Mining Diamonds on Janssen

- 55 Cancri e, which is officialled named Janssen, is an incredibly interesting exoplanet. It could potentially have a lot of diamonds, and be worth nonillions of dollars. But is this actually true? What is Janssen, and could we go there? If we can, could we mine its diamonds, and make nonillions of dollars?

edit: a few weeks after I made this video a study came out confirming that Janssen does, in fact, have a thick atmosphere, mostly made of carbon dioxide and monoxide. So that just makes it so much worse because now your rockets need to get through a dense atmosphere to launch off the surface
just get plants to absorb all the carbon dioxide
I mean, obviously it’s impossible for a world covered in lava not to outgass enough to create such a dense atmosphere
@thebeautyofuniverse5250 not if it’s stripped away by the star faster than it can form
@@Kyplanet893 also when you say the planet has a “thick atmosphere” in Wikipedia it says it’s atmospheric pressure above the lava floor is comparable to earth’s, 1.4 bar
Also when are you gonna make a video about tour in Cancri system?
@thebeautyofuniverse5250 that’s an outdated number
and idk
The thing is, if you DID have mines there, you wouldn’t be a nonillionare, it would just lower the value of diamonds.
i feel like you would still make a bunch of money at first tho
Transport them back slowly, so it doesn't tank the stock market lol
the value of diamonds is already overinflated because of monopoly
This is what NASA would be doing rn if it had the budget of the US military
If it's more like an exoplanet full of gold or oil rather than diamonds, the US gov't might consider it.
@@KyanoAng3l0 Titan is made of methane, which is one of the products of oil
@@Admiral45-10thats not how it works
@@KyanoAng3l0"muh oil" still falling for the boomer myth lol.
No not really we don't have the technology and won't get it
Even if we somehow managed to get those diamonds, who knows what currency humans will use by the 25th century? Assuming we don't die earlier than that of course.
We already have enough diamonds on earth to nearly completely devalue them, so mining any significant amount of the diamonds on Cancri e would make them practically worthless.
Chat how many diamond tools and armour pieces can this planet make?
7 maybe 7.2
lmao i actually did the calculation.
If Janssen has 1/3 of it made of diamonds, and Janssen is ~8 Earths in mass, around 14930500000000000000000000kg of diamonds is present.
From proper research, we can denote 1 minecraft diamond to be 2.5 carats, or 0.5 grams. It takes 24 diamonds to make a full set of armor and 10 diamonds for a full set of tools. That makes 34 diamonds in total.
That means that with ALL of the diamonds on Janssen, you could make 29861000000000000000000000 diamonds in game.
That means you could craft 878264705882352941176470 sets of full diamond armor + diamond tools.
You're welcome.. •√•

@@astrophile_8 , Thank you. I genuinely needed that information lol
One of the best videos addressing 55 Cancri. :D
Wouldn't diamond only form deep down at the center of the planet? Are we assuming there would be some geological process that would bring it to the top? Also, how will diamonds form on moons? Is there enough pressure to form diamonds?
Clickbait really is the ultimate form of misinformation, huh?
yes
how is this clickbait?
exactly, how the hell is this clickbait? Its a documentary about a real exoplanet, its confirmed to exist and the facts are there.
@@exocrown2512 i was not talking about this video!
The topic was literally brought up in the video how theres a ton of misconceptions about the planet because of online media outlets.
How did you even come to this conclusion?!
@@astrophile_8 again, how did you come to the conclusion i was talking about this video?
Thanks a lot for these videos. They are really interesting and its good with some videos with more realistic views on our future in space.

I appreciate the hard-sci-fi lens of examining this operation.
Rotavators/Skyhooks can be used to snatch payloads (or scoop lava with a bucket). Orbital Rings or Space Elevators are even more efficient for moving mass to space.
Most informative. 👍
One little addition: As far as I know, metals tend to lose their structural strength at high temperatures still well below their actual melting point.
we need a warp drive to get to it at 50 light years away
lipperhey is such a fun word
Someone make a video game out of this - barotrauma + Minecraft
Great video. On par with Isaac Arthur
I don’t really understand why we can’t put all of our eggs in one basket. Do we need somebody to mourn the loss of the Earth? What is the value of a human life that does not yet exist, one that need not even begin to exist? Why does humanity need to continue should the Earth cease to continue?
because what’s the point of a universe with nobody to experience it
@@Kyplanet893What's the point? There is no point. We made up our own points because humanity thinks they are the most important thing in the universe. But really, the universe simply is. Is does not care for our miniscule mortal forms. Time will march forward regardless of our actions. Somehow, there is a beauty to the absolute of the universe.
@@EEE-1409 actually in my personal religion (as in, the one follower is myself lol), we are very important indeed because we are but the universe observing itself. We have no job or role or requirements, our lives are sacred nonetheless, but need not be preserved for arbitrary reasons. When the universe no longer has need of us we will fade to nothing, and that will be okay.
Sorry to try to evangelize!

So every single clibait is a lie
diamonds burn tho
how could a volcanic world have no atmosphere?
diamonds don’t burn when there’s no oxygen
and if the atmosphere is stripped away faster than it can form then there won’t be an atmosphere (thats the reason io doesn’t have one for example)
