I live on Maui myself. Kauai has a small population of Blacktail as well and people can do a lottery hunt similar to Lanai. Sheep on Big Island and Lanai. Thanks for all the content Dan.
Thanks for the update. I got into archery while station on Oahu. A friend that I met there did a lot of pig hunting, and he was the one who introduced me to the sport.
Just a PSA. I live on big island and we got hogs, wild goats, and the Muflon Sheep that you can hunt. The Muflon are definitely the coolest critter but you can find them in tons of places and we have easily the biggest and most public land plots available! Definitely go to Maui or Molokai (moh-loh-kah-ee) for axis deer.
Congratulations! I’ve hunted Maui five times and it is very hard to kill axis deer on the ground. You were smart to shoot at the shoulder, they have very weak shoulders and there anatomy is very similar to African plains game. Well done 👍🏼
You ever run into any issues with string twisting during travel? I've got SKB case that when bow is ratcheted down with straps always seems to result in string twisted and peep off center...
Man they are tough critters to hunt! By far one of the toughest animals I’ve hunted. Hit my buck in the shoulder complete pass through out the opposite shoulder and still had no blood. Found him piled up about 60yds away!
I've been using the mini-mag as well. Amazing results. Looks like the 4 blade causes a lot more trama than the two blade. Congrats on the delicious protein.
Definitely a huntcation that I want to do with my family. But that’s way down the road since the flight ✈️ from the east, logistics and outfitter is too expensive for me. Great hunt report and thanks for sharing your experience with us. 😎🏹
One of my friends went to Hawaii on an axis hunt this year. He said the guides were just as excited for him to kill an axis as he was because of how tough they are to get close to.
They definitely dont bleed much, it's like hunting pigs with super powers, theyre super tough and will go a long way sometimes even with a double lung shot. You want to be very forward with your shot and low ish, quarting away is best. They can be very frustrating to spot and stalk, they make me angry. I shot a mouflon and and axis doe last week on lanai. I love hunting here. Great vid Dan, i'll be switching from sevr 2.0 to the 1.5, just to keep the penetration more reliable. but fixed 4 blade is my go to , slick trick and tooth of the arrow. Would be cool to see you get a pig too.
Wow right on Dan. Grats on the two axis deer and awesome stuff being able to have family time as well. Axis deer by far is one of the most sketchiest animals. These animals have been hunted by tigers their entire lives in India. Pretty much white tails on crack lol. Coming from Hawaii public hunting can be tough. Game mammals are not managed well due to poachers, environmentalists, and politics. Axis deer is on a decline on Lana’i (State hunt) and other islands (Molokai and Maui) are usually private hunts that cost a ton of money. Mahalos for sharing!
Can you do some testing with the g5 Mega meat or dead meat? I’ve heard they are awesome plus the blades are exposed so it will cut even if it doesn’t deploy.
Cam and Dudley say if you can hunt and kill Axis with a bow, then you can hunt and kill anything. That’s means you’re pretty good. Well done, well done. Props to you.
Was it just me or did we not see a picture of the buck ? Great job either way Dan. Those things are hard core. Hope you and your family had an amazing time in Hawaii. It is truly a magic place with incredible people, culture, sights. Etc.
Awesome trip time with the family and u got u sneak in a hunt . I live on the island of kauai n we've got black tail , feral goats and a mess load of feral pigs .
You can put your meat in an ice chest and put it on with your checked luggage. Costco is next to the airport and it offers the best prices on really everything. It used to be 50$ to check and extra bag, luggage, ice chest etc.
I forget where I seen it at, maybe Gohunt podcast, they said they would zip tie there cams to the limbs just in case TSA try’s to pull you bow back and dry fires it. Just to be safe. Bet it feels good to hunt an area and not have to worry about predators lurking around. Only thing to watch out for is pigs.
Thats a damn sweet case, does it come with the foam insert where your bow is stored in? Also TSA never takes the knives or broad heads if they go through the case and everything?? Stuff tends to disappear so im surprised they dont make an issue of that every time. Congrats on the Axis im so curious how good it tastes!
@@timothymcglothlin4165 damn glad to hear cuz i also travel with golf clubs sometimes and everyone says dont lock it, theyll just cut them because. And the value of my golf bag and entire bow case are right on par with each other
I’ve been given the runaround and been treated like an idiot by Hoyt’s customer service and their dealer. As soon as I get my bow back I’m going to the biggest Mathews dealer in my area and trading for either a lift or a phase 4.
Thats pretty terrible to hear with the price and lack of features theyre bows have, even the new 2024 lineup. Im torn between the new feature packed bowtechs, or a phase 4 discounted or wait for the new to drop. It’ll be a shoot off i suppose. Currently have an RX-1
Good Job on shooting a doe too first. Axis are not easy to hunt/bowhunt. Good work. Dont forget to mention to everyone to keep it legal, get educated and get a Hunting Lic.
Like the channel Dan. But I don’t know how more of the pop up ads on the screen I can tolerate. I come here to watch you. I don’t know what else to say about it. It’s annoying.
@@aSkyTits of course it’s not far for a decent shooter with a tuned bow but you’re kidding yourself if you think a single bevel is as accurate as a mechanical at that distance. It’s surely not as forgiving

I haven't had a hog run more than 50yds after putting a qad exodus thru them. Just got some sevr 1.75's last week! Excited to give one a WHAACK!
Great Job Dan enjoy how your family is involved with the hunting

Awesome - bowhunting will change your life! -DS
Can't wait to see what you got for this new Matthew's bow bro!

black tail, sheep, turkey and Upland bird is often overlooked. Sheep's my favorite.
Thank you for the update on your gear and the broadheads!

Can confirm mini mags are legit. Both whitetail I shot this year ran less than 40 yards.

@@ElkShape Ahhh yes. Sorry totally missed it. Was more excited aspect of seeing another video pop up. Apologies. Great looking Axis deer.
You didn't use a string lock so TSA doesn't dry fire your bow????
Im happy for you seems like you had a lot of fun on this hunt and with your family!
Always!

What was it like hunting traveling? Do you find a service to finish processing and ship it back home? Always wondered how people do that.

Zip Tie is a great idea! -DS
How do you bring your meat back? Whats your process Dan? Any issues transporting it?
Also, did you bring a target or did you find one on site?
Thanks
Debone. Freeze it in the Airbnb freezer. Check the disposable cooler(s) as your checked bags. Fly home. Process. Eat.
If you want awesome meat and one hell of a challenging bow hunt. Go to south Texas and hunt Nilgai as challenging and better than elk
Lost me at "Didn't get to shoot the Swhacker"....
Good info of traveling with a Bow though!

How are you shooting and testing your bow making sure it’s sighted in? Unless you travel with a target or know an outfitter.
You can run to Walmart… that’s usually what I do
Would you take these with the iron will single bevs?
