    There should be a limit on how many consecutive times one can listen to this version. After three, you are bordering on a state of despair that renders one useless for the remainder of the day.

      I agree, somebody breaks up with you, or you break up with someone, not necessarily because you don't love them, but because you feel the relationship is not going anywhere. I speak from personal experience and the line "the dawn don't rescue me" rings true, you get up in the morning thinking things will get better, and you realize it is not getting better. Totally identify with his song. Rick pours all his emotions into it, such heatache, such perfection

    Although Hudson is physically frail - he has reportedly been living in an assisted care facility since the death of his wife, Maud, in 2022 Garth is the sole survivor of The Band, I'm 70 and can only wish to live as long as Garth. They were a truly amazing band so special and light years ahead of their contemporaries.

    • @johntechwriter
      @johntechwriter 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Maybe it’s Garth’s memories that keep him going. A guy who might have ended as a music teacher in small town Ontario, instead was given the gift of sharing his instrumental legacy with the world. Without Garth, The Band would not have been.

      After Levon passed, my brother and I trekked to Woodstock to to show his daughter was giving at The Barn. An intimate musical performance I will never forget, bringing me to tears. Not a dry eye in the place. What a great band.

    I cannot describe my sadness on the loss of Robbie Robertson- “and the rains fall down on my door- and the dawn don’t rescue me no more.” I’ve followed The Band for decades and have the clearest memories of listening to The Last Waltz over and over and over. These losses of great musicians are hitting me harder and harder and harder. Thank you Robbie.

      love to you, Deborah.....I get it...and as I came here to watch Robbie.....then you see Rick and Levon....and then Garth comes out on the sax...the only one left. The music matters.

    • @DaveMorrisonMusic
      @DaveMorrisonMusic ปีที่แล้ว +31

      We made a tactical error, Deborah. We attached deeply to literally hundreds of musicians that were ten years or so older than us, and now they are dying almost daily. And the ones who wrote the insightful songs, and the challenging songs - the songs that pushed us into becoming deeper ... those are the ones, whose passing hits us the hardest. I think that, when Dylan dies, the country will just shut down for a week.

      I listen to this one so much. This is my favorite song in The Last Waltz. Rick's vocals are crushing. Robbie's magical right hand shimmy shake during the solo. Garth on smooth sax. Sighhhhh. They are so young and beautiful and talented here. Time Flies. Rest well, Robbie. You've got some good musicians to hang with on the other side. Save me a good seat at the show.

    My first wife split after six years of marriage. She returned about four months later. I heard this tune in my apartment, from a Band album, and played it for her upon her return. She sat and listened with no emotion whatsoever. That's when I knew it was over. I moved forward and am with the love of my life after 36 years. A truly great tune and it played an important role in my life! Thank you Robbie and the Band for providing such beautiful music for a generation and more!!

      In late 1976, my partner moved to another city, about 1,000 miles away. in the months before I was able to join her there, I bought The Best of The Band on Cassette, and discovered this song. When I came to the verse "Well, I love you so much that it's all I can do to keep myself from telling you that I never felt so alone before," it broke me up, I was a mess, but it sustained me till I joined her. I already knew some of The Band's work, and had the NME review of the concert, and went to the Australian Premier of the movie. After 15 or 16 times I lost count of the number of times I saw it, and now have all of their studio work and live work, including their time with Dylan. My favourite band of all time.

      That scar under Rick’s right eye? I have one just like it. It was created as I was being born. I was born breach, meaning the doctor had to reach in with his forceps and grab me by the head to get me out.

    Robbie's playing amazed and mystified other guitarists when he was stll a teenager with the Hawks. This a rare taste of that fire. Rick steps right up here. We get to hear Levon's voice as a harmony - we can't really hear Richard's but we can feel it. ...And then Garth tops it all off for us. What a band.

    Just sent this to my bestest lover of 40 years ago... we are actually thinking of reuniting... this may well do it. Ric's "Well I love you so much" at 3:45 are to me the lovingest 6 words in all of rock. As well as the immaculate playing and harmonies by all. And then Garth suddenly descends from Heaven with his sax. Never fails to tear me up. Only one wish - that they had done one more chorus again at the end. But that's OK - I can push Replay again. And again. This is a miracle 💓
