The truth = I've been acting (and in the west end) long before Mcfly even existed, I'm from a working class family in a dodgy bit of greater london whose parents had to sell copies of yellow pages door to door in order to afford a birthday party for my brother, I find several reasons to hate myself on a daily basis and I actually agree that my dress sense is pretty odd! There's fair criticism and then there's Guru gossip. I've always felt that if someone has something actually constructive to say, saying it to you in a comment section shouldn't be an issue. If someone wants to bitch about you without any repercussions, well...that's why Guru Gossip was invented. The people on there KNOW they're being intentionally mean and hurtful. If they didn't and were respectful with their negative opinions, they'd have no qualms saying it where you could see it. Which means, we should really make an effort not to go looking for sites like GG because if they thought what they were saying was right and justified, they wouldn't be hiding it on a shady little corner of the internet. I really struggled with Guru Gossip for a long time because I thought it was full of people who just didn't understand or they had the wrong information and had come to wrong conclusions about me so I desperately felt a need to explain. That's not what it is. No matter how much you explain, even if you push fact after fact under their noses proving them wrong, if someone wants to hate you as a way of pushing the pressure and attention off of themselves, they will. Don't fret, darling heart.

I think lots of it comes down to an obsessive form of jealousy over people that a lot of the time the shit talkers are big fans of but struggle to actually express that, and instead resort to petty personal criticisms that are completely unsubstantiated.

People leap on you if you say you didn't enjoy a video for x and y reason, and brand you a hater, and there conversation is ended. TH-cam is a media, and every media is criticised and reviewed, but a lot of fans won't let that happen...

Lately i've been going through a shit storm on TH-cam and it seems a LOT of negativity seeped its way into my channel community and that negativity has seriously been affecting me these past few months (even though i try to pretend it doesn't). For some reason, seeing that another youtuber (one as amazing and sweet and genuine as yourself) has also gotten backlash and it bothered you to some degree, that made me feel not so alone in the matter. Also you handled it all so much better than I have and it inspired me. So anyways, thank you for this! And of course i must add that you are one of the most authentic TH-camrs around, anyone who thinks you are putting on a performance is clearly delusional x

No one on GG is under the assumption that TH-camrs will never see their posts, lmao. Like you said, TH-camrs know about these websites and the people who post on these websites are aware of this. They aren't always for blind hate - these forums exist so that everyone's voice is heard, even if it's a negative opinion or constructive criticism (which is often poorly received on YT). A lot of TH-camrs have obsessive fans who refuse to hear when their favourite creator is called out on their bullshit on TH-cam/Twitter/Instagram, so a lot of people choose to bring their discussions to other websites. Some of it is just straight up hate, but usually viewers are just disappointed in their favourite creators for selling out or whatever.

I guess I'm not surprised such forums exist. I've never been to one, and I doubt I ever will because I'm the sort of person that if I have something to say, I'll just say it to that person directly. Personally, I've loved your talking videos so far, and I'm not remotely tired of hearing the sound of your voice yet. You have a lovely voice. You're young, and growing, and figuring out still who you want to be in the world. That's beautiful. Perhaps for younger viewers, they think of you as an adult who should already have it all sorted out, but from my perspective you're still so young and it's completely normal what you're going through ... except for the fact that you're going through it online. My generation had the luxury of getting through those formative teen and early adult years in private because no online world existed yet. The only people who saw our attempts were family and friends (unless you really screwed up and made the papers), and loved ones are naturally more forgiving than strangers would be when you need time to figure it all out and get things right. (I make it sound like I've gotten my life all sorted out, but honestly humans keep growing their whole lives and as soon as you figure out one thing, here's three more things you need to incorporate into your life somehow. Fun.) I'm glad you're not taking those comments to heart. You're a sweet but complex person, and it's likely you'll be misunderstood by those who just want this one thing or that one thing from you. That part about how the more you share, the more hate you get is so true. I shared too much during fiveawesomegirls and people said terrible things that hit way too close to home. Now that I've moved my focus from my own life to my thoughts on various topics and handmade projects on my own channel, I get a lot less hate and the complaints I do receive don't hurt me quite as much. I recently got the same comment about not being genuine because I come off as too happy, but I also got plenty of comments saying that I was miserable to watch and complained too much back when I wasn't focusing as much on the positives when choosing what to make for my content. So really, I learned the same thing you did - not everyone is going to like me and I shouldn't be changing who I am and what I create because someone who doesn't even like me was mean about it. And it's pretty amusing to hear from a total stranger about my actual offline personality. I didn't know that about myself. I'm glad you spoke up about how different you imagine I must be. Really, I need to like what I'm making or I won't want to make it anymore. And when I am sad, I want to make a video about something happy because it cheers me up. Because I enjoy making videos about things that make me smile. We all make choices about what to focus on in our lives and I've worked very hard to overcome my natural inclination towards pessimism. Of course I'm not happy 24/7. But that doesn't mean you aren't seeing the real me when I choose to make a video about something that does make me happy. Thanks for talking about this! oh man the assumptions people have made about my life based on my videos is WILD. blows my mind how much people invent this horrible shit about me based on tiny insignificant things in videos. i just dont get it. i try to be transparent to a degree but you're totally right, they only see a portion of my life. i like to think that im sharing vulnerable parts of myself to people who can relate, and i do think they know me on some level because of that, but it's really not like knowing me in real life. idk. it's trippy.

