Perhaps some of your critics need to take a chill pill, your's is just an opinion, you're open about that. Keep up the great work and challenge our thinking.
Hassan Goldstein Umm yea nice straw man argument... Since most of them were not even around for the internet revolution... Now CURRENT God photographers like these use social media and have websites. Shoot, even Art Wolfe has all social media covered and books, and movies on Netflix. If all those Gods you listed were born in the modern era you bet they would be using social media to spread their ability and fan base. dmimaging.net/top-modern-photographers/
For all those who bashed me when this video came out regarding the video functionality of the A7Rii.......the just announced Nikon D5 records 4k for only 3 minutes long. EPIC. FAIL.
+Jason Lanier For the serious video producer they are not going to spend 6 grand on a dslr. I'm a video producer and frankly I wouldn't even use a dslr for my work - perhaps 5 years ago, but not now. Conversely, this Nikon is for the professional photographer who could care less about its video capabilities.
+Alan Mauro yet it's amazing how nobody said the same for the A7Rii. My point is the hypocrisy is astounding. Nikons epic failure on the 4K video end is excused away while everyone and their mother made it the main complaint about the A7Rii...and the A7Rii exponentially better than the D5 for 4K video. It truly shows the bias in the industry.
The amount of anxiety these videos induce in certain people is amazing. No really, a photographer just expresses his opinion about his favourite camera and lots of people become unglued, unstuck, irritated and completely moronic in their reactions. Let's face it, Canon and Nikon really have no clue whatsoever what to do with the current camera market. They keep on going the same way while the biggest part of the market is going the other way. Don't blame Sony. Blame Nikon and Canon because they clearly don't realise that they will disappear unless they clean up their act.
You guys are kidding right? . This guy literally said that he loves the camera and these are his opinions about the camera. Why are you all crucifying him for loving this camera? It's his opinion. If he wants to think it's the best camera is the best camera in the world then let him lol. It doesn't mean it's fact. What does it matter if you don't agree? Don't shit on him for stating his opinions. Geez lol.
for the title. thats why we "crucify" him. i didnt even watch the video. its pointless with a title like that. the title should explain whats in the video.
?? It says review by Jason Lanier. Do you think review means the word of god or something lol? Its a review which means its based off of his experience. And his experience tells him that it is the best camera in the world.
GreyCanvas word of god?.. wtf are you talking about i was criticizing his opinion OBVIOUSLY. his opinion is retarded because OBVIOUSLY it isnt THE BEST CAMERA because IT CANT FUNCTION AS A WILDLIFE CAMERA GET IT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!~?!?!??!?!?!
Well that is what you are criticizing. You don't speak for everyone else. Read the comments. People are mad because of what he thinks and they are treating it as if it is the absolute truth. He never said it was the truth. He said it was his opinion. Thats the only point im trying to get across. Everyone doesnt seem to realize, in his opinion it is the best camera in the world. All I am saying is why are these people in the comments butt hurt about some random guys opinion about a camera that he thinks is the best? Disagreeing is fine but literally threating the guy because of what he think is ridiculous in my opinion. I never referred to only to you. My original comment was a blanket statement.
Excellent video Jason. is the low light capability of the Sony a7s2 worth giving up on the good AF? we intend to use Auto all the time when we shoot videos. Is a7r2 a better choice if we intend to use AUTO all the time?
I saw a video of RX1R ll the Sony A7R2 has better Quality video then the RX -(A7 looks more rich compared to the RX washed out -But that was only one video that I watched) Photo Quality idk
+Enrico Benites There are great camera makers outside of Canon and Nikon. If I didn't have Nikon then I'd probably choose Fuji. Also, he's a paid sponsor by Sony so of course he's going to say Sony is the best.
Tecnically, Sony is the best in major items. Compare it in www.dpreview.com And about Jason Lanier, he says so many times, he isn't payed by Sony. I love and work with sony before I knew Jason. I bought one because it was better than it's concurrents (Alpha 77) at the time. I commented here, because where I live (Brazil), people don't have acces to brands or models, just a few...And always it's Canon or Nikon! People here don't search about the tecnichal details of the equipment. They don't compare. They just buy one or another, because "X" ou "Y" said it was "the best one"...This makes me mad! Just it...
+Enrico Benites so he does all that publicity, websites, and workshops for free? if so, Sony is the king of getting free publicity from good photographers.
As I said, I really don't care if he is paid, or not by Sony! I use knowledge and information to compare products! Repeating: I'm mad about people that don't search information, don't compare characteristics about products, acting like "monkey see, monkey do", like the majority in Brazil! If you are acusing him, he is lying or he is a fraud, contact him and tell this directly...It doesn't make a difference for me. Period.
+kalel33 If you understood SEO you would understand why Jason tags Sony, Nikon, Canon or mirrorless on anything he does. He's delivering valid content, developing a following and increasing his internet presence. He doesn't need Sony's money.....Sony doesn't need his marketing. It definitely doesn't hurt their advertising campaign either. Don't hate, it's business. It's strategic marketing that anyone can do. You don't even have to be a great photographer! BTW...free websites, free publicity, but workshops are fee based. If I could travel around the world teaching my passion and charging a fee I would. www.southbayexposure.com
i agree. im a professional photographer in Texas. i started with Nikon then moved to Canon, and now Sony. I think Sony is by far the best camera and with their new Master G series of lenses they are ahead of the pack.
hi jason few years back i bought the A7Rll it works like day 1,,thanks to you ,,,i bought it with 24 70 ZEISS f4 ,,, and few Months ago bought the 85mm 1.4 GM .....very happy with the gear,,,,like to ask a question, you think the A7Rll its a Camera to last as long as my MINOLTA 9000 AF i steal have it with all the gear~~~~~~Lenses,,,,do you remember when you shot theMinolta lens 70 210mm beercan and the 50 mm attached to Sony A7Rll that did it for me,,,,,,sintese then i am an happy person TY..
