Thanks for posting this - Beautiful performance, Bobby Jaspar was one of my favourite European reedmen along with Tubby Hayes - Tragedy that they both died so young. What a team when he was married to Blossom Dearie for that short time in the 60's. RIP great talent - Got all of his recordings but never saw him live - Thankyou again
Bobby was great;a true jazz flutist was he. I have never heard his sax playing, but can imaging his magnificence. I guess Mann, although a great flute player who also played tenor sax, was fortunate. Thanks for posting.
Hey this jazz flute guy could give Will Ferrell the Anchor Man a run for his money !! - The guitarist looks like Rene Thomas. Thanks for the video. Thanks you to all in the band !
Could this be the J. J. Johnson Quintet? I used to own an LP titled "Dial JJ5" and Bobby Jaspar was a tenor/flute player in the J J Johnson Quintet. Bobby Jaspar was also featured in "It could happen to you" on that album, but I thought it was recorded in the studio. There is also a live recording in Amsterdam from the 1957 J J Johnson Quintet tour. Check these recordings out.
A few years ago I commended Chicago tenor man Greg Fishman on his great flute playing. , which I compared with James Moody's. But he cited Bobby Jaspar as a major influence.. Previously I'd never met anyone who seemed to know the name. A lot of great reed players would have answered Byrd's call for a frontline partner to accompany him for a 1958 sabbatical iin France with a "home base" at a jazz club on Paris' Left Bank. But when you can choose a player from Belgian without compromising musical quality in the least,, there couldn't have been a better choice than Jaspar. i didn't realize til lately that he married Blossom Dearier (couldn't have lasted long).
Probably "Jazz Pour Tous" (Belgium - 1962) with Bobby Jaspar (ts,fl), Amedeo Tommasi (p), Benoit Quersin (b), Daniel Humair (dr) and also René Thomas (g) on other parts.
+Pascal Savelon It's a recording for Belgian Television, january 13 1962, Brussels. On that occasion they also played Oleo, Ballata in forma di Blues and the René Thomas composition I remember Sonny.

Absolutely gorgeous! When he quotes Ravel in the beginning... gorgeous. I can't believe I'm just finding out about this guy.

+wyndhl eodumegwu Look for the tunes "They Lock Alike", "Minor Drop" and "Barry's Tune". He's on tenor on those.

Thanks, Fernando.
A wonderful talent!
Beautiful.
His tenor playing is good, but his flute playing is magnificent . A Fabius musician.
I know Fabius is good, but this guy is better. 😆
@@jerrylev59Fabius is only good to build his career. I didn't know that Bobby Jaspar plaid flute. Fabulous !

I meant to write "a fabulous musician." He is without a doubt the best jazz flutist I have ever heard.
