    My dad wore the original Z-14. I had a bottle of the reformulation some years ago and it barely evoked sense memories, so I gave it away. Found a vintage bottle two years ago and LOVING IT! Incidentally, as a fall evening scent, it leaves a nice trail and easily generates compliments. Only the vintage on this one is my rec.

    When I was in School in the early 80's ... Yeah I'm old ... Z14, Drakkar Noir, and Polo Green were da Shit. Those were the Trifecta of scents in high school.

    Coincidentally I'm wearing a 2017 version of it today.
    I love the smell.
    I'm into my ninth hour of having three sprays on, I'm working in a foundry and I'm still picking up strong whiffs of it.

    I haven't tried the vintage versions, but both the modern editions of Z-14 and 1-12 are appreciated in my collection. Btw, I just scored a good full 50ml bottle of By for Men by Dolce & Gabbana in the original box for......$10. I'M STOKED!!

    BTW that "weird" bottle shape turns out to be very easy to hold on to even in a bathroom where hands can get a little wet sometimes. It's odd looking but quite ergonomic.

      .....HALSTON....was THE MAN....EVERYTHING he did was NEXT LEVEL when it came to his scents....the BOTTLE was designed by his dear friend ELSA PERETTI....the factories were very PERPLEXED....so were the SUITS at the fragrance company who bankrolled the scents....they tried to talk him out of the then WEIRD DESIGN...they wanted him to use the staid old boring shapes....but he PUNKED EVERYONE by laying down HIS OWN MONEY TO HAVE THE BOTTLES MADE....ONE HUNDRED GRAND it has been rumored....as you can see he got his way and of course the design and the scents went THROUGH THE ROOF in sales...he did the same treatment for his women's scents too....if you NOTICE....his NAME is NOT EVEN ON THE BOTTLE...that caused a SCANDAL TOO...he was a very ....smile....GRAND HOMOSEXUAL and a lot of straight white men just were NOT READY for someone who was OUT...and PROUD ABOUT IT AT THAT LEVEL... and he had NO problems explaining WHY he did everything....however he exposed a lot of the battles between TRUE VISIONARY CREATIVES with TASTE...and the BUSINESS end of it...and the EXECUTIVES that COULD NOT STAND HIM...they STILL have a very bitter taste in their mouths about him...he kept PUNKING THEM...he recommended ELSA...to TIFFANY'S....and she created EXQUISITE JEWELRY til her recent DEATH......as for HALSTON...unfortunately he died of complications from HIV/AIDS....but for about 15 good years...he was a ROCKSTAR in the world of FASHION....ADVERTISING...and MARKETING...he was the 1st AMERICAN FASHION DESIGNER AS CELEBRITY...on par with every other celebrity...everyone in the world of HAUTE COUTURE....ACKNOWLEDGED HIM ....HE....was the MAN...his clothes for a very long time were so expensive that the scents were the ONLY AFFORDABLE THING HE SOLD...so it all FLEW off the shelves and he really didn't do MENSWEAR so we ATE his SCENTS UP...he was a CULTURAL ICON...

      @@corneliuswashington-gp1we This would have read much better without the ridiculous amount of elipses and capital letters. Be more subtle. Halston was loud through subtlety. Be like Halston.

    Thanks again for the Great Review! This fragrance definitely has a nostalgic place in my heart, as it was one of the few colognes my father wore (along with Halston 1-12) . My father was a "man's man" and really didn't collect a boat load of fragrances ( I think he had a large bottle of Tabac and possibly Brut). The only one I didn't like was Aqua Velva Ice Blue (yuk). This fragrance is unique in the way it conveys the notes, very much so from the other powerhouse 70's fragrances, yet still delivers a truly masculine experience. The cinnamon is key yet this doesn't go oriental, it is just perfectly blended with the other masculine notes in the fragrance. Bottom line: for the money this is a great fragrance, It won't be confused with anything else out there and the bottle is really cool. Again, thanks for these reviews!

    I really like this scent , it's one of my two classic cheap go to spiced fragrances . Drakkar is the other. Z-14 smells like cinnamon toothpicks with leather and moss to me. The rest of the notes only show up if you let a bottle age for months after opening . Ck one lotion and z-14 play well together . But it could last longer and be stronger so less is needed for a day.

    i just bought a bottle today made by french fragrances miami, apparently that means its pre 2001 (likely 90s) which is when they went to elizabeth arden EA who have a bad reputation for ruining stuff lol. cant wait to get it. great video dude

    This was great. Thanks - I haven’t tried the vintage, but I have tried TF Italian Cypress & it reminded me a lot of the current Z - 14 formulation but richer and heavier. Would love to see then & now on Halston 1-12.

