Stopped the thyroid madness changed my life! I was on T4 only for 18 years after having my thyroid removed for Graves’ disease. Now I’m on a low amount of T4 and a high amount of T3 and I feel better and look better at 43 than I did at 23! Thank you for being a dr that totally gets it!!!! Thank you for the this life changing information. I had no idea that I was on synthetic medication and only receiving T4. For a few years I’ve been telling my doctor that I have NO energy and he has offered to give me anti depression meds. I called and asked to be switched to the Natural Thyroid Meds and he did so without any hesitation. Dr Berry it has definitely made a big difference in my energy level and my life 😁👍🏼!
I was on Synthroid for years - and always had to take Brand Necessary because I didn't do well with generics. A few years ago I was switched to Armour Thyroid. What a difference that made! My hair doesn't fall out, my skin doesn't itch all the time. I can lose weight and sleep! My doc switched facilities - so I was forced by insurance to see someone else - and they REFUSED to prescribe Armour.. so I paid out of network for a while, then got a new job with amazing insurance and I can now see my awesome Dr!
There is ONE endocrinologist within 500 miles of me, and he is an arrogant prick who berated and belittled me for asking to have my T3 looked at, as I still felt l like hell even though my TSH was "normal" on synthroid. I am just going to self treat best I can, THANK YOU for the link to ordering labs.
Been taking levothyroxine for years. I have a doctors appointment next week and I’m going to ask my doctor about the natural type. Thank you Dr. Berry for the information!
To Lisa A How did it work out did you get to switch to the natural thyroid meds ! I’m asking my doctor this week to ask the same thing to! Wish me luck ! Hope you are better!
I use the natural, but my insurance doesn't cover it. IF my doctor writes to the insurance company they cover for a year. I didn't bother this time because it is relatively inexpensive anyway.

Thank you for the great info Dr. Berry. I spoke with my Doc and he was glad to switch me to Desiccated Thyroid. I was on Levothyroxine 200mcg and he put me on Armour 180 mg. I started taking 1/2 a pill today and will work my way up to my full dose. I would love if you could do a video on Reverse T3. I have never heard of this, and it makes total sense how it could prevent weight loss no matter what you do. Thanks again Dr.
I wish you were my doctor. Doctors wont help me, they're like, "you have a thyroid problem which may or may not be linked to your itchy skin disease, here some lotion even though you told us 5 times that lotion doesn't help. Ok, bye." Ugh. I'm so miserable.
Hi, i was diagnosed in July 2000 with sub-acute Thyroiditis. After suffering from sever hyper thyroid for a few months it shifted quite sharply to hypo thyroid. In October of 2000, my internist in Calgary put me on synthroid. I saw him last in 2006, and even then, he said it would be best to keep my TSH levels at.02 or less. I have been "stable" for many years now, at 125 mcg per day. I started keto in May of 2017. I GAINED 25 lbs! I was hardcore for 4 months, then slacked off of the 10 cups of veggies per day, as per Dr. Berg. I gave up for a few months after seeing 3 different doctors. :,( In January, i went back to keto, having learned a few new things, and now i do proper IF 16/8 as well. I have been keto for 3.5 weeks now, and have not lost a SINGLE POUND!! Im 54, as of last Saturday, 5,7" and in reasonably good health, other than my thyroid issue. I weigh 183 and need to be down to at least 138-140. I have been skinny my whole life, good healthy diet/lifestyle, and i dont binge or eat for emotional reasons. Im not a fussy eater, and no allergies, either, but my son is severe celiac, so we have been completely gluten free for 4 years already. Im in menopause now for about a year, and no real lasting symptoms. Yay! BUT my weight issue basically started in 2009 when i was prescribed antidepressants because of a traumatic experience our family went through. I was on and off them 3 times in about 4 years, and i have been off of them for 5 years already. My weight has been completely stable at 183 since November last year. I am so discouraged now. Nothing seems to work. What does one do with sub-acute Thyroiditis? Any chance i can get off these meds or try something different? I was told the virus that triggered the Thyroiditis and the subsequent attack basically blew out my thyroid. Im told only 2 out of every 100 people diagnosed with sub-acute Thyroiditis remain on meds for life. Is this true? Not much info out there, so i keep going for blood tests every year and get a year's prescription. And i stay fat. Not much hope left...
My doctor refused to order me Armour thyroid. I had thyroid cancer so l have no thyroid at all. Took Armour for years but was changed when Armour was recalled. I liked it better.
I'm glad that your channel is growing so quickly, you deserved it. I think it is going to be difficult to answer every single question now in the commen section.
I adopted the ketovore lifestyle just over 3 years, ago, and at 5'7" went from 177 pounds (my lifetime high), at age 67 to hovering between 143 to 146 pounds, today. Either my body wants me there or I've hit a plateau, but I feel fine. Not sure of the difference between Hashimoto's and low thyroid, but no doctor has used the "H" word for my low thyroid. I had a great outcome with synthroid, about 2 decades ago but when I was told my liver enzymes were slightly elevated, I felt that the medication and diet contributed. Long story short, I took myself off the synthroid and now take all the supplements and food that are recommended for bolstering the gland. The only symptom I have now is sensitivity to cold.
Dr. Berry Are there any nonprescription thyroid supplements that one could take to improve their overall thyroid health, or should one first have a thyroid panel done and reviewed by a doctor before beginning supplementation?
I have been struggling with hypothyroidism and lost of smell,I didn't know what to do felt so confused then a friend of mine introduce me to Dr iyaremoses on TH-cam channel who helped me get back to normal.

