I am 48 and have listened to this song since I was 17 (really 13-14) and it still takes me back to the best place! Up on that mountain, us “kids” running around those woods, the adults talking & laughing around the fire, passing to the left, to the right, good people. A time when life was…simpler. I will never let go of those days…it’s all I have now. Those folks sitting around the fire are all gone now, and so its the memories that I still have. May they never leave me. Different generations yet always still a bridge remains.
      Be well Susan Denton…Ian Rhein
Never forgotten “Uncle Michael” you played this tune so well…please take care of Dad. I love you & miss you both very much. A son and nephew still waiting to see you both.

As a teen I grew up in Jax watching All these guys from the beginning and their music has been a tremendous influence on my life. Later in life this is the song I sang to both my kids as their lullaby, every night to put them to sleep. Today I sing it to my grandson and he nods out peacefully responding the same way my kids did! It's a beautiful song and an intricate part of our lives!

Then the Voting Rights Act in 1965, the Fair Housing Act in 1967 etc. Although school segregation was outlawed by the Warren Court In 1954 in the Case Brown vs. Board of Education, although it still exists in some areas.

@@randysmith7652 yes it was Gregg who went out brought Duane his meds in a glass coriciden bottle. Duane dumped out the meds and put the bottle on his left ring finger and played along with "Statesboro Blues" He called Gregg a short time later on and told Gregg to get over here I gotta show you this!. Gregg walks in, Duane is playing slide and Gregg realized how natural he was picking it up as quick as he did. Duane had a great ear for music, he got right on that tune which became their signature tune. Nobody played Statesboro blues wit such power and grace as the ABB

Duane had just left rehab with plans to add a Tower of Power horn section. He wanted to record a tribute album to Coltrane and Miles. Duane was still getting better. He was starting to write songs and he had a voice as good as his brother. He would have gone on to cement his ownership of GOAT and the most important session guitarist in any style.

Oh my word, what does it mean?
Is it love or is it me
That makes me change so suddenly?
    Looking out, feeling free.
Sit here lying in my bed,
Wondering what it was I'd said
That made me think I'd lost my head,
When I knew I lost my heart instead.
Won't you please read my signs, be a gypsy.
Tell me what I hope to find deep within me.
Because you can find my mind, please be with me.
Of all the better things I've heard,
Loving you has made the words
And all the rest seem so absurd,
Cause in the end it all comes out, I'm sure.
Won't you please read my signs, be a gypsy.

Saw a lot of great players as way back as the late sixties. Probably until the day I die, Duane will ALWAYS be my favorite. His chops, feel and intensity to this day are unmatched.
Hearing this always brings a tear to my eye, knowing he was gone way too soon. Can't give enough thanks for today's media being able to keep him alive, in some small way.

What a great song! Never heard Duane's interpretation of it, but played the grooves out of Clapton's. Clapton was awed by Duane more than any player he ever knew, and for good reason. What a nice tribute to Duane that Clapton recorded this song almost note by note. With all due respect to Eric, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Richie Blackmore and David Gilmour, and all the greats, my favorite guitarists are Jimi, Duane and Johnny Winter.

I miss him every day. But I'm reminded of him every day because I share middle names with him. My daddy gave me his middle name, Duane, to pay homage to his favorite band and favorite guitarist of all time. I couldn't be prouder to be named after the great Skydog ❤️❤️❤️
Duane is also the sole reason I started learning to play guitar. So every time I play, I think about him. He's had such a huge impact on my life. And I was born almost 10 yrs after he passed away, Sept '81. 9 years and 11 months later, actually.
Now that I've grown up and had my own child, I see just how short 10 years really is. My daughter was born 8 years ago. So Duane had barely been gone when I was born. Just 10 years prior. Really puts things into perspective. It's now been almost 50 yrs since he passed away. And his legacy is now deeply cemented in Rock & Roll history. Especially Southern Rock, a genre in which the Allman Brothers had a huge hand in creating.
Today, ABB had firmly established their place in history and I know Duane was watching them, proud as ever of his vision and what he created...one of the best bands to ever grace a stage and likely THE BEST live band to ever play. 😎❤️👍