There have been many unjust comments from those who have not tried this masterpiece of a camera. I agree with Jason in everything that he describes about this camera - I have just bought this camera and, together with a Zeiss Batis 85mm, images of people are just SO sharp and, without any post-processing, images look like they are out of a magazine - SO professional-looking. I am about to buy the new Sony 24-70 f/2.8 G-Master ... a perfect match ... and this then completes my perfect setup. I am tempted to buy the new Zeiss Batis 18mm when it comes out next week. Fabulous camera - absolutely great!!
I had the choice between the D810 and the a7R II but I chose the D810 many because of the focus speed/tracking, the battery life, and the ergonomics. I can go an entire day's shooting with only 1 battery. Also, the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 is much better than the Sony 24-70 (and it is a f/2.8 instead of f/4, but the a7R II's ISO capabilities offset that difference). Also, it has the same autofocus system as the Nikon D4s, Nikon's top of the line sports camera. Lastly, this is more of a personal choice, but since I have really big hands the D810 felt much better in my hands. I love the idea of having an EVF though. Love your videos Jason, keep up the good work!
jim miller I know that I'm going to switch to Sony at some point, but as of right now I am getting the same awesome sensor performance with a much better autofocus system and a much better lens selection. The only thing I am missing is an evf.
I owned the a7r2 and a6300, both wonderful. But I ended up doing my best work and enjoying my Samsung NX1 and NX500. I hope Samsung comes back, it's INCREDIBLE. In the meantime, I also really like my new fuji xt2, and will be getting the Fuji gfx 50s. I'm set for life. The way I see it, for amazing photos and 4K video, my Samsung cameras easily trump the new 5d4, so will definitely last more years than that.
D R I started off with the NX1 and had all the premium lenses. I just sold it all off recently after a year because of the rapid decline in value. So I got out while I could and just went Sony last week. I think we can agree Samsung probably screwed up abandoning something with such potential but given their recent problem with exploding phones and washer machines, maybe this is how they're paying for ditching their NX1 users. To my knowledge, it's still the best 4K video camera - unfortunately I never touched the video being that I'm only into stills.
Anyone else coming in behind Sony for mirrorless will in my book be just wanna bees. I saw that Sony had what was to become the top system. I still use my Sony A7R and even with the much slower focusing system it is still a killer camera. I have beat mine up and it keeps on tickin. I too have not removed my Zeiss Battis 85mm 1.8 lens since I got it last month. That is one incredible piece of glass. I still use my A7R as my studio video camera as I record off camera onto my computer so I can record for hours as long as I have a large enough drive. As for single cards? I for the life of me can't see an issue. I have had my original 64gig card since I first got it two years ago and it has not failed me at all. I have thousands of images through that card and I always remove and replace it when I download images. Never once have I had a card hiccup on me. I do have an extra one because I feel that two years of hard use on the card is pressing my luck. I also have 4 new 1950mAh batteries for my Sony. Double the original Sony battery. I did over 70 minutes of straight on camera recording in full HD at 30 frames per second in quicktime format on one of the new batteries. I now have four of them. For the price of one sony battery you can have 4 of these puppies. www.ebay.com/itm/2X-1950mAh-NP-FW50-Battery-for-Sony-A7S-A7R-a6100-NEX-6-5R-5N-5T-3N-NEX-7-Camera/371383273989?_trksid=p3693.c100102.m2452&_trkparms=ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140212121249%26meid%3D9e9b2a955bf3422ba00d0906622825c5%26pid%3D100102%26
Please suggest me which Pro DSLR/Mirror less camera is best to buy for today-es film making? I have a Canon 7D & a 70D & some kit lenses. Now I want to buy a pro DSLR/Mirror less camera & Some pro lenses for my upcoming pro projects.
Great video, thank you. Very good points on: - shooting video. it's not a video camera. neither is any photo camera. - battery. why do people expect it to last 10 days? buy multiple, problem solved.
Before people go buying mirrorless cameras I suggest you try one and try shooting with live view or the EVF i find it a much less enjoyable experience compared to an ovf. I might point out that seeing in real time what your exposure will look like is great but only if you shoot JPG as most raw editors will open the files up and it wont look like what it did on the camera even if you use the camera calibration profile in lightroom. Even the output from Sony sponsored capture one express is drastically different to what you get in camera previews. My opinion if your going to buy mirrorless make sure they will take returns as if your used to dslr you could very well hate the experience of EVF and Liveview.
+Stephen Gibb Its true but one you try some sony a7sII you will be stunt by the magnification and all the information the finder. It will become a real standard soon.
+Stephen Gibb Honestly speaking, I have used both OVFs and EVFs, and I prefer (high quality) EVFs. That's just my opinion, but I'm just saying that I did what you suggested and that's what I came away with.
