Iriomote island is the most wild island among 8 other Yaeyama-Syoutou. I visited these islands 30 years ago and one day, I decided to spent one night on the remote beach in Iriomote island. The awesomeness of great nature was overwhelming and I quickly fell in a state of natural high. I felt as if I just took a time machine to pre-historic planet earth and took a peek at pristine nature when it was brutally beautiful. There were not a single person or man made objects in sight under the great presence of night sky full of glittering stars with thick, bright milky way while I heard numerous chirpings of tropical animals and bustled glowing bugs in fluorescent green flying around just right behind the enchanting narrow beach. Everything seemed just surreal and blessed me with such joyful emotion. I felt blissfully privileged on that night being alone. I decided to spend more time to explore the islands and one thing lead to another, I ended up staying in the region for year and a half. As I look back, those days were definitely the most wonderful and memorable times in my life . Bless those who respectfully visit this region.
For sb dont know: Iriomote Island, part of the Yaeyama Islands in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, is a remote and largely undeveloped island known for its wild, natural beauty. This island is dominated by dense subtropical rainforests, mangrove swamps, and rugged mountains. Over 90% of the island is covered by dense jungle and forests, with the remainder consisting of small villages and agricultural land😄
Wonderful, serene commentary. Beautifully edited, produced. Stunning UNESCO site. Esquisite wildlife. Stunning camera work. Harmonious traditional music and textile creations.. Dramatic senery, and well the wildlife....just magical. So educational and easy to digest. Feeling empowered and in awe of this island Irimote Japan. Throughly enjoyable. Thank you. UK 🇬🇧.
Iriomote is truly a hidden gem! The island's untouched natural beauty, lush rainforests, and unique wildlife make it an absolute paradise. Every corner of Iriomote feels like a breathtaking adventure, showcasing nature at its finest. Thanks for such an immersive and informative film!
The documentary not only offers a visual impression of one of the most remote and simultaneously captivating corners of the world, but it also invites reflection on the fragile balance between humans and nature in such an unspoiled space. It’s as if Iriomote itself, in its wild beauty, lives by its own philosophy, a philosophy where time moves slower, and humanity, though part of the whole, never becomes a threat to the delicate ecosystem. What makes this documentary particularly gripping is the subtle hint at the hidden, the constant, quiet, yet profound interplay between the untouched landscapes and the people who have lived in harmony with nature for centuries. Amid mangroves, mist, and tropical rain, the island's grandeur is revealed, along with the wisdom of a way of life shaped by respect and balance. Perhaps it is this respectful closeness to nature that so deeply resonates with us in today's increasingly disconnected world, sparking a profound yearning for a simpler, more authentic life in harmony with our environment.
The music with this so perfect, and we can enjoy its tranquility along with this lovely journey. My we all develop a greater understanding of nature and also appreciate the beauty within a simple thread. The kid in me can't resist the "I heard you liked mudkips" Mudskippers are so adorable.
Amazing videography and narration. In just a single video you shown the whole island dynamics and the message it gives to the world to learn from. A big bow to you and japanese culture. Good luck for your future documentaries and will be waiting to watch them.

Greetings from Southern California! I liked the calm voice of the narrator: her gentle narration matched the Beauty of Iriomote Island! The cameraman captured such details with closeups of each flora and fauna: from the soldier crabs skittering on the waterfront to the colorful plumage of the Kingfisher; from the white herons feasting in the paddy- fields while Dragon flies hover above them to the amazing buttress roots of the rain forests' trees! Absolutely fantastic portrayal of this remote Island in Okinawa Prefecture. Oh, one more treasure of this protected environment which I truly admire are the MANGROVES!!! ARIGATO!
Mother Earth is truly a magnificent planet. I wish the whole earth was protected area and nature could thrive like this everywhere. Thank you for a beautiful documentary
Oh! I like the close ups of the skipper - fish , " skipping" around the mud flats along Iriomote 's shore. But the most, most stunning Beauty of your video is capturing the night-blossoming of the delicate FILIGREE FLOWER : the camera man not only caught the filigree flowers opening its "filigrees" during Full-moon night , but, the dropped flowers landing on the gentle streams, slowly drifting downstream like ballerinas exiting the stage-floor. I ❤ those delicate FILIGREE FLOWERS . THANK YOU!!!
FANTASTIC documentary. Wonderfully edited; spectacular, soothing narration; tight story line; never sags or bores even for a minute; excellent sound with the music and voice-over at similar levels (so that one does not need to constantly adjust the volume up or down - most videos have louder music and lower voice-overs); superb photography. Excellent production all around. Thank you, all folks who had a role in making this documentary and for sharing it freely like this.
I was lucky enough to have hiked up to the waterfall after riding the boat up into the mangroves at Iriomote. Also, rode the Buffalo pulled Cart across the flooded inlet to another small island. Beautiful place.

I visited the island last July. ~2hr ferry ride over from Ishigaki. Love both islands. Very limited times for Ferry transportation and car rentals sell out well in advance. Keep that in mind if traveling to here.
