There is such a thing as smell training! It might be something for your mom to try out. If you can't smell for a long time your body sort of forgets how, so it basically starts off with really strong scents that are familiar, often from childhood, and works from there

I had Covid in November, eating an apple was the first time I realized I lost taste and smell... it tasted like a hard boiled egg only the wrong texture. Hope you get your taste and smell back soon, and completely. I got most of mine back, some things took longer that others and there are still things I am not sure about like diesel that it has to be fairly concentrated for me to smell
This was years ago and nothing to do with Covid. I like Ribena and had a glass of it at my desk. As I worked, my mind kept telling me I needed a drink of Coke and I absentmindedly convinced myself it was Coke. When I instinctively took a drink, the taste was horrible because it wasn't what my brain was expecting. :-)
This is so interesting to watch! I was born without my sense of smell so it's fascinating to see someone describe the experience when they do understand what the addition of smell should be doing. Like, to me lemon is just sour and I'm intrigued what it is that makes it different to most people. Hope you're feeling better soon and that your sense of smell comes back quickly like it does for most people with covid. If it does take longer to come back, there's a few sense of smell organisations in the UK that can give you advice such as Fifth Sense and Abscent
I had Covid with this exact symptoms and it's seriously bizzare. I couldn't smell ANYTHING! Even the steam from boiling water with ginger in it. It's crazy!
During COVID I had no appetite really, I fed on whatever shit there was in the fridge because nothing had a taste at all. Its not like a common cold where flavours are kind of there but behind a curtain, or they come and go or are hard to reach. With COVID your sense of taste/smell is completely deactivated, there's nothing at all, it was quite mental. One random day 7 days after I was diagnosed and after waking up from a 3 hour nap, they randomly came back. Flavours were a bit distorted for a day or two, and then all back to normal.
This is so intriguing to watch! My mum and I both had covid (supposedly, it was back in January 2020) and I couldn’t taste anything for a while. This brings back so many weird memories. Hopefully your sense of smell and taste comes back soon! Take it easy.
I had covid and lost my smell and taste too!! seriously the freakiest sensation ever… like you know it should have a flavor but it just doesn’t. My friend blindfolded me and gave me essential oils to smell and I seriously couldn’t smell even a little bit of them. thankfully my senses returned after a few weeks but jeez!! so strange

My grandma died from covid but I still enjoy the videos like this one. We are allowed to have fun with what we're given. I don't want covid to be a tragic thing to everyone. For someone it can just be an experience to overcome. I hope you get well soon.
Thank you for doing this! I'm just getting over COVID and the lingering effect is not being able to smell or taste anything, and I swear my family thinks I'm lying that I still can't smell a LOT of things! Now I can show them this video!!!
It took me well over a month to get any taste or smell back at all. The only thing sensation I had outside of the temperature and texture of the food was a vague sense of salt. Also, in the 9 months since, several foods I used to eat regularly started tasting horrible. Notably peanut butter. That has only recently started to go away.
Going through this now. It's so hard to explain that I can feel sour and spice but not taste anything. And anything fruity or like juice just tastes like sugar water, no actual flavor. I can't wait to get my smell and taste back
I got covid six months ago and still can't smell properly Doritos taste like chemicals I can taste salty and sweet but I can't taste the actual food like chips are salty but I CABTS FULLY TASTE THE CHIP Bleach smells like rotten plasticine Take care of yourselfs, you the lucky ones that haven't gotten it cuz IT SUCKS
i also think i should maybe warn that my experience with covid didn't help too much with derealization/depersonalization. lacking two other senses kind of separated me from myself even more than usual
hi! congenital anosmic here! (someone who was born without a sense of smell!). this is so crazy to me, to finally have a resource of someone who has been able to record the difference between tasting with smell and tasting without. essentially what's happening is that you're feeling the physical aspect of taste (what happens when food reacts with particular tastebuds - sour, sweet, salty, bitter or umami), but not the olfactory aspect of taste which I never realised made so much of a difference (having never experienced smell). I sometimes make youtube videos about anosmia, so once I get my act together I'm going to react to this and respond in depth xD

