keep up but not until after I get the Deus SMH. It's not the price difference where I want the Legend to match it though it is a great deal already but I water hunt and the set up with the wiring for the Deus to take it in the water bothers me being I'm rough on machines. I'm currently using a Fisher CZ-21 in the water and it is built as tough as a tank but it weighs like one too! And I also use Pulse induction when I can so that's not in question on comparisons here but this year I am moving to upgrade and I won't lose buying the Deus but the Legend is a silent shocker of a machine that looks to be more rugged then the Deus is.
    Thank You for the test it was very informative I don't think anyone would go wrong with any of these 3 most people won't need to push them to their limitations or be nearly as abusive on them like tossing them around in a boat and a canoe where durability is a must

      lol sorry I can't help myself sometimes. I've been recovering from having my pelvis crushed and haven't been able to walk for 2 years and I'm losing it going stir crazy inside for so long. I've hunted since 1979 so I understand detectors but can't personally get out to test anything all I can do is watch a million videos and try not to drive everyone crazy. The good news is after insane amounts of therapy and exersizing I've finally reached the point where I've been able to get around on my own 2 legs without crutches or a walker and it looks like this summer I'll hopefully be able to come back to life and detect in real life again

    • @oldplucker1
      @oldplucker1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the Nox 800 and use field 2 on most fields which gives the best depth. In Treasure Hunting mag (May) they have a list of the best targets found and how good the signal was. All but one reported a good solid signal. So most machines would get the majority of bucket listers. I found a bucket lister a few weeks back and sure enough it was a good solid signal. It is a surprising conclusion to me because I dig all sorts of dodgy signals but 99 percent of them are junk.
      I will probably only dig good signals from now on.

    • @scottp4193

      This video was in a field with very little to no trash. I have both as well, and the deus2 discriminates and is much faster than the Nox. I’ll keep my Nox800 for now cause I really enjoyed using it. The Deus2 does have a learning curve but it’s my go to machine now.

    This video proves that the Legend and the Nox can find the same targets the Deus II found. But it does not prove that the Deus II can find the same targets as the other 2. If you have the time it would be great if you would find 5-10 targets with the Nox and another 5-10 with the Legend and test the other detectors on them as well. Then we would see if there is any relevant difference between those 3 detectors.

    One important thing that you missed on is the looks, I'm sorry to all of the noxeons but that machine is ugly, a straight stick with a huge handle and a huge screen, and the manicore look's exactly the same, I see all the nox users trying to add little upgrades to try and make it look better, colored wires, stickers for the screen, need shafts, they remind me of teenagers upgrading their Honda civics, nope even if the manicore was twice the machine, I still wouldn't swing it

    • @MentalMetal
