- Another tribute to ICS Vortex who was in Dimmu Borgir the soul of the clean voices of the band, which along the career in Dimmu Borgir, the real fans of the band who knows the earlies years 1999, he put the essential power to do this style into The Symphonic Black Metal vocals...!!! ICS Vortex, you will never be replaced in noway...!!! you will be the one in Dimmu Borgir! The melancholy voice that it sounds together the Keyboard's Mustis which both sounds come from somewhere of the Hell or maybe from a Hellish Heaven?

as we all know - without mustis and vortex dimmu borgir is not the same band any more...my favorite part where vortex sing is in kings of carnival creation - live from dvd version...simply flawless and 100% better than studio version... \m/
Most of the time, Dimmu's live performance's are better then the recorded versions! It really tells you how unique Dimmu Borgir is.

Imagine being at a Dimmu Borgir show, at lets say at a festival like Wacken.
You know them pretty vaguely, but all you know is that they are this panda metal band from Norway..
You take a listen just to have fun with it and, then.. ... this 6.5 foot tall, blond haired viking starts to sing and suddenly the experience turnes into light from heaven.. All your dreams comes true and all your wishes are granted. You don't really know what happened and what is going on around you, all you know that in this moment in time. This singular moment in your existence, you don't feel anything but pure happiness. You are home. You are in a state of bliss. Nothing matters to you anymore. You are whole.
Yeah, these days you just see Dimmu Borgir to laugh at their ridiculous outfits.
I have this really large poster from 2001 that is roughly 3ft by 6ft that I purchased while Dimmu was on their Puritanical tour in the States. After the show, I got every member to sign this massive poster, including Vortex. To this day, its one of my prized possessions. I love this poster, and I'll never forget meeting the band in Los Angeles after the show to have them sign it. Vortex is an absolute gem, and I miss the old school Dimmu days.
One story I love to share is when I met the band that night, I spoke with the lead singer Shagrath (Stian) and when we were talking, some drunk lady came up to him and was wanting to give him a hug and take a picture. He respectfully declined the hug and cited that he has a significant other (at the time) and did not want to betray her trust. As a young man at the time, I was thoroughly impressed by his loyalty. He took pictures with women (because they were fans) but he would not hug them or put his arm around them because he felt it was inappropriate. Ever since then I've had tremendous respect for Shagrath.

I was lucky enough to see Dimmu Borgir for the first (and only) time back in Aug of 2008 in Toronto, ON when they were out on Danzig's "Blackest of the Black" Tour. Little did I know that would be the ONLY time that I would ever get to see Mustis (and especially, VORTEX!!) in the line up. I believe both Mustis and Vortex went hand-in-hand & complemented each other's abilities and Dimmu Borgir lost nearly half of their band when they made the suicidal mistake of losing those two musical geniuses.
He's so versatile in making these huge leaps between notes

Dude this man has one of the best fucking voices... I love his vocals. Seriously one of my favorite parts of Dimmu, and Mustis is simply amazing too. The band is sick in general, so many skilled musicians. It's so fucking stupid they parted ways with these guys.
I truly believe Vortex is the best singer in metal.

Best Dimmu Borgir lineup was the Spiritual Black Dimensions one. The guys that recorded that album, including Astennu on guitar. His solos were amazing and Galder cannot reproduce them live. Not even close. Best DB album for me.

The final one (with slow vibrato) is so mesmerizing! Everytime brings me goosepumps all over my back, legs and arms. This must be how sirens would sing to hypnotize sailors.

His sounding in Dimmu Borgir requires some effects. Little bit of delay and reverb - this gives him his angelic sounding. Nothing criminal. And if you enjoyed his parts in DB and wish to hear more if him - check out Arcturus, Borknagar, Lamented souls and his solo project - some decent music. Especially Borknagar

My favourite vocalist ever! I nearly fainted meeting him when he toured with Arcturus here in Aus a few years ago.
Dimmu Borgir will never be the same without ICS and Mustis. Going by all the years they had both of them, and even Abra to In Sorte, and it just cant even compare IMO.

I know Dimmu Borgir since a half year, and loved the whole band at the first time I heared her,
especially Vortex was my favourite member of the band, but as soon as I found out that he is no longer in the band since 2009, I was really sad that I won't see this epic guy live with Dimmu Borgir in all her and his epicness...

Very Cool Video Juan! I'd like to know the song titles to the last two or three songs as I didn't immediately recognize them. But, you left out one of his first and to me, maybe his most awesome clean vocals in the song Reptile. It was the reason I started listening to Dimmu in 2000 and have seen them 4 times and I live in Dallas Texas. Thanks again!

Cada vez que escucho la voz de Vortex en esa cancion y en la mayoria, es como ser teletransportado a otra dimension, un mundo pagano, donde el hombre es libre y uno con la naturaleza. La voz de Vortex es un viaje celestial, Dimmu no es ni sera lo mismo que cuando Vortex estaba en el.
Lets hope they one day can sort out their differences. Vortex and Mustis where great atributes for the band. I loved the clean vocals and mustis classical influences.
But we also have to be honest the brains behind the music is Shagrath and Silenoz. the true core of Dimmu. And the new album is definitly great again. Just different.