+Rationalific I shoot football with a Sony A77 II which has an EVF viewfinder. The problem with the EVF is that when you are shooting a runner zig-zagging down the field, the viewfinder only shows the last captured image until you shoot the next image. At 8 FPS, it is difficult to follow the runner although 12 FPS is much better. This is a real problem for fast moving sports. I've been using Sony EVF for several years and after shooting with the OVF in Nikon bodies, I still can't get used to the Sony EVF for sports. I do prefer EVF for general shooting though.
Thanks for your veido . Now I want a camera. What do you think about the A7 ? As we r in 2017? I'm not a photographer but for my business shoot parties? Thx Jason
Jason, you're such an awesome photographer! People should really follow you. Forgo all these bulky DSLR and its lagging tech. Sony is really the way to go for now.
Bruno Lazaro How often does the general consumers would actually need that 1 set start up? not that often. Even people just leave the power switch on pretty much all the time.
+Intel & Nvidia SUXXZZZ!!! I need fast focus on low light situations constantly. Also need to swap focus modes, white balance and other options etc quickly and frequently which the Sony requires digging on the menus and most full frame dslrs have dedicated buttons to.
Bruno Lazaro I can recall clearly that you can do similar functions with the Sony too. You can set certain buttons to do that specific functions as well. What excuses are you coming up this time.
Bruno Lazaro But let's just say that DSLR and Mirrorless has their own target audience. You don't come and comment shit about tech. Oh and BTW, tell me if most DSLR has WiFi and NFC for convenient connectivity. I make use of those to share photos to my friends if they really like the quality photos when most DSLR don't have one. And also the durability of the actuation is almost double than a pro DSLR rated at. Go figure...
Nice presentation Jason! I'm definitely keeping an eye on the Sony line... just took delivery of the D5, so I'll wait awhile before snagging a Sony to see how it compares in the work I do. I don't want a bunch of extra batteries in my pocket and don't mind the large size of the D5, maybe when I'm older, or have wrist problems, the size/weight will also become a factor. I'm impressed by what you're sharing here. I'll buy any tool that improves my end product, even marginally. Keep us informed, we're watching and learning. The style of work I do makes 3 minutes of 4k more than enough for me, my grabs are generally only a minute or less when story telling. For those who video entire presentations or events with speeches, that 3 minutes isn't enough, not even close. Low light focus acquisition (candle light wedding reception) the Sony hunts for focus a little more than I can take a chance on... the D5 locks it in instantly. In daylight scenarios, you're really onto something. Thanks again...
+Frederick Dunn Afterthought... I'm also one of those who feels the "need" for double card slots, for two reasons, one being capacity and two the image security. Though I have not personally experienced a corrupt card (hundreds of weddings covered), I've had friends who had career-ending failures when a card failed. Maybe it's just me, but I need that peace of mind. I agree that the buffer wouldn't impact me, but faster frame rate has been a huge bonus for stop action. You are absolutely right, the lens investment is probably the number one reason that people like myself just get comfortable with one brand and stop looking beyond Nikon (in my case) or Canon... we all think our lenses work best on the bodies they are designed for.
+Frederick Dunn I agree with everything you say. Especially with the security of having double card slots. I would never want to be put in that position were i have to explain to someone that the whole days worth of shooting just went down the toilet because of memory card failure...
I have been looking ALL OVER the net for a straight answer on a the Sony for video and Sony for photographs.... You just gave it! Thank you for the review!
+shadowjfd I don't think they had a hard time with it per se, I think they just have more stringent requirements. As a matter of fact, the ending comments were quite favorable, there just seem to be shortcomings when using the system for sports. Just like there are shortcomings when using it for video. "While many of our sample images are usably sharp by sports photography and news publishing standards, the issue at hand became more about what was in focus - and why the camera chose which target it tracked. There is no doubt that the a7R II delivers exceptional autofocus performance relative to the mirrorless market, but given the drawbacks of AF mode / area implementation, a lack of direct AF point control, cramped ergonomics and distracting screen blackout, next time I shoot the Seahawks, I'll take my trusty DSLRs.
+kingalias it's exceptional focussing relative to the whole camera market. You do have control over AF point, though you just have to press one button before you get to move it around. You can configure the controls on the camera to your own needs. It's also possible to do back button focus.
+Alan Newman the fact of the matter is the issue is for a very niche market. Sports photography is a very demanding, expensive and small market. Focusing of the A7r II is amazing, just not amazing when compared to the D4s or 1Dx. They noted that you could control your AF point in the review, and said it didn't work as nicely as smoothly for tracking as a DSLR does, and to get good AF-C tracking, they need to use wide-af, but that led to less precision of what target was going to be chosen (often the closest subject, which might not have the ball). It's like comparing a high-end laptop to a mid to high-end desktop computer. Sure, you can edit video on a high-end laptop, but you're going to get better results using a mid-range/high-end PC to get the job done. overall, the review seemed rather unbiased, and he even noted where DSLRs would fail in similar situations "Sadly, the repetitive color palettes of player uniforms, overall flat scene contrast and the underwhelming reach of a 200mm from NFL sideline distance meant an impossibly difficult scenario for the a7R II's 'WIDE' autofocus mode. It really struggled, moving around the frame apparently at random as it tried to identify a subject. WIDE mode only uses distance information to subject track - which means it can be easily confused by other subjects at a similar depth as your initial target. To be fair, many DSLRs work similarly, but pro-photographers will rarely use a complete 'auto' area mode out on the field. Instead of sports, the a7R II’s WIDE autofocus mode is probably best used in a scenario where a single subject fills a majority of the frame, and where you don't need pinpoint precision."
