    Based on your previous video about the A7rII I bought one a few months back. I can now try out these settings and get more battery life! The A7RII is a beast and takes amazing photos, I'm very happy with your recommendation and love my A7RII. Great info and video!

      So glad you are enjoying the Rii, I love mine and it works great. These tips help some but ultimately a few batteries in your pocket is still the best thing.

    Thank you. I can confirm now that these tips actually helps. Today I was shooting for 4 hours and I only depleted one battery. Before that I was out after a hour or so.

    another great video sir...ive been a mobilel photographer for years and I seen the video you did on the A7R2 and knew that would be my first full frame mirrorless camera...so I went to Best Buy and they had it for 1200...the guy working said its a very old camera but can still hold up because it was really ahead if its time when it released...I bought the 24-105 G f4 oss Sony lens and a few days later bought the nifty 50mm Sony for 200 bucks and seriously both these lenses are unreal on this camera..the 105 is great and should be for 1300 but that 200 50mm is wicked...took some low light shots in Detroit last night of Christmas lights and they are stunning...thanks for making me feel good about my purchase and I just love this hobby and ill look forward to other videos you do have a good one

      Thank you for the kind words. I have really enjoyed my A7Rii, yes it was ahead of its time and that is what makes it a great camera to this day. It will still be a valid camera as long as it works for you. Enjoy the camera and thanks for watching!

    I bought a used a7R ii used. I already have the RX10, and a6400. Also I had an a7 ii, but went in a different direction and got into video more. Since the I already have the other 2 cameras, and they take the same battery it was easy to go for the a7R ii. I wanted the a7 iii but just couldn't justify the extra money. Plus that difference could go towards more lenses. Can't wait for the camera to arrive. This was bought from a dealer with warranty too. Nice tips on how to help battery life. Thanks.

      You will really enjoy it, I agree on the batteries, It sucks having to battery systems to carry around. But I think you made the right decision to buy the A7Rii, It combined with the A6400 is what I had for a while. The A6400 gives you the new camera performance features and the A7Rii will handle your image quality.

    Thanks for the tips and tricks. I just purchased a used A7Rii, and been messing around with it for a couple of daya. Just leaning the menu system empties batteries. Hahaa. Upgraded from an A6000, so kinda used to the poor battery life already

    I am also a hobbyist and started with the A7s and later the a7rii, the battery problems are mainly with doing videos!! If you have ever done Milky Way's in May, June and July and later you know it is from sunset to sunrise, I have never had a problem just using 1 battery all night but also for blue hour then orange hour then some birding. Yes the A7s has no IBIS but even with the A7Rii you will turn it off because it is on a tripod. Long Exposures like 20s to 30s with RAW NR on no problems. The A7rii also did great doing Bracketing at Antelope Canyon handheld and then Night tour from one end and back most of the night yes i was the only one on the night tour so I could take more time. Lastly it is the video people who complain for stills either camera are great as gold, after 11 years I still use every new moon I can.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes for photo work it does do rather well. Video has always sucked the power down quickly, even my new FX30 is a power hog compared to the A7iii I think.

    I just got the Sony A7Rii and I have heard the battery was not good - BUT the battery is half the size of the batteries for my Olympus OMD cameras - therefore I can carry twice as many batteries in the same space.. Also I can plug in my external battery pack via the USB to keep it charged - I will just hang a little battery pack bag on my tripod should I wish to do long video or timelapse captures, or put the battery pack on the straps of my bag for long walks... I think doing that along with some of your tips here should keep me happy..

      Its a manageable issue with the A7Rii. While i wish it wasn't and it is probably the primary reason the camera had such a short lifespan before being replaced, it is still one fantastic working camera. It is also nice that we have the ability to have those work arounds for it that will help us manage this issue.

    The battery was the most brutal part of upgrading from my D600, a shoot that would halfway drain the Nikon would leave me on my third Sony battery. Granted there is a lot more going on in a mirrorless camera than an older DSLR, but it still seems like an issue Sony should have tackled.

    • @MalcolmWalker
      @MalcolmWalker  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes the mark II cameras would have had a much long life span had they developed the Z battery for them earlier. Putting the smaller W battery in them was a mistake but I’m sure Sony wanted to rush these cameras to market more then worry about the battery back then.

    I don't know what to think. Is my camera broken? I can literally see battery going down like 1% per 30-40 seconds. This is insane! ;(

      It is possible you have old batteries, is it consistent on multiple batteries?

      @@jeger679I know this is an old post and a late reply, but did you buy a new Sony battery, pr a cheap after-market battery? After-market ones are not great (compared to Sony ones)