I need to try the natural dessicated thyroid and hoping to stop my synthetic levothyroxine. I learn a lot from your videos and will share it to my patients. cheers!!! would you advise taking selenium supplement? thank you once again.
@@vicki7807 it was the best thing i did. I was on levothyroxine (t4) for years and felt crappy. Make sure your doctor is testing t3 t4 and tsh. Also check out stopthethyroidmadness site. Lots of good info. They have optimal blood lab levels too on there to show what they should be
Thank you for suggesting that Tinnitus may be a symptom of low thyroid. The problem I have now is I cannot take medications because it causes a severe increase in the level. I have had tinnitus for 57 years. I was a young girl. I wanted to try Armorthroid and Naturethroid he refused. I told him I was paying him but he would not so I walked out.
Recently had bloodwork done and my TSH is 14, normal T4 so my doc wants to put me on thyroid meds. I asked my doctor and he said he's only had 2 patients who tried the natural version, both later ended up on synthetic anyway. Then again I mentioned selenium to my doctor and he seems totally oblivious that low selenium can cause thyroid issues. So I was started on 25mcg synthroid and have to do bloodwork in 6 weeks to see how it's going, I'm going to try to also reduce my hypothyroidism myself between now and then by supplementing brazil nuts for selenium, seaweed for iodine, and meditation to reduce my stress and anxiety, plus as close to gluten and dairy free / keto diet as I can get. He explicitly said he's starting me on the lowest possible dose and doesn't expect it to do anything yet, so if I can significantly reduce my TSH myself then I can show him a more natural approach may be possible. He seems very quick to write off the possibility of it going into remission and says he's only ever had one patient come off thyroid medication once they went on, and its for life.
Oh wow I've had tinnitus over 30 yrs plus I know at least since college. Never had it checked out. Just found out in September I have a low thyroid TSH number.