+Alan Newman www.dpreview.com/articles/5684109129/lucky-number-7-shooting-pro-sports-with-the-sony-a7r-ii read the review if you haven't. It seems like a pretty fair review, and consistent with other non-biased reviews I've read of the A7r II. The A7rII is an awesome camera, it's just not perfect in every situation. I look forward to seeing what Sony brings to the market next year (both lenses and/or bodies).
This video is clearly biased: just because the A7rII is the best camera in the world, Jason made a video to tell us that it's the best camera in the world. Wait, that didn't sound right.
+白海塔 "im a professional shooter who has shot all over the world""i have travelled all over the planet""i have done more wide variety and probably most shutter actuation than any person on this planet" "best photographer in LA, much bragging rights? but looking at his photos, im convinced he's bs. all his followers are novices
Jason I am watching your video on your rebuttal to people that feel you are receiving some kind of remuneration from Sony Corp. for being one of the Sony Artisans. I look up to the photographers who have achieved that honor. And it never entered my mind that the Artisans are being rewarded with gifts of cameras, money or photographic gear. I am glad that you are a member of that prestigious group of artists. You have achieved that on the merits of your photography. I know of many photographers who have made the change to Sony for the same reasons that you have listed.
It's an EF MOUNT, and I ordered it to use with my CANON EOS 70D, and for the Blackmagic Design URSA 4.6K Camera with EF Mount, 4.6K Super 35 Sensor With up to 15 Stops of Dynamic Range, Large 10" Fold Out Monitor, Dual CFast Recorders, Scopes, Audio Meters camera that's yet to be released. Thank you for the quiCKEST response time.
V helpful. What lens do you have in your hand? If you only had 2 native lenses for this camera, what would they be? Contemplating the Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8. Thank you.
HogbergPhotography I'm a photographer too, and I hate when my subject is a stop or two underexposed. Seriously, take a screen capture into photoshop and adjust its exposure. These highlights are nowhere near blown out.
I had one and hated it , sold it a week later got myself a D810 and I love everything about it. the A7Rii was not for me far to slow and far to small , and the lens I had was a pile of sh*t too. give me a D810 with a 14-24 on the front any day over the Sony plaything.
Cool video ! I found it honest and interesting to watch ! = ) The DSLR is dying and people are getting angry. It's like the switch from film to digital all over again ! Heated discussions that go nowhere.
Hi Jason...firstly, thanks a ton for your video. Your video is probably the biggest eye-opener for Sony A7 cameras and other morrorless cameras. There is hardly any video out there about how people personally feel about mirrorless cameras...so thanks again for that. I was in a fix whether I should buy the sony A7R or A7II or Fujifilm X-T10 for street and landscape photos but after watching your video I will eliminate the fujifilm. I only have a couple questions if you could kindly answer them. Which one is better the A7R or the A7II and are they the best for the money. PS: I would have bought the A7RII if i had the money.
I came from a Canon 35mm film camera. I researched all camera brands for months. Then I came across your video about why a mirrorless was the way to go. Coming from a 35mm film camera and the reasons in your video, the Sony full frame was the best choice. The A7 is my first digital camera! I wanted the A7II however Sony couldn't decide when to release it. After watching this video, I'm so glad I didn't get the A7II. Instead I want the Sony A7RIi. Thank you so much for your opinions.
Thank you for sharing your review. I am a hobbyist photographer that loves taking pictures. My husband blessed me with this camera a few weeks ago and I am so excited to learn to use it and capture the best beautiful memories I can.
I was Sony user, no doubt Sony cameras are amazing but here are two reasons why I am not one anymore: Warranty and Batteries -Sony won't give you a fair warranty support. -It doesn't really matter how great the camera is, if the battery can't even last one hour.
GH4 records unlimited video, up to the potential of your memory card and battery life, and does not shut down the sensor at 29:59, unless you are ordering in Europe.
+Ben McCartney . We're talking about photography here. Anyway, I own GH4, together with A7r2, A7m2, A7s, A7s2 (just saying about Sony). Believe me, GH4 is a good camera, but very far in IQ from A7r2.. Not speaking about High ISO then..
+Alessandro Caporale Jason Lanier was discussing video in detail so Bens comments regarding video are totally fair game. If you bothered to watch the video, you would know exactly why Ben commented because he directly addressed one of Jason's points.
+Ben McCartney Yhea , but he's right about it being a tax classification issue. So how does the GH4 able to do that, is it classified as a video camera?
If memory serves correct, it's classified as a "hybrid." Legally, that very well might be enough to get around the tax issue, but I'm not a lawyer so don't hold me to it.
+josh h I believe there is a 29:59 min limit on cameras sold in Europe because of the tax. Everywhere else in the world there is no limit on recording times of the GH4 (or its predecessor, the GH3).
Jason, I agree with you. I have a A7, A7R and now the ARII. A long with the A6300. My Nikon equipment now sits on selves in the studio. The only Nikon I use is the D800 when I shoot products in the studio because of the glass I have and the way it tethers to LR. But you are dead on I love the Sony equipment.
Hi Jason, thanks for this. I am thinking of getting this camera. I mainly take photos of my paintings to be to make prints of them. I've done this for years with a Sony R1 (which has been great). But I am now really thinking of the A7Rii. I would like your kind opinion or advice. What lens would you perhaps recommend for me? I am currently looking at : Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* OR Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA .... OR ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 (this last one is rather pricey, but I understand that it's quite good - and I was thinking of perhaps getting a used one. Is it a good idea to consider a used lens? Sorry for asking too many questions...! :-)
+이런저런 its a digital camera dude. a machine. only our eyes can get close to "natural colors" maybe in the year 2400 (if we don't end up killing our selves) we might have a device that can record better.
hi Jason, what type of sony lens would you recommend for this camera? i will be shooting stills and 4k video, i'm just a traveller not a pro, a good optical zoom is important to reach far away details. Amazing explanations in your video. thanks!
