  • Welcome back to the Idle Hands Workshop, or if you're new here, Welcome !!! Today I'm finally getting my Vevor S4040 to do something since putting it together. Life has leveled out a lot and I'm working my way back into the shop and this... this has been something I've been wanting and needing for a long time. So kick back and watch as I ...... well, my CNC machine, creates a nifty little piece that I am sure will get lots of uses.
    Gentleman by the name of Roger has designed some shields for the Y- Axis rails to help keep dust and debris out of the tracks and off your wheels. More information and printing instructions are located on Thingiverse here:

    Be sure to give a shout out to Roger and thank him and be sure to like his creation over on Thingiverse !!! Many thanks Roger !!!

      I downloaded Candle 1.2.15b_x64 from Github for starters, there was an older version on the flash drive that came with my machine and was part of the problem. After that I needed to learn how to turn images into gCode so I found something easy and free in this video here from Mr Innovative: th-cam.com/video/bbe56S_O-uI/w-d-xo.html those instructions work out well but if you use the latest version on Inkscape you have to go a different route to get the program to export the gCode but it does still work and as I mentioned I plan to do a short video on that when I have some free time.
      So with the latest version of Candle and my gCode made from Inkscape, I took my laptop out to the shop, hooked it to the machine, connected it, made sure the drivers installed properly which they did and the default settings worked perfectly. I used the first part of this video here from FoxAlien: th-cam.com/video/3CxX6W2Vp10/w-d-xo.html to setup for my first run. I didn't use Easel as I already had my gCode from Inkscape. But as you can see, he doesn't use the Z-probe but takes a 3D-Printer approach to setting up the Z-axis which is what got my head right on this because it basically functions exactly like a 3D printer in how it moves and such.
      Hopefully that helps get you in the right direction, I am off work these next couple of days kind of ( new job and have training to do at home ) so I will try to piece something together because I do have a project I want to spotlight using the CNC and Inkscape so it would be the perfect chance to do a quick tutorial on this.

      That's not a bad idea... I'm sort of a nerdy type so 3D printers and now CNC are right up my alley. I'll see what I can put together for ya'll :)

    You got a new sub. I'm finally setting up my VEVOR S4040 and printing some shields for the Y-Axis. Looking forward to your next video.

      Awesome and thanks for the sub, my CNC died last week or so but Vevor has sent a new one to me that will be here tomorrow so I'll be getting right back into the swing of things with the CNC... so many ideas and plans I want to use it for lol. I can use a scroll saw just fine but damn, why bother when the CNC can do all the work.

      @@theidlehandsworkshop3884 Sorry to hear your CNC died, but good to hear Vevor is sending a replacement. I finished the Y-Axis shields and now the belts, roller, and pulleys are protected from dust and particles. Maybe I should upload the STLs for others to print.

      @@Rogerquin I'm sure it would be appreciated by many people !!! I'm looking to move my black box well away from the machine or under the cart it's on to protect it from dust and stuff. Still confuses me what happened to it but it just quit working.
      Once the new one gets here I'll also be considering whether or not to merge the two frames together for one super CNC lol.

    Hello! Can this cut through the wood? Do you think it can cut through plywood?

    • @theidlehandsworkshop3884
      @theidlehandsworkshop3884  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It goes through plywood just fine, in my shorts is a piece I cut out with this machine over the weekend. That was 1/4" and I've cut some other things out of 1/2" with no problems either.
