  • After waiting a whole year for this bag, it's finally here. However, it does not really fit as much as I expected. There are a few design flaws.

    I can appreciate this video.
    However, I have this bag and I’m able to fit:
    TOP PART (The Loft)
    1 Sony A9II with the 35mm GM Lens
    IN THE “CUBE” SECTION I have the two cube configuration, in it I have:
    1 24-70mm GM Sony lens
    1 14-24 Sigma lens
    1 50mm GM Sony lens
    1 24mm GM Sony Lens
    1 GoPro 9
    1 ND Filter
    2 Wireless Go Mics/Transmitter
    1 Anker power bank
    Various cables
    LAPTOP SECTION:
    16” MacBook Pro M1 Max
    SIDE POCKET ONE:
    Manfroto tripod
    SIDE POCKET TWO
    Water Bottle or Miscellaneous pocket
    I can’t help but feeling like people try to put square pegs into round holes and say it’s no good. This bag is not for everybody, but it works for my needs.

      You can fit more with smaller gear. They use canon gear in their marketing materials and so do I and I cannot fit nearly as much as they did unless you do not take your laptop.

    Nice points in your video. I think they made this backpack more for a run and gun style for your day of work, not to carry every equipment that you have. The loft (top compartment) would house your camera body and attached lens, and the inside area would just house things that you might need for the day. At least that's how I will use it when I'm blessed to get mine hopefully soon. Most likely I'll use my PM Travel backpack if I need to carry most if not all of my equipment. Again, great honest video! 👍🏽

      Totally. I was hoping to fit a little more than I was able to but not everything. I do have my lowepro 450 bag that fits everything for large trips but this was not able to fit nearly as much as it should have considering its a 35L bag and my 30L peak design bag fits more.

    • @TerraThink
      @TerraThink 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I believe this is a 25L bag (Peter's older & bigger nomadic bag is 35L). That's probably why your peak design 30L fits more.

    One of the two best videos I have seen. So many unboxing videos, glad you got around to taking a deeper look as to what fits. Couple of comments: Nomatic did send something out to get inserts to make the cubes more rigid like in the kickstarter campaign. I agree they do not look the greatest as is right now. Very good points about not being able to stand up cameras or lenses. I have not received my bag yet and am now super curious how my camera and lenses will fit into the smaller cubes. I am assuming the 70-200 fits laying down in the smaller cube?

    • @TheEngineeringFilmmaker
      @TheEngineeringFilmmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did they send out those inserts to anyone who got the cubes or just anyone who asked?
      The 70-200 will fit in a small cube with maybe a very small item in front of it. The RF lens could fit in there with a camera body probably. But the EF mark iii takes up just about almost the whole small cube.

    This is a great video, the best I have seen yet on this bag. Most of the other videos are unboxing vids but don’t go into a lot of detail. Nice work!
    The kickstarter project for this bag seemed wonky to me from the beginning. Probably some of that can be blamed on covid but in hindsight its seems to me that the kickstarter wasn’t managed very well. A year ago I wanted so much to order the bag but hesitated because I had a strange feeling about the whole ordering process. A month or so ago I actually did order the bag and the ordering process definitely was odd, no option to order cubes or dividers. I cancelled the order. It’s disappointing to see the cubes that appear to be questionable quality. I still think this could be a decent bag but I absolutely love my Shimoda Explore V2 25 bag. It’s simply amazing in so many ways. I liked so much that I bought the 35L for those times I need/want to pack alot of stuff!

    I do really appreciate you giving an honest review. To many people give these fluff reviews and deceive people. With that being said it’s 25L Everyday bag. The set up your putting in to me isn’t a 25L setup. I could be wrong. For me I like the bag cause I’m no professional all my stuff is mirrorless so it works great for me. I can’t fit my A6400 ,ZVE-10, Tamron 11-20, Sony 16-55, and Sony 70-350 or the Sigma 16mm. I will say it’s right with the 70-350 when I put crane M3 in too. I use the with 2 small cubes the way Peter did in a recent video. I get how it would tight for pro’s or full frame setups. Anyway appreciate the video man. Just subscribed!!

    • @TheEngineeringFilmmaker
      @TheEngineeringFilmmaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I could agree! I think the bag size is a little strange with its dimensions is really my main complaint. I can only fit my one camera, one lens, and drone with controller along with minor accessories. If they made it just .5 inches deeper, it could have fit one more item like a spare lens or camera body and maybe it would have been like a 27L instead. Would have preferred that.
      I do love the bag, just wish I could fit one more thing in it with a laptop.

    I’ve been considering this bag to utilize one Profoto B10 and two Profoto A10’s. One EOS R, RF70-200, and RF 24-105, and two nano light stands. What do you think?

