i recently just bought a 230 GTX. what octane you recommend?

Premium is not required for the 230, it won't ever hurt it - but not required.

Stick with 91 octane. I spoke with a mechanic yesterday about the GTR 230 and he said the Seadoo computer will purposely inhibit performance if it detects suboptimal fuel.

@@robindodd1969 By me 91 would not be premium fuel.
From the owners manual.. Anything besides 300 or 325
Use common gasoline with an AKI (RON+MON)/
2 octane rating of 87 or an RON octane rating of
      91.
Use unleaded gasoline containing MAXIMUM 10% ethanol.

@@midwestadventurelife Yes the manual says you can use 87 but the 230 is supercharged just like the 300/325 which is why you want to use 91 for optimal performance. I learned this from a Seadoo mechanic who personally owns a GTR 230.

People are telling me this only applies to supercharger. Is that true?

This is for sure more geared towards the high HPO machines (with SC) Having said that you should always take it easy on the 1st few hours of any motor. Check your manual for details.

I took it easy on my spark 3up for the first 5 hours before I started riding it hard. My 2024 GTX 300 though started going 70 after 2 hours. Depends on the ski and how new it is. Their computers now are way better for the new ones so don’t worry about having fun on it

While this break in procedure works for many, I don’t agree with it. I have raced many high horse power bikes, and friends with many team owners/managers. They are firm believers of breaking it in how you are going to ride it.
That said, how many hours do you have in the three skis you broke in the “proper” way? I started my break in this morning on my brand new 325, and I was touching 70 at 2 hours and plenty of full throttle rips. Might as well tune it next week too.

To each their own for sure. I will say the manufacturer who built it suggests a break in for a reason. I do feel this is a highly debated topic no the less. Definitely do what works for you.

You don't actually have a choice, the computer on these Sea Doos actually limit the power until a certain amount of hours is logged in.

@@gpaje True. But you do have a choice to stay at one RPM or still do a holeshot. Yes, the computer holds RPM's for 1st 3 hours.
