I remember watching "dear 25 year old me" when I was 15. Now I'm 20 and i realise how fast time flies. I feel like 20y/o dodie in a lot of ways, mostly because i'm so afraid of the future and i feel like i'm getting older faster than i can realize, i just want to stop every moment to really live it, really experience it and capture the feelings. of course i can't do that and i feel like life is passing me by and i'm just standing there, barely realizing what's happening and just like that, time's gone by. anyway, this video inspired me to write a letter to myself to read in 5 years :) (no one will see this and that's okay lol, this is mostly for me. had to get it off my chest)
I'm 22 and I so identify with the way you're feeling. Thank you so much for sharing this, and I hope we both find ways to stay present and just try to treasure the little moments, no matter how fast everything speeds along.

I lost my childhood pet recently and I really wish I had heard those words before. It really isn’t as scary as it seems. It’s awfully tragic and horrible and sad but it’s also very serene and peaceful in a way that only death can be. Idk. Very weird and surreal, but yeah, not scary.
I needed that quote. My cats are old and I have small flares of anxiety a few times as week as I think about losing them and always hoping I have more time with them. I know it will be heart breaking, but those words help ease my current worries

I'm graduating from university soon so it seems a good a time as ever to write a letter to future me.
dodie, thank you for not cutting out the entire bit of you crying and hyperventilating. I know you aren't nearly as comfortable with putting stuff online anymore but I really appreciated the authenticity. i think it's very grounding and comforting to see someone I admire still allow herself to be openly emotional. this is so bizarre for me to watch as well because I had JUST discovered you around this exact time 5 years ago following a really difficult breakup so seeing this made me see not only how much you have grown, but how much I have as well, and it's nice to think that we were on the journey to self-growth together.
when you broke down about your parents no longer being together but being in better places than they were when together made me breakdown ahhhhhhhhh! my parents are also separated, and my mom is in a much happier and healthier place with her new partner :)

Please tell me I'm not the only one who started bawling when 20-year-old Dodie asked if 25-year-old Dodie is happy? because just watching Dodie talk about growing over time and learning to be happy just made me bawl my eyes out holy hell

This is so, so powerful. It gives me hope. Seeing Dodie now, she's so much happier and she knows so much more about herself. It actually makes me excited for the future, when I'm usually scared of it.

I’m about to be 20. And 15 year old me hurt a lot. She was desperate to be loved because she didn’t know how to love herself. She got hurt by some people, and there were many times that she cried in the dark and hoped she would disappear by morning. But the sun still rose, and she continued on. She grew stronger, and she found more of herself. The more she found, the more she loved those fragments of self. Now, she’s still growing. But she isn’t hurting that way anymore. She still cries sometimes, but she’s learned how to love herself, and she’s the first one to come to her own defense, she’s the first one to protect. She doesn’t need some boy pretending like he can protect her. She learned how to herself. And now, she tries to protect others, who are where she was, all those years ago. She is about to embark on her greatest adventure, and it hasn’t happened the way 15 had hoped, but it’s happened in ways neither of them could’ve dreamed. 20 is excited. 20 has looked at 15 and said “I love you now, and I’m so sorry I didn’t love you then. Hope things are better now imo life is a lot of ups and downs. Enjoy the better times and when things aren’t good, try to remember that it will get better and to be kind to yourself. It can help to try and focus on the positive things in our lives, rather than more on the negative side (a balance of both) Setting small goals can help, write them down to look back on later

I watched dodie so much 5 years ago that “that” dodie is cemented into my brain, I don’t watch her as much but watching this video you can just see how much she has changed. She has become so sure and honest with herself. It is so beautiful to see. And I so related to that feeling of always wanting to be 15/16 again, but as the 25 y.o dodie knows - that feeling passes. hearing the part about your parents. it hurt a lot. like Hedy, I was 11 when you posted this and I'm 16 now. I think I was probably 12 or 13 when I first watched it. if 11 year old me made a video like this, he would have asked how mom and dad are now. I'm not sure how I would answer him. my old house is gone too. my cat passed too. and my parents aren't together anymore either. I'd like to tell him it gets better. because it kind of does. but its gonna hurt him a lot. and some things will be worse. but its gonna be ok.
For me ir hurt too but in a good way¿ I'm just currently strruggling with my parents divorce so it felt like me from the future telling me it's going to be fine. I guess it gave me hope that i'll figure out how to talk to my parents about it and how to open up in general.
same here. i'm nearly 16 n my parents formally divorced after being split for 5 years when i was 12/13. so much has changed in the span of 5 yrs. i remember watching this video in the midst of it. since then, my dad moved out; my mum who has schizophrenia is on new pills; she also had multiple operations on her bad leg from a car crash so she's more mobile; we got in touch w my dad's long lost half brother and stayed on his canal boat; my best friend moved back to indo; and, most recently, my gcses got cancelled due to a global pandemic.. it makes me wonder what else will have happened by the time i get to 25 :0

