For someone like myself who is 41 and has been gradually receeding/thinning since I was 21 (currently norwood 3), would a scalp inspection via this kind of consulation give a fairly reliable picture how how my hairloss is likely to progress over say the next 20 years? I guess I'm asking if its easier to predict future loss in a 41 year old than a 21 year old.

That is a great point to raise. Predicting future hair loss is a crucial part of a consultation. We do this by exploring timing of onset and rate of hair loss, family history and through a thorough trichoscopic scalp examination. We encourage people to take time before considering hair transplant surgery and the older someone is, the easier it is to predict their future hair loss potential. So being 41 will make it somewhat easier to assess your chances of future loss. We take a conservative approach so that any future hair loss is taken into account within a treatment plan.
