man cant help but think this is trent's most passionate song, i think in part due to how masterfully the lyrics are crafted near the end in contrast with the start of the song. towards the end, the sentence structure just starts breaking down and turns into fragmented screams. how i wish i could write something 5% as eloquent.. bravo. this is my favorite nin song and i much prefer the original arrangement over the newer more acapella live version. perhaps the original strains the vocal chords more
It only sounded this menacing on this tour. There’s a synth part that starts at :50 that post 2000 live shows didn’t have and the song just doesn’t hit the same without it.
When I’m listening to the song at home I prefer the original arrangement but the new version was clearly designed for a live setting because when everything comes in all at once, it hits hard
Whats more crazy is that most bands only have a handful of great songs, not an entire album full of greatness let alone Fragile double disc epicness. Every Track from start to finish all perfectly synced. I was 13 when i first heard this album and my older brother never got it back :) Still to this day It puts most albums to shame.
Best live performance of this song I've seen. Despite the video quality, the sound captures the spirit of the album better than the more recent covers. The guitars are brutally distorted as they were on The Fragile. I'd love to see the actual DVD of this! Thanks for posting.
Hey there, I thought it was pretty awesome to find this on youtube. I still have the masters from it somewhere. That took me the better part of 6 months to make, collecting all the bootleg footage, then sync'ing it up to the best sound board copies I could find at the time. Also did a bit of remixing on them. Cheers Scott Fitzpatrick / Silent Narcotic.
I seen this show twice in a 4 day span once at the Gorge in George Washington followed up by a second show in Spokane.... probly the most memorable set of shows I've ever seen....I mean not every day your gonna get APC (original line up)as a under card band .... hell i have a broken keyboard key.from the Spokane show its priceless to me ...
I was there at Brixton Academy back in the day and they opened with this song. My friend was so smashed in there that he nearly missed the whole concert! This was a great concert
All of NINs albums openers can translate amazingly into a live set opener, but this is definately my favourite for it. That said, I prefer the way they've been playing it on the latest tour, the start of its a bit different, more toned down.
I saw them on this tour in Hartford Conn. I always thought it was weird they performed this song behind a curtain at that show. It was the opening song.
This is compiled from many live shows all within one audio track. The entire Fragile DVD is set up that way, and it's most obvious on the guitarist since his hair changes from city to city...
3:55 Jesus fucking fuck that was intense. That shit made my hair stand on end. Meanwhile, my dumb ass was still a freshman in high school not even knowing who the fk NIN even was at the time. Sigh..
@@aa-th2vj plus, I've heard several recordings of this song live in the fragility era and Trent sings parts live in different ways and melodies than SD on the album, but here the vocals match up almost exactly with the album
@steverzilly, Fuck yes and amen. Regarding it's placement on the album, it sets up the central tonic theme for The Fragile as a whole unlike any other work I can recall or care about.

***** More likely a Parker...some Parkers have ghost piezo pickups that emulate acoustic tones, then for the heavier verse he switches to the Les Paul.

It is my new favorite 🤩
I don’t know how Ive liomed over all these years
BadASS!!!
What an opener.

That and Mr Self Destruct. Best opening tracks ever...
I can see the dislike for video quality, but god this song is out of control
I agree this performance is fucking insane!
But sound quality awesome
This audio quality is better than 99% of live videos from the last few years on youtube are
I love it. its like watching a VHS.
The show was amazing!
The fragile album is a masterpiece.
this song saved my life
I so wish i could have seen them during Fragility.
I like the new intro too, but this one is raw, and would blow my socks off if it started a show.
All these bands that try to rip-off NIN and Manson fail because they miss all the things that actually made them great and memorable
Whats more crazy is that most bands only have a handful of great songs, not an entire album full of greatness let alone Fragile double disc epicness. it's crazy, they open with this song, most bands don't even have a song this good to close with
Best live performance of this song I've seen. Despite the video quality, the sound captures the spirit of the album better than the more recent covers. The guitars are brutally distorted as they were on The Fragile. I'd love to see the actual DVD of this! Thanks for posting.

