UGC is starting to die out, and the ramifications this will have on preserving video game media will be massive. If not already, we're going to experience the biggest lost media case in history, and you wouldn't even know it...
With the LittleBigPlanet servers being at threat of shutting down, I believe we're beginning to see the end for commercial UGC in gaming, unfortunately...

Ironic how all those copied levels in the LittleBIgPlanet series that plagued the community for so long will be the ones most likely to be preserved through being copied to people's profiles and re-uploaded onto private servers...

Same thing basically goes with Super Mario Maker for Wii U, I still can’t believe that team 0% has only less than 10 levels to clear before the Mario maker server shutdown.
You're completely right! Mario Maker falls into this catalogue of games too, can't believe I didn't consider it.
That is a bit mental tbf, considering all the levels that were uploaded to the servers. I commend them lool

Its ashame. Lots of lost media that relies on company or even fan made servers, can go away anytime.. All servers die one day. Its sad. Also a lotta companies don't want UGC these days cause they want more money by making more games. Mario maker 1's servers were recently shut down as well. And soon 2 will have a similar fate. Enjoy everything while you can everyone. Tho i will say that physical media will most likely out last us all in some fashion if not for a super nova a billion years from now.

@@SefWhiter haha thank you! Yup, I recognize it's Ayee's, I asked him to make a gameplay of my level to promote it so I can get the trophies... He uploaded a vid once the servers were taken down 😂

But yeah as someone who grew up with Roblox it’s hard to process that basically all of them will be inaccessible one day (a lot of the ones i played as a kid aren’t anyway bc Roblox likes updates which break older games and aren’t too concerned with preserving them)
Exactly. In the case of updates, that's a WHOLE other ballpark, because you're absolutely right in updates breaking past titles. That's always gonna be an issue with UGC titles unfortunately.. Always glad to see you back, hope you enjoyed! (despite the disheartening topic) :D

That's the aim for future! I've realised I've been overdoing it and it's not great for me, nor the viewer lol.
There's always going to be mods, thank fuck but it's sad that the devs can't just keep the servers up
well, to run a server,, it costs money, executive only looks at the number of active players, and decide to cut the server plug when the game is no longer profitable to them (when the number of active players is low), executive is the rank above the ones who actually put work on making the game an thing, and the executive have the final word, when its time to cut the plug, its really time to cut the plug.
nintendo executives cut the wii, wii u and 3DS servers because there's not a lot of active players and the ones that were active, mostly pirated the games and have modded system, it wasn't profitable.
sony executives wanted to cut the ps3 and ps vita stores, they faced backlash for this, and they didn't, they could just ignore and do what planned to do, but they decided to not do it because it would be a great marketing stunt to not be like nintendo.
one day, online servers are going to shut down. this is why i hate online drms, online only games and digital games.

Gamers really need to learn to let go. Nothing lasts forever, and those online archives people have made? One day those will disappear as well. It’s just greatly delaying the inevitable.
Everything will disappear one day. But it's a nice thought to preserve online games and their content for as long as possible.

I think we should do what we can to keep around the things we should enjoy for as long as possible, that way, even more people get to have the same fun we did!