Before you make the switch consider renting or borrowing your Sony model and trying it out for a few days. It takes a while to get comfortable with shooting with Sony from Nikon (I own the D7000 and a6000). I shoot with my Sony when I need something small and light but Nikon just feels more familiar and natural to me.
Jason, I currently shoot music gigs and concerts mainly in low light and poorly lit club situations, I shoot with a Nikon D3 which is great, but I am looking for something that works a little better in low light and has a better pixel count, but without spending a fortune on a D4 or D5. How does this camera deal with that kind of situation? I like the size of camera too compared to the bulkier DSLR models but haven't had the chance to try the Sony yet.
Professional is who lives on the job - so make money: he earns a lot of money, so is professional. He is a recognized photographer - please have a look.
its not about having the best camera in the world. It all depends who is the photographer behind every camera that take breathe taking image quality with the right equipment/lens.
How is the camera for tracking moving subjects? Thinking of picking one up for myself to meet the need of my clients that need large images. right now shooting with a 10mpx 1d mark iii and kind of hindered on printing larger than 24" x 36" on canvas and would love to produce larger images.
I don't have this camera but I know more than enough about videography/photography to follow along with what he's saying and I totally love this camera. I am more into video but I love photo too so this camera really appeals to all my likes. Sony did a great job with this camera. Also, you don't have to be sponsored or paid to say nice things about something. This camera is a beast
Hey I would love to get that camera but it's too much for me. I only have the canon sl1. can you give me some advice on what canon Iens I should get. maybe the 50mm L or 24-105. or 35 mm. what do you think. I shoot... portrait. landscape and I do videos as well. would really appreciate the input.
this video is really misleading, since when a 70-200 2.8 with metabones has the same bahavior has a native setup?? how can you speak of the a7R2 focusing and action capabilities without mentioning its viewfinder lag and far inferior accuracy in all focusing points?
your video just doesnt mention the pros and cons of both systems its obvious dslrs will be history in years time but still mirrorless cant match the simplicity, ease of use, processing power, ruggedness of a dslr, you have dedicated talor made dslrs for each kind of user nowadays and the very best glass in the market. the a7rii is still a very expensive hypster toy with too much bells and whistles.
+Simão Ribeiro I've used DSLR and film cameras for 25 years. I've used Mirrorless for the past 2 years. You're clearly just reading specs off a blog. Seriously man, you don't know what you're talking about.
Answers: have you used the 70-200 f/2.8 Canon with the metabones adapter? No, I'd venture to say you haven't. Lag? Imperceptible. Auto focus? Works awesome. What else?
Shot Canon exclusively for the past four years and never thought otherwise. The Sony a7Rii has literally been the best investment I've ever made. Any argument against it is easily forgotten when you see the quality it outputs. Sigma adapters to use Art series lenses, The new Gmaster class and not to mention you get the legendary Zeiss quality glass from almost every lens. Sadly it is time to see that Canon just doesn't hang for anywhere near the price range that Sony is giving us. I truly feel bad for anyone who thinks otherwise. Nice video, sir! I love that you are a realist like myself and tell people how it is when it comes to the petty squabbles of batteries and irrelevant nonsense!!!!!
Hey Jason, Just wondering what is going to be better the a7s or the a7rii? In regards to talking about concert photography, crisp sharp images, best res for the sharp images and best low light?
you should watch his earlier videos about converting to Sony, im a nikon user, pros and cons by both camera, I like the way Sony innovated their camera tech
yeah, converted to Sony, that world famous camera company (sorry I was thinking about the walkman) because HE"S SPONSORED. There's fifteen other dickheads just like him who'll swear on their Granmother's grave that the Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Leica, etc etc are the best camera in the world.
Karl .. are you sure?.. www.dxomark.com/cameras/brand-canon-nikon-sony-leica-pentax-olympus-samsung-fujifilm-panasonic-dxo-phase_one-hasselblad-konica_minolta-nokia-leaf-ricoh#hideAdvancedOptions=false&viewMode=list&yDataType=rankDxo
#1 reason to buy it, it overheats and its awesome when that happens. Listen, its ONE big advantage is its video low light, otherwise, its not the best. Update* - Now owners are reporting lots of firmware issues, operational issues, and shutter issues plus its terrible battery life make it not a great camera. Overheating HAS been fixed with a firmware update.
i just bought a sony a6000 with two kit lenses , do you think i made the right choice to begin photography? and learn how to shoot raw, landscape, some portraits, and youtube videos?
+Jason Lanier I currently using a 5D Mark iii and I have a Canon G7x. I constantly run into situations where I wish my 5Diii has some of the features of the G7x. The ability to preview your exposures is awesome. The tilt screen. The WiFi. I would literally take the SD card out of my 5D and put it into my G7x just so I can upload it to my phone. For the life of me, I don't know why canon/nikon just refuse to put these features into their FF cameras. I still love my 5D for the awesomely fast auto focus and it's the main reason why I'm willing to live with the negatives.