Dear dodie- plz take care and feel better 💖 ty for all the joy you bring ✨✨✨
I want dodie to try that orange remedy everyone on tiktok said worked for taste and smell and let us know if it does!
I love that they’re all able to kind of make light of it and laugh bc she’s got such a mild case
This is so intriguing to watch! My mum and I both had covid (supposedly, it was back in January 2020) and I couldn’t taste anything for a while. This brings back so many weird memories. Hopefully your sense of smell and taste comes back soon! Take it easy.
Hope you recover soonest. Love that smile.
wait! finally another person who hates truffle!
YES GROSS
Somewhat similar to sesame oil, a tiny bit goes a long way, and a lot of people use far too much of it.
I absolutely cannot stand truffle. 👎
HER LITTLE “eEH”🥺🥺🥺 3:36
I had covid and lost my smell and taste too!! seriously the freakiest sensation ever… like you know it should have a flavor but it just doesn’t. My friend blindfolded me and gave me essential oils to smell and I seriously couldn’t smell even a little bit of them. thankfully my senses returned after a few weeks but jeez!! so strange
get well soon!!! at least you can eat weird things with no consequences!
wishing you a speedy recovery love!!
I hope you feel better sooooon!! (The hat eye mask is 👌 king shit)
Edit: the disconnect between the physiological reactions and the actual taste isn't something I considered before! Like the sour lemon~ and the texture thing!! Wild~
As someone who is currently recovering from covid and got their senses all messed up this video is both so funny and heartbreaking 💔. Feel better soon Dodie! Love from Brazil 🇧🇷
My grandma died from covid but I still enjoy the videos like this one. We are allowed to have fun with what we're given. I don't want covid to be a tragic thing to everyone. For someone it can just be an experience to overcome. I hope you get well soon.
I hope you feel better soon!
"Is it vinegar? :)"
They're not sadists Dodie 😂
This is the perfect opportunity to eat all the food that is really good for you, but tastes horrible

Hope you get well soon!
This was the most entertained I’ve been all week 😂 get well soon dodie 🥰
Thank you for doing this! I'm just getting over COVID and the lingering effect is not being able to smell or taste anything, and I swear my family thinks I'm lying that I still can't smell a LOT of things! Now I can show them this video!!!
It took me well over a month to get any taste or smell back at all. The only thing sensation I had outside of the temperature and texture of the food was a vague sense of salt.
Also, in the 9 months since, several foods I used to eat regularly started tasting horrible. Notably peanut butter. That has only recently started to go away.
Ngl The Sensation of Tang sounds like a great band!
The energy is very good abt everything in this one
i hope you feel better soon. it must be quite weird to get what stopped your life from afar. well get well soon
I hope you are well . I was wondering did u recover from this and how long it took for your smell to come back
She should write a song called “the sensation of tang” based on this taste test.
The anosmics of the world welcome you (temporarily, hopefully) to the sensation of flavor without smell.
Going through this now. It's so hard to explain that I can feel sour and spice but not taste anything. And anything fruity or like juice just tastes like sugar water, no actual flavor. I can't wait to get my smell and taste back
build a -problem- MASSIVE THRONE MADE FROM MERCH
The "build a massive throne made from merch" sign made me think of the GoT iron throne but with postie dodie hats
omg I can't imagine having the sensation of the thing you're "tasting" but you don't experience any flavour
I got covid six months ago and still can't smell properly
Doritos taste like chemicals
I can taste salty and sweet but I can't taste the actual food like chips are salty but I CABTS FULLY TASTE THE CHIP
Bleach smells like rotten plasticine
Take care of yourselfs, you the lucky ones that haven't gotten it cuz IT SUCKS
why did u smell bleach.. you didn't plan on drinking it right?
@@med3532 lmao no
When people from work clean the bathrooms they use bleach
@@franksasstattoo oh god okay I was worried there for a sec
awe dodie, sending wishes for u to be okay, glad your with friends though!
i also think i should maybe warn that my experience with covid didn't help too much with derealization/depersonalization. lacking two other senses kind of separated me from myself even more than usual
i don't mean to scare!! just to warn you a bit and also let you know that all the feelings (or lack thereof lol) that come with covid go away
I hope you feel better soon! Love from the U.S.
hope you feel better soon ♡
Hopefully you're not one of the unlucky ones with lasting symptoms : |
Glad you're safe at least : ) Wishing the UK well from Australia.
hi! congenital anosmic here!