It's nice to see someone who is so real. A lot of youtubers really make themselves so heightened - all energy and exaggerated personalities. Honestly you're a very chill person and your videos are calming - I can watch them at 2am without wanting to tear my face off.
No one on GG is under the assumption that TH-camrs will never see their posts, lmao. Like you said, TH-camrs know about these websites and the people who post on these websites are aware of this. They aren't always for blind hate - these forums exist so that everyone's voice is heard, even if it's a negative opinion or constructive criticism (which is often poorly received on YT). A lot of TH-camrs have obsessive fans who refuse to hear when their favourite creator is called out on their bullshit on TH-cam/Twitter/Instagram, so a lot of people choose to bring their discussions to other websites. Some of it is just straight up hate, but usually viewers are just disappointed in their favourite creators for selling out or whatever.

Since the new year, I have been loving the concept of mindfulness and being able to have that control over your emotions and actions. Lucy has definitely had an impact on my thoughts and has changed my perspective on people, society and life in general. And I thank her for that and I will be eternally grateful for that.

I love your content. It was actually your alcohol video that got me interested in your channel. In the beginning of the video you explain that you couldn't find very much of this kind of discussion on TH-cam so you felt the need to share your experiences- this is when I knew I liked you. It is brave and generous for you to make your self vulnerable to help other people. It really sucks that other people take advantage of people's vulnerabilities.

I just recently started watching your videos, but I personally subscribed because I loved your open and honest vulnerability on your channel. I definitely love your other content as well, but your personal vlogs are what brought me in. I guess I'm not surprised such forums exist. I've never been to one, and I doubt I ever will because I'm the sort of person that if I have something to say, I'll just say it to that person directly. Personally, I've loved your talking videos so far, and I'm not remotely tired of hearing the sound of your voice yet. You have a lovely voice. You're young, and growing, and figuring out still who you want to be in the world. That's beautiful. Perhaps for younger viewers, they think of you as an adult who should already have it all sorted out, but from my perspective you're still so young and it's completely normal what you're going through ... except for the fact that you're going through it online.
My generation had the luxury of getting through those formative teen and early adult years in private because no online world existed yet. The only people who saw our attempts were family and friends (unless you really screwed up and made the papers), and loved ones are naturally more forgiving than strangers would be when you need time to figure it all out and get things right. (I make it sound like I've gotten my life all sorted out, but honestly humans keep growing their whole lives and as soon as you figure out one thing, here's three more things you need to incorporate into your life somehow. Fun.)

That part about how the more you share, the more hate you get is so true. I shared too much during fiveawesomegirls and people said terrible things that hit way too close to home. Now that I've moved my focus from my own life to my thoughts on various topics and handmade projects on my own channel, I get a lot less hate and the complaints I do receive don't hurt me quite as much.
I recently got the same comment about not being genuine because I come off as too happy, but I also got plenty of comments saying that I was miserable to watch and complained too much back when I wasn't focusing as much on the positives when choosing what to make for my content. So really, I learned the same thing you did - not everyone is going to like me and I shouldn't be changing who I am and what I create because someone who doesn't even like me was mean about it. And it's pretty amusing to hear from a total stranger about my actual offline personality. I didn't know that about myself. I'm glad you spoke up about how different you imagine I must be.
Really, I need to like what I'm making or I won't want to make it anymore. And when I am sad, I want to make a video about something happy because it cheers me up. Because I enjoy making videos about things that make me smile. We all make choices about what to focus on in our lives and I've worked very hard to overcome my natural inclination towards pessimism. Of course I'm not happy 24/7. But that doesn't mean you aren't seeing the real me when I choose to make a video about something that does make me happy.