I have a Canon 5dm3 with three L-glass lenses. I also have three of the Canon EX600-RT speedlights and the hotshoe controller to fire them. Are those lights and controller no longer usable on the Sony? What about my Pocket Wizard triggers?
hi jason, thanks for all your tips on shooting weddings. Awesome pictures man. I have 1 question, ezactly what metabones adapter should I buy for my Sony A7r ii so I can use all my canon lenses. thanks in advanced.
I really hope Sony paid him enough to justify the pathetic meandering he did for 18 minutes, using arguments he knows only the very uninitiated would gobble up. Sad.
+medstud If Nikon and Canon do not make a similar camera to this, they will be like dinosaurs. DSLRs are dead as of this moment. I'm pretty sure once Canon and Nikon do a similar camera, you will be praising ther cameras. Mirrorless is the future.
+Randy Monster Nikon( Nikon 1 something) and Canon (EOS M3)has mirrorless but it hasn't took off. I don't think they think through about their mirrorless.
Most Cocky SOBs ranting with this kinda passion are pixel peeping posers with no portfolio. When you actually look at their work they voice fades into silence to my ears. To me that's the measure - what have they done. This dude can back all his words! Refreshing as hell! You got evidence - say it however ya want bro!
Jason you are basically my role model of photography! I started with a sonya100, years ago!! then I bought the a6000, and now I am about to buy this one! I watch all your videos to try to learn techniques and I hope one day I can acquire the skills with sony as you have!! Happy shooting my sony brother!!! Hehe
Hi , just wanted to have your opinion before buying A7R2 , . Heard that A6500 has better auto focus, but full frame and 43 mega pixcell advantage that A7R2 has is really worth over A6500. The cost difference is also considerably high. Please suggest me before investing on A7R2 if I can go for A6500 instead ?
I still don't get the mirrorless deal yet... with pro glass (especially with an adapter) it makes for essentially the same size and weight when you are carrying around a bag of batteries, but then you've got the drawbacks of crap battery, idiotically narrow mount, evf, and most importantly severely lacking native lens situation. Just not worth it yet. So unless you are shooting with pancake lenses the size deal isn't so much of a deal. I sure love my A6000 for toting around as a toy, but for work I'll stick to my 5d III at least for now.
I waited for 4 years to finally be able to purchase this amazing camera!
Me too lol cheers
Same !
I just bought mine :)
same!!
And u got ripped off with that battery life lol
Bashing him for his opinion lol. The man is a god at what he does, clearly he's doing just fine. Much love bro!
David Pinon thank you brother...it's amazing how some people can get so worked up over an opinion lol
Perhaps some of your critics need to take a chill pill, your's is just an opinion, you're open about that. Keep up the great work and challenge our thinking.
Chris Angeles and you? Do you have a successful channel or Photography business? Nope, I never heard of you.
Research? I can't dig deep enough to find out anything about you lol!

Umm yea nice straw man argument...

+Jason Lanier with 3.0 firmware for the a7r ii and a7s ii the overheating problem is completely gone
+Joao Fezas Vital yea, I know..:)
+Jason Lanier getting the camera next week along with a commlite adapter to use with my canon glass.. can't wait :D
The best camera in the world is the one you can't afford.
Now I finally can! Ordered one and it is stuck in France due to checks and blocks due to covid 19!
@@SergioBlackDolphin sorry that really blows
But it'll come soon, I'm excited for you!
@@Atlas92936 I finally got it and it is a great camera.
@@SergioBlackDolphin fantastic!
well get a job
I like this guy. He didn't get stuck in 90s. He moves with technology and adapted quickly
Thank you..:)
I agree he is just saying his opinion
Totally agree AND...I LOVE my A7rii!!
Uuuu o u
GreyCanvas word of god?.. wtf are you talking about i was criticizing his opinion OBVIOUSLY. his opinion is retarded because OBVIOUSLY it isnt THE BEST CAMERA because IT CANT FUNCTION AS A WILDLIFE CAMERA
GET IT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!~?!?!??!?!?!
GreyCanvas i guess you're right
I love my A7r II, I use it with Canon, Zeiss, Sigma, Tamron and Samyang lenses, rocks.
Sweet, mate''.
Finally I can afford this
Excellent video Jason. is the low light capability of the Sony a7s2 worth giving up on the good AF? we intend to use Auto all the time when we shoot videos. Is a7r2 a better choice if we intend to use AUTO all the time?
Get the A7S2 for video work. It's a lot better in low light.
Great video Jason ! Could you please get from Sony a RX1R II to test and share your opinion ? I'd like to have this camera. Thank you very much ;-)
+Michel Fourkas Will do!
+Jason Lanier thank youuuuuu 😊
Watch out leica :-)
I saw a video of RX1R ll the Sony A7R2 has better Quality video then the RX -(A7 looks more rich compared to the RX washed out -But that was only one video that I watched) Photo Quality idk
+lasarith2 thanks for the input 😊
You are my hero! You are the proof that life exists beyond Canon and Nikon!
+Ray Eccleston You can use the Sony 24-70 2.8, or the Nikon and Canon glass.
+Ray Eccleston Bad choice brohamlet.
jim miller I know that I'm going to switch to Sony at some point, but as of right now I am getting the same awesome sensor performance with a much better autofocus system and a much better lens selection. The only thing I am missing is an evf.
+peter thomas Jason already switched to Sony before they started to pay him.
If i did sell my Sonys which i won't, it certainly wouldn't be for Canon or Nikon, i would be getting Fuji
It's been 5 years and I still cannot afford this camera. (burst into crying)
iv'e been there. just bought my sony ar7ii. you got this
on sale, go get it.