I made pink floral bunting for my walls and asked for a uke for christmas in high school- you were like a dear older sister to me, I wanted to be just like you. and woo girl i was right with you on the eyeliner lol (throwback to Paint with Hedi) but Dodie, green-and-gold in 2020, I have so much respect for you. I'm not quite as tied to youtube as I used to be, but you and your art hold such an important place in my heart. Watching you grow gracefully and untidily and beautifully into a buoyant adult gives me hope. You are familiar to me. Thank you, darling, for letting us grow with you. Thank you for looking at your precious 20-year-old self kindly. I loved her. I'm learning to love my 17-year-old self that well (and my 22-year-old self for that matter). You lead the charge.
Cried a little at this, I think because I feel a lot like dodie in the 20yr old clip, (derealization, alwasy stuck in the past or future ect) and seeing someone being like "it got better" is what I really needed. I often see people saying like "it gets better" but it's something different seeing someone who went through the same hell and who got to the other side. Thank you.
11:30 when dodie said that she wouldn't go back, i felt so proud and happy for her. i could see SO MUCH change and it was really inspiring to me because she's a real life example of the light at the end of a tunnel. i feel such a deep connection because i grew up with dodie and i'm just gonna keep growing WOw
I’m about to turn 18 soon and I remember watching “dear 25 year old me” when I was 13 and terrified of getting older, graduating high school, planning for college, trying to find love and dealing with my really bad depression, etc. Now watching “hello 20 year old me” and being just almost 18 is nerve racking but so exciting because I’m graduating in May, going to my dream college away from home with the love of my life, and managing my depression so much better than before is absolutely crazy to me. (Dodie saying her depression is almost like a friend now is something I really connected with) I’ve been watching Dodie for sooo many years and to feel like we’ve almost grown up together is something I cherish because she has gotten me through many tough times and she still does to this day. Thank you for reacting to this and giving me comfort and reassurance that the future doesn’t have to be so scary :)

when she was talking about being in tour around america, and being with wonderful people and preforming for them , i legitimately started crying. i cried almost as much as i did the night i saw her in concert. i saw dodie in colorado on september 28. it was literally one of the best nights of my life, and hearing her talking about performing on tour just hit something in me and i started crying. i loved every minute of the concert, and cried so much during When. the people there all comforted me and the atmosphere of that whole show was incredible. just let me sob for a minute and realize how much i actually need to see her again
I saw her at The Depot in Salt Lake City on Monday, September 30. I've never cried herder in my life. I'd give everything and anything to go back and just live in those moments forever

I lost my childhood pet recently and I really wish I had heard those words before. It really isn’t as scary as it seems. It’s awfully tragic and horrible and sad but it’s also very serene and peaceful in a way that only death can be. Idk. Very weird and surreal, but yeah, not scary.

My parents divorced a few years ago and last year we sold the house I grew up in and got rid of all the mess and the memories so that kind of hit me hard. I'm only 22 and I still worry a lot about whether I'll ever be, like, okay. this video honestly gave me a lot of hope. I'm graduating from university soon so it seems a good a time as ever to write a letter to future me.

I know you aren't nearly as comfortable with putting stuff online anymore but I really appreciated the authenticity. i think it's very grounding and comforting to see someone I admire still allow herself to be openly emotional. this is so bizarre for me to watch as well because I had JUST discovered you around this exact time 5 years ago following a really difficult breakup so seeing this made me see not only how much you have grown, but how much I have as well, and it's nice to think that we were on the journey to self-growth together.

I’m about to be 20. And 15 year old me hurt a lot. She was desperate to be loved because she didn’t know how to love herself. She got hurt by some people, and there were many times that she cried in the dark and hoped she would disappear by morning. But the sun still rose, and she continued on. She grew stronger, and she found more of herself. The more she found, the more she loved those fragments of self. Now, she’s still growing. But she isn’t hurting that way anymore. She still cries sometimes, but she’s learned how to love herself, and she’s the first one to come to her own defense, she’s the first one to protect. She doesn’t need some boy pretending like he can protect her. She learned how to herself. And now, she tries to protect others, who are where she was, all those years ago. She is about to embark on her greatest adventure, and it hasn’t happened the way 15 had hoped, but it’s happened in ways neither of them could’ve dreamed. 20 is excited. 20 has looked at 15 and said “I love you now, and I’m so sorry I didn’t love you then. hearing the part about your parents. it hurt a lot. like Hedy, I was 11 when you posted this and I'm 16 now. I think I was probably 12 or 13 when I first watched it. if 11 year old me made a video like this, he would have asked how mom and dad are now. I'm not sure how I would answer him. my old house is gone too. my cat passed too. and my parents aren't together anymore either. I'd like to tell him it gets better. because it kind of does. but its gonna hurt him a lot. and some things will be worse. but its gonna be ok.

same here. i'm nearly 16 n my parents formally divorced after being split for 5 years when i was 12/13. so much has changed in the span of 5 yrs. i remember watching this video in the midst of it. since then, my dad moved out; my mum who has schizophrenia is on new pills; she also had multiple operations on her bad leg from a car crash so she's more mobile; we got in touch w my dad's long lost half brother and stayed on his canal boat; my best friend moved back to indo; and, most recently, my gcses got cancelled due to a global pandemic.. it makes me wonder what else will have happened by the time i get to 25 :0

I’m about to turn 18 soon and I remember watching “dear 25 year old me” when I was 13 and terrified of getting older, graduating high school, planning for college, trying to find love and dealing with my really bad depression, etc. Now watching “hello 20 year old me” and being just almost 18 is nerve racking but so exciting because I’m graduating in May, going to my dream college away from home with the love of my life, and managing my depression so much better than before is absolutely crazy to me. (Dodie saying her depression is almost like a friend now is something I really connected with) I’ve been watching Dodie for sooo many years and to feel like we’ve almost grown up together is something I cherish because she has gotten me through many tough times and she still does to this day. Thank you for reacting to this and giving me comfort and reassurance that the future doesn’t have to be so scary :)

when she was talking about being in tour around america, and being with wonderful people and preforming for them , i legitimately started crying. i cried almost as much as i did the night i saw her in concert. i saw dodie in colorado on september 28. it was literally one of the best nights of my life, and hearing her talking about performing on tour just hit something in me and i started crying. i loved every minute of the concert, and cried so much during When. the people there all comforted me and the atmosphere of that whole show was incredible. just let me sob for a minute and realize how much i actually need to see her again