    • @TheEngineeringFilmmaker
      @TheEngineeringFilmmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you would be pushing the size limitations of this bag but I cannot say if it will or will not fit everything. I would honestly look into something bigger like the lowepro 450 aw. This PM bag is not really meant for hauling all of your gear, its more of a put a camera, lens, drone, and some extra stuff in it.

  • @yiorc
    @yiorc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Personally i own the Camera Pack which is a travel bag hybrid. I am happy with it, its super comfortable, its the most comfortable bag i ve ever owned. But, being a travel bag it is a bit big for everyday use, even though i use it for exactly that, everyday use.
    When the everyday bag was announced i was a bit on the fence as to whether to get it or not. I did want to go smaller but partially cause of the design and mainly for the price, and because it looked very expensive for what it is kind of put me off. Then i changed my mind even though i still had my doubts about the bag.
    After watching this video i decided that i am definitely not getting it, its the unbiased perspective i needed. Thank you for this video!

    From the very first video they put up, I knew this bag was meant for smaller cameras like Sony bodies But it looks like its quite smaller than what I've expected. I use Canon R line up and I'm too slighting doubting myself to use this bag daily when package arrives. 1 whole year... I hope it was worth the wait

    • @TheEngineeringFilmmaker
      @TheEngineeringFilmmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I am a little disappointed with the bag after waiting a year. In the marketing material they used canon L series EF lenses sitting vertical so I figured my smaller RF lenses could fit but they do not. I think they may have used like a 35mm lens which is not super long to make it look like it can fit more than it can. You really need a specific set of gear to fit in this bag UNLESS you only need: 1 camera, 1 lens, 1 drone. Then its perfect and can fit stuff up top like a mic, filter, batteries, and such.

    Thanks for an honest review. Quite clever is a nice way of saying deceptive marketing. I was sitting on the fence to move over from my very well setup LowePro 450 AWII but I think I’ll hold off. There’s not enough benefit here to justify the swap other than just revealing to my peers that I’m a PM fanboy.

    • @TheEngineeringFilmmaker
      @TheEngineeringFilmmaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean I love PM but not in a way that would allow me to be bias towards a piece of gear!
      I wouldnt say that the lowepro 450aw and this bag are in the same category of bag though. The everyday bag has more feature/functions for "everyday use" where as the lowepro is more for fitting as much gear as possible. I do have the 450 aw version 1 and its amazing when I need to bring a lot of gear in a "smaller" backpack but this everyday bag could have fit just a little more gear if it was like .5 inches deeper.

  • @altonreid9726
    @altonreid9726 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I cannot find a useful "use" for the cubes. I dont see a need to want to take them out since I don't really have 2 types of kits I bring with me. Its a small bag so you can only fit like one kit per arrangement.

    When I was shopping for the Nomatic Peter McKinnon 25L bag someone told me to get the Large Cube and I will be able to fit a lot of gear in there. That was true and false. I was able to get my Sony A7iii with 24-70mm lens attached; my drone and controller and a wide angle lens but it was super snug. Everything was in there really tight using the large cube. So I then took all the dividers out of the cube and used them in a configuration in the bag without using the cube and I was able to comfortably fit my camera with lens attached; DJI Air 2S drone on its side; 4 drone batteries; DJI RC Pro controller; 14mm Rockinon Lens. The loft area will have cables and stuff I can quickly grab out when I am on the plane.

    I was worried about the two smaller cubes but this is really not great for photographers. I wouldn’t have expected the misleading information from Peter McKinnon. So sad as he’s my favorite TH-cam photography influencer. And his first backpack was really great.

    • @TheEngineeringFilmmaker
      @TheEngineeringFilmmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So two things
      1: The backpack will still fit your taller lenses standing up right IF you do not have a laptop in the bag. Theres enough padding for your lens to not be an issue standing up (unless its a tall lens). BUT just keep in mind you still cant put certain things in the zipper pocket as if you do, it may crus them.
      2: I did watch peters video again and his video was not very misleading. he mainly talked about the modularity and features. Even in his video, he did lay his stuff down flat not standing it up. This is an everyday bag not a travel bag but I think it would be a very useful bag for travel since it does have a laptop spot in it. With the laptop inside the bag cannot hold too much.
      The main reason I am disappointed is that its a 35L bag but yet fits less than my Peak design 30L bag.

I just got this bag and love it; all of my canon gear fits in (not at the same time but thats why I got it)..its great for a day trip, and fits my canon body with a lens, an extra lens, filters, laptop/iPad, and drone all just fine without cramming anything in.

I can only fit one drone, controller, lens and camera with maybe a laptop charger and laptop, then the misc items like headphones or other items in the top. My point with the size was that they did not carefully optimize the space in the inside like every other camera bag does. They could have raised the depth by like .5 inches and it would have been the perfect everyday bag.