I have taken all of it and nothing makes much difference. Armour was good a long while back, then the formulation was changed and was not even as good as levothyroxine ... none of them are really all that. They go about 60% and fall short the rest of the way.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about 20 years ago and have been on levothyroxine almost the entire time (from PCP). I saw an endocrinologist and was on the levothyroxine and a T3 for a short time. My PCP alters my med by only testing my TSH. This is the first I am hearing about dessicated
Hello love your honesty. Wanted to ask if the natural medication is more expensive and if insurance companies cover the cost? Just started me to and it has been challenging for sure especially with no support but I need to do this for better health. Thank you for all you do.
A very close friend of mine just passed away after taking thyroid meds for the last forty years and ended up destroying her liver. Knowing her, she swallowed everything the doctors told her, that it was harmless.
@@vicki7807, ...my endocrinologist has seen me for observation after prescribing some meds. Within a few months I found myself having to see him regularly..... The meds contributed to liver damage.... I researched. There and then I got myself off all the crap and refused any pills and potions. He actually made me feel like it's my fault maybe drinking too much or whatever... Which I didn't😮
I had my thyroid ( total)removed when I was 24 because of thyroid cancer. Took levothyroxine for probably 14 years, I started letting my PCP take care of my management of "thyroid, well lack of one ". I had mental fog, weight change, lack of energy, hair and skin changes. Spoke to my pcp about changing to Armour.. and all I can say is I wish I had done it years ago. Even though Amour doesn't give me enough T4 and have to take a small dose of levothyroxine, it still is a life changer.
Each and every single time I switch to a natural form (I did extremely well on Armour) the manufacturers seem to come up with a sudden shortage and all the pharmacies don't have it in stock. Forcing me back on the synthetic form. I have just given up and am taking synthetic now. Not that this comment makes one bit of difference to anyone at all. Hell I don't even know why I bothered to type it. meh, whatever.
I have given up on going to the doctor for my thyroid medicine. It was a nightmare getting switched over to dessicated thyroid and then my dosage was too low or too high according to TSH results. Also no insurance companies cover these medications which is very frustrating. I ended up having to get 3 different dosages to alternate a 90mg dosage and 75mg to please my nurse practitioner. But I always felt better on a 90mg dosage. She would not budge. So now I take Thyroid Gold which makes me feel amazing. I won't test anymore, I will trust my symptoms or lack of. I have no history of heart problems or osteoporosis so I am taking care of myself. I learned of this supplement in that great book you mentioned.
Wish my doc would give me some options other than Synthroid. More than a decade my numbers are decent but my symptoms never improved. Great video, thanks for sharing
Deb InPEI , Yes!! I have been on Synthroid or levothyroxine for 22 years and I really don't feel better ... I first had Graves disease hyperthyroidism and I literally died giving birth to my twins thank God that I have a Praying family because I was okay they removed my thyroid with the iodine pill or something that you take the radioactive iodine so ever since then I have only been on synthetic thyroid medication I did try armor once and I think it made me kind of sick I don't know of anybody else had this issue but I'm seriously wanting to go back because if you watch his other video with his wife and thyroid medications and what they do it's amazing things that is like wow we as patients know so much more about our bodies than these doctors so without making it too long my levels have just gone way up and I believe that started because of my ketogenic diet which I love and I'm not going back so my TSH level is 11.9 normal range is between 4 and 5 we're supposed to treat T3 and the only medication that does that is the natural thyroid medication like Armour I think there's another one new something for give me I don't know the name so it's extremely crazy because they don't tell you this stuff I think us as thyroid patience with the issues that we need to start demanding that they listen to us!!!
I’ve been on levothyrox for quite a few years just recently changed brands only to go from 30. Something to 41.3i haven’t had it under control for years. My endo rolled her eyes at the suggestion of dedicated thyroid
Been on synthroid for a few years. It worked quite well for a few years. Now a days i cant seem to loose weight no matter what i do. Gonna see my dr about trying a more natural thyroid med.
My healthcare provider was happy to take me off the synthroid to the Armour. However, she warned me that the Armour can affect my heart (which is healthy thanks to keto). Anyone else been told this?
I have watched several of your videos and I have thoroughly learned a lot from them I have not learned what area your office is located I would love to be a patient of yours thank you so much for your time
Interesting topic. I had a total thyroidectomy years ago. I studied the thyroid drugs at that time then asked my endocrinologist for natural dessicated thyroid pills instead of the synthetic, she flatly refused to prescribe them for me. So I informed her I would follow up with my PCP for the meds. The endo got to him before me. Supposedly i was uncooperative, non-compliant, and as I had decided to just go to my PCP for my thyroid medication needs, she obviously placed my PCP in the middle of what she viewed as a conflict. I think he was sympathetic but he wouldn't prescribe natural meds after getting an ear full from her. I knew that trying natural thyroid was worth a try but no one would let me so now my health is wrecked. I believe that I could have been much healthier had they only let me. Obease, fatty liver, high cholestetol, depression, statins, antidepressants, stress. Overwhelmed. I'm 64 years old and feel my life is over. Hoping for a chance in another life to be healthy and happy... So much for patient rights.
Dear Poster, I see you commented a year ago. So many of us in the same boat can relate. I sincerely hope in the interim you have found a medical professional who is helping you the way you deserve. With all the vast medical resources in our country, no one should be made to feel hopeless.
Damn you better than me I would have cussed her out and switch doctors. They do not have the right to deny OU medical needs. I think a lot of people have fear but no I would have switched my dr. As soon as I go back to my new doctor Friday I'm getting a new endocrinologist.
@@G.G.8GG I agree with you. I'm switching my endocrinologist I'm going to see a new doctor this Friday. Which happens to be tomorrow. And I want a referral to a new endocrinologist. A lot of these people suck and they're not good doctors. If you don't listen to the patient then what's the purpose of you. And right now I'm taking this new medication and I'm starting to feel better back to my old self again. But they tried to rush me into making two decisions that I was not going to make. I feel like you shouldn't just let the doctor pressure you into radioactive iodine treatment or surgery until you know what you going to do after those two things happen. The first thing is radioactive iodine treatment is going to kill your thyroid and then on top of that if you get surgery your thyroid is gone forever there's nothing you can do to come back from that. It's people out here I've had thyroidectomies who didn't even need it they could have just lived with taking medication and having a nodule on their thyroid but know these doctors wanted to just take it away so I can give them medication for the rest of their life. It's really a scary boat you're in when it comes to these doctors which is why I never make a decision based off what they tell me I do my own research. They diagnosed me with hyperthyroidism about a month now and I've been taking medication in the first thing they wanted me to do is do radioactive iodine treatment and I said no. I want to go see a whole another doctor and got medication because I wasn't going to jump and make a big decision that I might not even need if I could just take the medication for six months or a year and it brings by levels down to normal