Which lens would you recommend for both 4K video and stills? I don't like to travel with multiple lenses. Thanks! Great video!
Got one last year almost brand new (123 shutter count) for $925... love the thing! :)
Great video..you've convinced me to give the A7Rii a try.
I'll be purchasing this in a few weeks time, Sony A7r ii here I come! 💪✊✊✊🤘🤙
What about in 2021, do you think it's still a great camera? Thanks Jason!
Very good points on:
- shooting video. it's not a video camera. neither is any photo camera.
- battery. why do people expect it to last 10 days? buy multiple, problem solved.
6:28 one guy has a massive Nikon lense the other guy cannon and he's chillin with his Sony lol
I think this will be my next camera. I'll save for it. Thanks again Jason for the video
Leggy tech? Turning on a dslr focus and shoot combined takes less than 1 second, the same on a a7rii takes 4-5secobds
He's putting some really good information out there but the way he comes off is condescending/douchebaggyish.
I'm going out on a limb here, but i'm guessing you really love the A7Rii..., good for you man, enjoy!!
Every time I hear one of those stories... it's a career attenuating moment/event... may it never happen to either one of us :)
I have been looking ALL OVER the net for a straight answer on a the Sony for video and Sony for photographs.... You just gave it! Thank you for the review!
Could you teach the guys at DPR how to shoot sports with the A7R II? They seemed to had a hard time with it
Sure. Just have them sign up for a workshop with me..:)
So what's your point?
+Joshua Bokelman Probbably being sarcastic
shadowjfd Indeed.
+complicatedjason and yet nobody knows who you are...lol
I checked my thesaurus for the definition of "arrogant", and it linked to this video.
He sounds like a infomercial.
If you're such a great photographer and expert, why is your video underexposed at least a stop?
+Charles Wood LOL
+Charles Wood "Mood".
I always expose the skies brother. If I wasn't in the middle of nowhere I would've simply added an LED light to bring me in exposure. Not a big deal.
Charles Wood because he is outdoors in when the sun is low.
Because that's the way he wants it. How's that difficult to understand.
Would you be able to go into a very detailed video about the settings ? i have this camera but can't figure out how to use it
V helpful. What lens do you have in your hand? If you only had 2 native lenses for this camera, what would they be? Contemplating the Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8. Thank you.
I must be a photographer, because I seriously can't stand how you are framed in this video :D
As someone below, in the know, that he's sponsored (PAID) by Sony...ho ..ho..ho. He's a f*cking talking head for the walkman company.
I can't stand the super low exposure on this video
Im a photographer, and I hate blown highlights - nothing looks more unnatural, so this exposure looks good.
The DSLR is dying and people are getting angry. It's like the switch from film to digital all over again ! Heated discussions that go nowhere.
Lol pretty much. Glad you liked it!
Thank you for your kind words and I'm so glad to hear that it helped you...:) save your money for the A7Rii, it's MUCH better than the A7R.
+Jason Lanier Thanks Jason for the advice..i'll surely try to save for a7r2. But given a choice of a7ii and a7R which one would you choose.
I'm curious if anyone takes this guy seriously ?
I don't trust anyone wearing a fedora.
Yep.
JustARandomStranger Luckily he isn't wearing one.
Peter Gull
I'm sorry.. did you watch the same video I did?
I'd rather trust him rather than Just A Random Stranger.
gumaming

"I dont baby it" *few mins later* "I love it, it is my baby"
Thank you for sharing your review. I am a hobbyist photographer that loves taking pictures. My husband blessed me with this camera a few weeks ago and I am so excited to learn to use it and capture the best beautiful memories I can.
Thank you, Jason, for such an unbiased report. It is the results, not the camera that is important.
Thank you!!
Great review! good points
I was Sony user, no doubt Sony cameras are amazing but here are two reasons why I am not one anymore: Warranty and Batteries
-Sony won't give you a fair warranty support.
-It doesn't really matter how great the camera is, if the battery can't even last one hour.
Jan H. 3:05 listen carefully
I am currently looking at :
Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* OR
Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA .... OR
ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 (this last one is rather pricey, but I understand that it's quite good - and I was thinking of perhaps getting a used one.
Is it a good idea to consider a used lens?
Sorry for asking too many questions...! :-)
Just for disclosure, you are sponsored by Sony?
It would be a nice camera if only it produced natural color.
+이런저런 There is no camera capable of something like that. All is a interpretation, a binary code ._. in our days. Be more specific.
+Zvaigzne Alcerreca (coyot3) There a many cameras capable of more natural color then Sony, in fact most of them. Maybe even Nikon :)
+이런저런 well if you are talking about more likely colors to the ones we see i agree on that
+Zvaigzne Alcerreca (coyot3) Yep.
+이런저런 its a digital camera dude. a machine. only our eyes can get close to "natural colors" maybe in the year 2400 (if we don't end up killing our selves) we might have a device that can record better.
the a7s2 is the best for videos and the a7r2 is the best for stills good job sony 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😊🔥🔥
buying this camera in the next week! can't wait!!
hi Jason, what type of sony lens would you recommend for this camera? i will be shooting stills and 4k video, i'm just a traveller not a pro, a good optical zoom is important to reach far away details. Amazing explanations in your video. thanks!
Best doesn't exist. Got a 7D, A7 and X100 and keep them all.