    I was able to get my hands on a NOW discontinued Tom Ford fragrance called Italian Cypress. I got it in, sprayed it and I’m like bro, this is z-14 straight up lmao
    So u essentially have a $300+ fragrance that’s discontinued on the cheap and came out decades prior
    Have good weekend big K

    The current formulation is a beast on my skin. On my skin it smells, like a cinnamon, Coca-Cola, soapy scent. I love it!!!

  • @danielwebster7030
    @danielwebster7030 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The current is nice, more zesty and lemony. Very heavy cinnamon bomb. The vintage is much nicer, more depth, very complex and definitely longer lasting. The vintage is preferable. But, the current is nice to use everyday at an office.

    Great video! Here in the UK Halston z-14 was never that well known compared to the other classic powerhouses. I’ve also got JEff Gordon sponsor version as well. I’ve never tried the current but you are very positive about it. The really deep vintages are just not available here sadly.

    Oh the memories, such a fantastic 80's banger PD. I still have a 1/4 bottle of the OG.
    Yes the Gordon version is pretty close. Another close one you can still find with real oakmoss is Valetino's Vendetta, which was probably made as a copy of Z-14.
    M. Micallef's Desirtoxic, TF Italian Cypress, Roja Apex, and Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb have many similar notes.

    If you want the really good old juice buy the “natural spray” as that’s variety is an 80’s bottle. I have both z-12 and z14 from the eighties. Both are fantastic fragrances.

    If you've never experienced the original you'll like this reformulation. If you have, you'll likely be disappointed. To me, the reformulation is a tease. It evokes memories of what I used to have, and makes me wish I still had my bottle of original. It doesn't smell bad, but like so many things...it's just not as good as the original.

  • @Justin_theTsar
    @Justin_theTsar ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey kellan, that just Jeff Gordon one is more like mod range. It had been reformulated already. Oakmoss was band it was just reduced to only able to use 1%. If it says treemoss that means it's 1% oakmoss and the rest is treemoss. The 80s version is a lot darker then the Jeff Gordon one. Surprisingly the 80s version is even darker than the 70s version. But that 2005 bottle of still amazing.

    Another classic from the 70/80s. I got this one as well. Why is it that when I go to Macy's or Dilliards to check out colognes that all the new stuff doesn't come close to the Polos, Drakars, Halstons, Obsessions, Fahrenheit's etc. of the past. Word is that Polo Green deodorant is possibly being discontinued. Not sure if this is true and certainly hope Ralph doesn't allow this to happen.

    There's actually a NEWER formulation than the "new" formulation that you're reviewing here. I believe they began producing it in 2022 (I have two boxes, one from 2022 and one from 2023). It smells MUCH closer to the vintage. You can tell by the batch code on the bottom of the boxes and the slightly different ingredient list.

    The modern stuff is but a ghost of the real juice.
    It's a wonder that some House hasn't cloned it yet.

    ....now that the concerts and operas and musicals are back i am really enjoying going out to all of them so i am wearing my evening clothes....and naturally i am reaching back to the tried and true scents that work with the clothes and the moods...i wore Z/14 when it 1st came out and we all wore ANYTHING HALSTON MADE....and his clothes were so PRICY that his SCENTS were FLYING OFF THE SHELVES....it was ONE of the FEW THINGS BY HIM THAT PEOPLE COULD AFFORD...also he really was not THAT interested in designing things for MEN...so we JUMPED on his scents...i JUST bought a bottle from the DRUG STORE after i saw your review...and i was AFRAID that i was going to be DISAPPOINTED....THANK GOD I AM NOT.......i can smell the difference between the old and new versions but i am quite happy with the new version....i have also begun a new habit of blending essential oils with my scents lately because i work around them on a weekly basis...and i have discovered if you REALLY want to smell DANGEROUS...put the scent on 1st....then dab a TINY bit of CLOVE OIL with it....i am thinking on your chest...i tried it last night and i am FEELING IT....and it lasted quite a bit...ORANGE OIL IS NEXT....THANKS FOR THE REVIEW....