Hi was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 18 yrs ago Started taking meds right away Took years to regulate and I’m taking high dosage I’m also taking antidepressants and relaxers for anxiety Let’s just I’m all bandage up with meds Just recently getting into the keto diet but finding it hard the stick with the ketogentic diet Wish you were in my area where I could have a knowledgeable doctor!
Hi. Mum asked me recently if there was any natural based product to replace Thyroxine which she’s been on for 40yrs due to having her thyroid removed. Is the desiccated thyroid you mention worth looking at 🤷♂️🙂🙏
Question? My Thyroid was 0.02 in July. M.D. changed my dose from 100mcg to 50 mcg in July. Had my Thyroid checked again yesterday and it’s 16.88. I will be talking to him today. Going to ask if I can take the nature’s thyroid instead. I have been doing Keto for 6 months I feel great but why can’t I regulate my thyroid?
Oh my! I wish I’d found this but glad I did even if it’s 5 years later. I’ll take my prescription and also supplement mid day with desiccated and I feel better after I take the natural than in the prior part of my day. Thanks for this information!
Hey, from Canada! Love learning about this new way of life! Thank you! I have hypo and am on 75 Synthroid. I can’t tell that it helps much as I still have symptoms. In Canada, the Medical Services Plan will not do further thyroid testing IF the T4 is within range. My T4 tests in the lower T4 range, hence no further testing. ERFA is available here, but it seems a huge jump to go to 30grams which is the lowest dose available. Do you have any suggestions? Btw, I started Keto 5 days ago, have hypertension, hoping to reverse that and not become diabetic. Also, I’m 63, postmenpause, full hysterectomy, Plus morbidly obese; weight loss has been a lifelong battle. Thanks again for your part in changing lives!

