    This is the best video I've ever seen on this site. Had no idea coats could have sleeves lengthened like this. As a tall person with abnormally long arms, this is gold

    Excellent tutorial! I never would have figured this out without watching this as I went along. So happy with my longer sleeves! Thank you 🙏 😊 from London!

    Excellent video! Just finished re-sewing the sleeves on my $12 (like new) thrift shop jacket using the instructions in this video. Yes, I ripped out my previous work because this is how to lengthen sleeves on a lined jacket in a way my HS home ec. teacher would approve. Most excellent.

    Thank you so very much. My girlfriend is a master seamstress and won’t show me how to do anything. I hope to impress her with the new skill that YOU have shown me.

    Excellently detailed explanation. I was afraid to lengthen the sleeves of a very expensive suit jacket, but now I'm feeling confident to try.🙏Thanks so much!

    Was helpful! It looks a little tricky during the lining part but not sure if there IS even an easier way to show that! Thank you for the helpful tutorial!

    Going to have to learn this. All the tailors I been too can't seem to get my jacket sleeve length right. Much easier to just do this myself rather then get someone who rushes through with me. My right arm is by default slightly longer so it's annoying when jacket sleeves are not customised towards that.

    I bought a couple of Blazers from Old Navy, I'm a pretty tall guy so the size extra large fits me but when I put on the Blazer the arms are pretty short so now I know I can take it to a seamstress and get it lengthened

    Hi there! How long, per sleeve, should the entire process take?

    Good job thank you... so I’m thinking of sowing velvet cuffs onto lined cotton (Chinese patchwork) coat sleeves . I thought if I trim collar an pockets to match? What do you think would velvet shrink?

    • @SewAddicts
      @SewAddicts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Velvet should remain intact. Washed or dry cleaned with care.

    Great video! How much does it cost to have a Tailor or do this? Not that your tutorial isn’t wonderful because it is… I just do not have a sewing machine and/or the patience.. I need 6 inches of length added to sleeves of a camel hair coat (awesome from a thrift store)

      I am a 40R in suit jackets and sportscoats. My arms are long enough that a 40L sportscoat would fit the sleeves, but the body would be too long. I usually require about a 1 - 1-1/4 inch of extra sleeve length on a 40R. Men's warehouse, where I purchase most of my suits, charges about $25 per suit to lengthen suit jackets or sportscoats purchased from them, and about $35 to lengthen suit jackets or sportscoats purchased elsewhere. The price of my local cleaners/ tailors is about $40 - $50.

    When somebody has a. body issue where nothing fits correctly, adding length to the sleeve is a godsend. I don't think I would recommend a seam ripper so square the folds. Chopstick, or hemostat or those long fingernails.

    • @havenbahr6835
      @havenbahr6835 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless it's the blunt end of the seam ripper. 🤔

    • @mulliganstew72
      @mulliganstew72 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a godsend because everybody else focuses on shortening things and all my clothes are too short lol

    I was watching the Japanese repair methods for tears and holes... AND, thought that was labor intensive. This is the same way takes both a little feel for it (skill) and a LOT patience.

  • @kimballscarr
    @kimballscarr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What about if you need it longer... ? Then I suppose you have to look at the top of the sleeves TOO.

      @@SewAddicts Old one’s far from worn out. Actually bought a motorcycle… needed some protective gear… used four days. Took car in shop… while awaiting the $19,000 in parts forced, or you cannot register, emission modification had to drive bike to store. Needed paper towels … so bought big package strapped behind me on bike… bungy cord stretched from speeding home and towels fell back onto rear tire… knobby tire grabbed the whole package pulled under rear seat shredding all the towel rolls the paper cloud ignited by the hot exhaust turned in 8-10 foot diameter fireball, according to witnesses, engulfed me melting my motorcycle armored suit outer layer before I could roll and stamp out with hands. Looked a new suits, now on sale, decided to order some orange red Nomex material and some navy blue Kevlar material… some colored Kevlar thread now rebuilding the armor to have a fireproof outer layer! Just as soon as burns heal a little more… have pictures but TH-cam doesn’t allow posting