The background looks weird.. kind of like your standing in front of a green screen
very weird indeed, though the glasses on his head and the clouds very slowly moving, show that it's real
I am switching from nikon to sony!
Why? And from Which model to which model? :)
Before you make the switch consider renting or borrowing your Sony model and trying it out for a few days. It takes a while to get comfortable with shooting with Sony from Nikon (I own the D7000 and a6000). I shoot with my Sony when I need something small and light but Nikon just feels more familiar and natural to me.
loving mine every bit!
Thanks Jason for tour rewiew. Please tell me if the sigma mc11 adapter is the best for canon lens es or which one do you recomend?
I respect your opinion
Thank you brother..:)
´´I am a professional shooter..´´
You dont claim that you are professional, your work does
Professional is who lives on the job - so make money: he earns a lot of money, so is professional.
ViciousPb thank you!
Oh yes... Let's trust the guy with the video that's underexposed by 4 stops. A real pro, y'all.
you work for Sony.
this youtuber was paid $1,000 for 10 Reasons in this video. Made $100 for each reason.
Can I use Olympus M Zuiko ED 40-150mm f2.8 PRO Lens on this Sony a7rii? if yes then what's the best adapter for this len to work on Sony a7rii?
Hey I would love to get that camera but it's too much for me.
I only have the canon sl1. can you give me some advice on what canon Iens I should get. maybe the 50mm L or 24-105. or 35 mm. what do you think. I shoot... portrait. landscape and I do videos as well. would really appreciate the input.
Do the clouds move in Tazmania?
nope youre just high lol
1 reason why it's not: single memory card slot.
@e n o u g h then when ur card fails u can just give ur clients photos from one you swapped out and they can forget the rest
@e n o u g h good for you. Many have. This video is old, no excuse or reason to not have atleast the a7iii by now.
this video is really misleading, since when a 70-200 2.8 with metabones has the same bahavior has a native setup?? how can you speak of the a7R2 focusing and action capabilities without mentioning its viewfinder lag and far inferior accuracy in all focusing points?
I'd venture to say you've never used the A7Rii because all of our comments are the typical talking points that people just read online.
your video just doesnt mention the pros and cons of both systems its obvious dslrs will be history in years time but still mirrorless cant match the simplicity, ease of use, processing power, ruggedness of a dslr, you have dedicated talor made dslrs for each kind of user nowadays and the very best glass in the market. the a7rii is still a very expensive hypster toy with too much bells and whistles.
+Simão Ribeiro I've used DSLR and film cameras for 25 years. I've used Mirrorless for the past 2 years. You're clearly just reading specs off a blog. Seriously man, you don't know what you're talking about.
you dont eaven bother to answer, forget it...
Excellent review. If I could justify it to the wife I would buy this camera!
I know I'll have the same resource, cause I haven't told my wife I bought it! Hahaha
Sponsored?
you should watch his earlier videos about converting to Sony, im a nikon user, pros and cons by both camera, I like the way Sony innovated their camera tech
I will
yeah, converted to Sony, that world famous camera company (sorry I was thinking about the walkman) because HE"S SPONSORED. There's fifteen other dickheads just like him who'll swear on their Granmother's grave that the Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Leica, etc etc are the best camera in the world.

If you will buy today, will you pick this or the "mini" version a6500? Thanks 🙏
i just bought a sony a6000 with two kit lenses , do you think i made the right choice to begin photography? and learn how to shoot raw, landscape, some portraits, and youtube videos?
Is this a joke video?
+Ryan why? I don't really get it, what's with all the hate?
+onupirat losers hate
Phase One beat this cam
+Charlie Cordero in the studio sure, anywhere else no, not really. thats like saying a f1 car is as practical as a sedan. not exactly better
+Charlie Cordero no shit sherlock :D and Porsche beats any volkswagen :D
Michal Gajdos ok camera
nikon d3200 what ?
+Charlie Cordero I'd rather sell the Phase One, buy 3 A7RII's, and put a down payment on a house.
Lazy Buzzfeed 'Reasons Why' list format and reeks of money being exchanged. Joy!
Lol
+Jason Lanier I currently using a 5D Mark iii and I have a Canon G7x. I constantly run into situations where I wish my 5Diii has some of the features of the G7x. The ability to preview your exposures is awesome. The tilt screen. The WiFi. I would literally take the SD card out of my 5D and put it into my G7x just so I can upload it to my phone. For the life of me, I don't know why canon/nikon just refuse to put these features into their FF cameras. I still love my 5D for the awesomely fast auto focus and it's the main reason why I'm willing to live with the negatives.
I don't have the 5dmk 3 but i use the exposure preview all the time on my 5d mk 2 & 6d, just turn it to manual & turn on your live view, da dar !!!
Sad.
Sounds legit bro.
+medstud If Nikon and Canon do not make a similar camera to this, they will be like dinosaurs. DSLRs are dead as of this moment. I'm pretty sure once Canon and Nikon do a similar camera, you will be praising ther cameras. Mirrorless is the future.
+Randy Monster not dead yet, but treading for sure.
+Randy Monster Nikon( Nikon 1 something) and Canon (EOS M3)has mirrorless but it hasn't took off. I don't think they think through about their mirrorless.
I went for it until you did that "I love a small battery" thing...
Dan Saghin lol
Dan Saghin mee to!
Thank you brother! People who talk without a portfolio are people I don't listen to...:)
Do you get the mirrorless deal now?
@JA DouglasI'like to look at those portraits, if it is possible