I think the audio from this is from Brixton Academy, if I remember correctly
awesome song from a great band! this was NIN in their prime.
I so wish that they would perform the studio intro to this song again, the new one is good but the original is better.
Such an insane performance!
A true master of dynamics. It's damn beautiful
The real guy that shaped real music fo 30years. We all tore off this guys genius
best live version ever
one of my best song ever
THIS SONG SLAYS THE WORLD.
This song and reptile are my favorite NIN songs. :D
Old school bootleg quality. Awesome!
Phenomenal performance, just love this song so much!!
my local rock station is gay they only play edited version of Closer and Head Like a Hole.
The EliHbk Ik it’s crazy. I thought the word gay was invented in 2017
Fuck that IS gay
Yes, it's my favorite album, with the Downward Spiral as a close second.
anyone went to the first london brixton gig back in march? they started off with somewhat damaged - that was a unforgettable mental trip!!!
Thanks for sharing. Fragility tour was the best, followed them from NC, SC,GA, LA, TX. WHERE THE FUCK WERE YOU????!!
whoah trent`s voice is great here :)

This song has so much energy! I hope they play it when i see them in Tulsa in November.
THE NAILS ARE BACK!!!!
Aww you cut off the part where they mess up. Thing is, when they messed it up it REALLY fit the song and made it better
Best!
I think they used a backing track here. Still sounds amazing.
Too Fucked Up to Care Anymore!!!!
THOSE ARE MY FAVS TOO!!!!
God, this is mezmorizing.
Absolutely.
WOOT!
Incredible

the wall of fucking guitars

Sounds like someone tried to mash this up with the album version tbh.
it does doesn't it? the little ukulele picking or whatever doesn't exactly sound proportionate to the other live sounds
@@aa-th2vj plus, I've heard several recordings of this song live in the fragility era and Trent sings parts live in different ways and melodies than SD on the album, but here the vocals match up almost exactly with the album

Finck is back!!!
The sound quality is awesome is there anyway I can download this? I'm been waiting years to get this version of Somewhat Damaged (live).
@steverzilly, Fuck yes and amen. Regarding it's placement on the album, it sets up the central tonic theme for The Fragile as a whole unlike any other work I can recall or care about.
This is so heavy..really heavy.
The ending is just... divine.
Where the fuck were you?
NIN old school lives always remind of a David Fincher movie. They just had that gloomy and violent look to them.
some of NIN's best songs aren't played on the radio.
fuck i love this song.
anybody else notice that trent wears a lot of longsleeve shirts in the fragile era??
gee, wonder why. ask mister H.

cool, intro sounds good, fucking awesome
this SD version is from 1999, btw.
RAW
i could not agree more, i had to listen to some of this after listening to this new "NIN" song Everything...... it was.... it felt wrong.
same here

@Brendo2345
So very True!
totally fuckin badass
adónde está el registro entero de este concierto? no solo de está canción?
i didnt know he played guitar during this song
don't know what i would give to see this now.... this performance is better than all the shitty pseudo-industrial band of today
@socialbenthos same here my first nin album
Very clever with the time signatures and stuff. I like it, but I'm guessing that the average bear hasn't paid much attention to the lyrics.

Too fucked up to care anymore...
not played in kansas city in 06. But that was ok, i got loaded anyway.
oigan para los que entienden español, porque dejaron de tocar en vivo actualmente???
¿A que te refieres con dejaron de tocar en vivo? NIN esta de gira actualmente y esta canción fue la segunda en sonar en su visita a México.
still good though
@StinkyGreenBud well really he is the whole band just not live
nah, aaron is the man ;)
why he using two guitars?? , the first one was acoustic???
yup :)
oohhh the first one is that guitar intro oh thanks
***** No problem. I`m not a guitar expert but this one doesn`t look like a typical acoustic to me :D So maybe the tuning was different.
***** More likely a Parker...some Parkers have ghost piezo pickups that emulate acoustic tones, then for the heavier verse he switches to the Les Paul.
Wow that's one angry man.
The walking dead