Armour is the only thing that works for my hypo. But I cannot for the life of me understand why it is that when my labs are all over the board, I feel great. When they are ‘normal’ , I feel like 💩. My docs always say my T3 is too high, but I feel great. When they look at my labs and lower my dose, I feel like crap! WITH high T3, my blood pressure is normal, weight stabilized (at 20 lbs over but I’ll live with it), no shakiness, and actually I’m still lifeless to be honest, but it’s better than comatose on a lower dose! I’ve been there done that. I know what’s best for me. Although I’ve FINALLY found a doctor who listens to me, recently…….i appreciate the docs in the world that listen to the patient more than they listen to the labs. And yes- I get 15,000-20,000 steps in a day, drink water, eat right, etc.
when blood labs are in the normal range a lot of patients feel like crap, i did as well. When my blood labs are on the high side if feel my best. patients need to focus getting their labs on the high side refereed to "optimal range" especially for those who have had a thyroidectomy.
If you are switching to NDT please check your iron and cortisol levels first - and don't take longer than two weeks to increase your dosage of NDT. You can have a huge crash if your iron, cortisol levels are good and if you take too long to increase. It happened to me... be careful please. (that said, NDT is a million times better than synthetic) - Check out Stop the Thyroid Madness for more info.
After 20 years of thyroid issues the doctors ignored (previously detected), I was finally sent to endocrinologist. Labs and ultrasound diagnosed chronic autoimmune thyroiditis. The specialist said since it has gone on so long, I don’t need treatment!! No advice, just come back to see me in 6 months!! NO. No other specialists or the medical school here are taking new patients. 😢😢 EP cardiologist and GI both say this affects my conditions. I don’t know what to do.
Kathleen Maulorico- Grant I wonder as well. Too bad Dr. Berry can’t respond, I realized this is from a year ago and I need to know. He probably has too many followers. Well, our doctors don’t care other wise we wouldn’t have to ask such question. No dialogue at all, just prescribe this and that. Keep you not dead, but depending on them. Lets face it, we are the only ones who used to believe that they want us well. I wonder if their precious child is close to dying, would they be that inefficient and detached?
Kathleen Maulorico- Grant No, because by the time your test indicated low thyroid, it’s too late. The gland once dead, can’t be revived by food. Meds replace the hormone no longer made by the thyroid gland.
@@c8Lorraine1 just because you're not producing optimal levels does not mean your thyroid is dead. Address the gut an mineral deficiencys and any thing is possible
@@c8Lorraine1 I disagree with you when I first went to the doctor back in 2019 and they diagnosed me with hypothyroidism now in 2022 I have hyperthyroidism. I feel like your thyroid can be fixed through eating well because your liver and what goes into your bloodstream affects your whole body. If you eat well take your medication for a while and start exercising you should be just fine. But if you don't take care of and you don't stop to take it serious at some point that it can never be better
I couldn’t get my levels in T4 and T3 optimal ranges with dessicated products. And one as recalled for having only 10%, yes 10%, of what was claimed to be in the product. That was in 2022 or so, so the problem can happen with any med at any time. I definitely know more about thyroid than doctors I have encountered!!
This matches my experience so truly. I went through 8 different med types before finding one I could tolerate (autoimmune issues.) Further problems when moving to a new state & later having a doctor retire so had to go with a new one, then another because they would a) write the script for NDT but treated me with disdain or b) treated me with disdain & refused to write it. I now have an endocrinologist who will write it but refuses to give me the dose I can function on, so I have supplement as best I can with an internet product & tell her I do it. Frustrating! Without a sufficient dose I am bed bound.
Hello Dr. Berry. I would first like to say that your videos are both informative and enjoyable. I am newbie to the keto lifestyle. I have a few questions, which I can’t seemed to get answered elsewhere. 1. Does caffeine blunt the effects of ketosis by increasing cortisol levels, which can raise insulin levels? And 2. Will excessive amounts of protein trigger GNG, thus hindering the work it takes to enter and stay in ketosis? I look forward to your insight. Thank you for your time.

Now I’m on a low amount of T4 and a high amount of T3 and I feel better and look better at 43 than I did at 23!
Thank you for being a dr that totally gets it!!!! I have been berated by endocrinologists for wanting to be on T3!
what kind of doctor prescribed these to you?

Yes.
"A 2021 study found that long-term use of levothyroxine was associated with an increased risk of kidney cancer, but the association was not statistically significant. Another Swedish study found that levothyroxine treatment increased the risk of all cancers, especially in women."

Been taking levothyroxine for years. I have a doctors appointment next week and I’m going to ask my doctor about the natural type.
Thank you Dr. Berry for the information!
Lisa A hello. How did it go? What treatment did your doctor suggest you? Let us know
In the UK we can only get levothyroxine under the NHS

Finally… total explanation of thyroid medication types. Thank you so much for the video.
Thank you, Dr. Berry! God bless you and your family! 🙏🏻💥
Do you have to keep taking meds or only till it's fixed? How long does it take to fix the thyroid, if possible?
Thank you for the knowledge and excellent information sources. 💕💕. Love your channel.
Thank you Dr.BERRY FOR THIS VIDEO!

Are there any nonprescription thyroid supplements that one could take to improve their overall thyroid health, or should one first have a thyroid panel done and reviewed by a doctor before beginning supplementation?

Thank you for suggesting that Tinnitus may be a symptom of low thyroid. The problem I have now is I cannot take medications because it causes a severe increase in the level. I have had tinnitus for 57 years. I was a young girl. I wanted to try Armorthroid and Naturethroid he refused. I told him I was paying him but he would not so I walked out.
Hi, were you able to switch over, and if so, how do you feel?
You are awesome and we all love what you share. Thank you so very much!

Why is there Talc in synthroid Along with dyes etc? Is it beneficial to the body?
A very close friend of mine just passed away after taking thyroid meds for the last forty years and ended up destroying her liver. Knowing her, she swallowed everything the doctors told her, that it was harmless.
Bottom line some people have got to take thyroid meds. It's possible something else contributed to her liver problem
That's very sad, was she on levothyroxine only?? Her body was probably low on Free T3 which can cause an early death.
Thank you Dr.. Much appreciated
Where do you purchase this Thyroid Gold

Please do a video on hyperPARAthyroidism and the PARAthyroid glands located behind the thyroid.
Thank you! I wanted to see which one you recommended and that's the one she gave me the natural
There's also T3-only meds, which some find necessary to feel well, either as an addition to dessicated thyroid, or on it's own.
He did mention that too

I wonder as well.
No. Not a doctor but No.
Kathleen Maulorico- Grant
No, because by the time your test indicated low thyroid, it’s too late.
Calling my Dr tomorrow and making an appointment with Dr Berry
And
2. Will excessive amounts of protein trigger GNG, thus hindering the work it takes to enter and stay in ketosis? I look forward to your insight. Thank you for your time.
I need help and clarification! I’ve been diagnosed with Hypo due to the radiation I had to my neck/chest. Levothyroxine is causing me massive hair loss last 6 months, I had to stop taking it. What is a better option for me?
I’ve been prescribed bio identical T3 for my hypothyroidism as it’s my T3 that’s low. Have only just started so will see how it goes
How about thyroid edge is it a good product
My formulary stopped covering Armour so I opted for taking BOTH T3 & T4 to replace it.
I am hypothyroid on synthroid but that is because my thyroid was treated with radio iodine due to hyperthyroidism. Does what you say here still apply.
I discovered your channel just yesterday and enjoy it very much. I intend to get on the ketogenic diet and have much to learn.
Agnes Weiss hello. Yes his suggestions still apply to your case. How are you feeling? Have you tried keto ?
Thank you so much! I have been ok Aroum for 3 years and I feel so much better. One question I wanted to ask if I’m currently 5 weeks pregnant and did IVF. My TSH is 2.09 and my thyroid Antibodies have raised from normal range to 29 which is HIGH. Also my T4 is 38.9 normal range is 5-11.9 ) any advise ?? I’m scared this will make me miscarry
Could you do an updated video on this? Armour jumped high in price so I was put on Nature Thyroid which has been recalled. Then late late year because of that I was then put on NP thyroid. Now "lots" of those have been recalled. My dr is not for me taking the natural ones and I'm running out of options I feel.
I'm on t3. Only have been twenty years I was extremely ill on deaths door when I was on t4 originally for ten years never ever well I got worse and worse I cannot convert thyroxin liothyronine T3 saved my life and I do well on it .💕one size does not fit all that's for sure 🌹
ILLUMINATED GALAXIES. I recently got put on this med, I can’t sleep at all and I’m on a low dose only 5 mcg ! Did that happen to you at first ?

My doctor has just started me on t3. How long were you on it before you started to feel better ?
@@333zee I felt better almost immediately but fully well about a week it was the best thing the drs did for me I had to be really ill for them to put me on T3 ..
I’ve had my thyroid removed for about two years due to multiple modules pressing on my airway- biopsy was negative but did find I had Hashimotos. I’ve been on Levothyroxine and find it works well for me (150mcg). I started my Keto journey 2 months ago and have about 10-15 more pounds to lose. Are there any negative effects on the body long term with synthetic thyroid meds? I’m thinking the natural meds are a great choice but I also don’t want to screw up how I feel by changing meds and doses. Thanks!
Did you ever get any replies?
I have no idea what T# or whatever is. Please explain. Thank you.
So glad I subscribed. Thanks again.
