Wild how a hacked Wii U can play Gamecube games natively, without emulation, and yet Nintendo never added that feature even though the hardware could do it.
It's so they could sell you wind waker and twilight princess all over again instead of playing the gamecube version. And since the Wii U is completely shut down guess what? Now they'll port it to switch $60 for each.

Just like how the 3ds has hardware level GBA support but can't play GBA games unless Nintendo decided it was worth adding to the Nintendo eshop
@@LucaG1 they didn't let 3ds play GBA cuz they wanted people to buy a Wii u to play GBA virtual console games. Nintendo really are scummy. Only the people who were unfortunate to buy a 3ds before the price drop got to play 10 GBA games.
@@LucaG1 GBA games were actually officially added by Nintendo to the 3ds. I think it was 9 titles. They only gave it to people who bought the 3ds before the initial price cut though for some reason, alsong with various NES and SNES games
What's sad is that the moment Nintendo announces a new Mario/Zelda game,All is forgiven and people will act like none of this ever happened and go back praising them again.

Holy shit Muta I literally just finished Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, started Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and felt like I had missed something. Then I remembered there was another game in between and was going to hook up my Wii U to play Xenoblade Chronicles X and got sad realizing it's probably going to have lost content because the servers are gone, and then I see this exact video and what's the first game you hold up? Now I have to unpause and watch the rest of the video, even knowing you're most likely about to have to crush my soul with reality.
Yeah, that game (X) was my childhood. I got so excited when he held it up!

Aint gonna lie, I have a soft spot for the WiiU. It wasnt as magical as the og WII sure, but the secondary screen was charming as fuck. I especially liked the second screens use for Tokyo Mirage Session,where it was mainly stats and touch controls and stuff. It just looked neat to have all the info right there in front of you at once while playing the game. Not the best game ever tho ngl lmao, the censorship was hella weird and not needed at all
This really sucks, Kid Icarus Uprising had amazing multiplayer. It was like 3D Super Smash Bros with guns.

The existence of the virtual Gamecube within the virtual Wii within the Wii U is hilarious because the Wii did have Gamecube virtual console support but that was not included in the Wii U.

I feel that as soon as any game store closes and you have bought a digital game that you will no longer be able to access, that you are then entitled to a refund of the money spent on those games that you own and will not be able to legally play anymore

Even though the cutoff was in the afternoon/evening, it made my eyes well up to see people change their usernames to "don't close 3DS", and "leave it on+plugged" so we could stay up all night and continue WonderTrading / GTS.
I had work at 4:30 this morning, and stayed up til like 2:30 filling in a few more 'Dex spaces while I could...much love to everyone around the globe who showed up and shared their prized friends...people were just tossing LV 100s, shinies, and version exclusives with such generosity that I could hardly stand it.
I hope to see some of you, either on Pretendo or Showdown.
I was just hatching eggs and loading those newborns with TM moves all night, sending out starters, gen-1s, Machokes, Kadabras, Gravelers, and Haunters by the dozen...what began as a race against the clock became what felt like becoming an empty-nester, dressing up all my kids in their best movements, putting either a Soda Pop, Moomoo Milk, or a Revive in their inventory, and watching them join new families....
Just checking out basic player profiles, you can see how many people came out of retirements / long breaks to show up for the occasion...I hope, full-heartedly, to hold the feelings and memories from last night for the rest of my days.
oh wow I can't believe I missed this vid. I've been preaching about hacking ur wii u for a while mang, but it hasn't had much traction. I hacked mine a while back and could only get it soft-modded back then since I lacked a DS game from the eshop.

The Wii U gamepad was ahead of its time. Being able to still play the Wii U while someone was watching tv was so nice. Scribblenauts Unlimited, Little Inferno, Smash 4 & Mario Maker were my favorites from that era.

It’s pretty awesome to se muda talking as positively about the Wii U when everyone else seems to just dawg on. Maybe it’s not great but now that Nintendo doesn’t give a shit about. Seems like there’s some fun to be had

It was exciting just opening up to see new items and weapons in the games from spotpass and streetpass. All that magic- gone
Biggest issue the WiiU had: no multi-touch. Seriously.
You know what sucks? One of my favorite little games is "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Dark Lord", but it's only for Wii digital download.
Love playing it on my phone with the Dolphin emulator. It could have been a wonderful mobile game.

My favorite way to play gamecube and some wii games is on that dope ass gamepad! Loved it so much i gifted a few causal gamer friends and fam with a modded wii u for Christmas. Thanks FunkyScott47!

The Wii U is probably the best emulator box out there, especially since it can natively handle Gamecube and Wii.

As unfruitful as the Wii U was, it basically gives you access to ALL Gamecube games, ALL Wii games and of course ALL Wii U title (as few as there are), as long as you have a PHYSICAL COPY.
This is crazy, I literally JUST found my old 3DS and 3DS XL just yesterday, what a horrible time to find it again, lol

I couldn't play until shutdown because it was 11am over here, but I did make sure to play Splatoon for a few hours last night before it was gone.
Such a shame it's gone now. The Wii U is junk in some ways, but in others, it's really awesome and has tons of fun games (many of which have been ported to Switch, to be fair, but the dual screen play is still absent there). Companies need to figure out some kind of future-proofing for online games, but as of right now, I doubt they'll ever bother.
I've had my Wii U hacked since I got it, and the homebrew has only got better. I'm worried things like Pretendo aren't going to be robust solutions in the future, but I guess it's still better than nothing (thanks, Nintendo).

This makes me so sad. I have so many good memories of using the Wii U video call feature with my cousin, who is now basically excommunicated himself from us.
I miss the Wii U, to say the Wii U doesn't deserve the hate it gets would be an understatement.
I hacked one of my 3ds systems (A New xl model) and every day I'm more grateful for making that decision.
ZombiU still holds a special place in my heart, it was unionically a pretty great game.
As someone who already did this months ago, I would advice everyone to use a 64 GB SD card instead of a 32 GB one, since I used a 32 one the first couple of times and it failed to backup the NAND because the actual capacity of the card (29 GB) was smaller than the NAND file size (29,7 GB) lmao

I think the best use for hacking a WiiU is for DS games. thanks to the game pads touch screen you can play those games on the TV WITH the original touch screen controls. Something you cant emulate on anything else.
I'd be happy if Nintendo released their ROMs on steam with games to buy legally to run on emulation software.

I am so glad I played around with a hacked 3DS before it went down. Managed to use the glitches in Pokémon Red to get a shiny Mew from Gen 1 all the way to Switch.

Ah, my first ever self bought console. I will never forget the happy memories I had with my Wii U and it's purpose for allowing me to play Pokken Tournament.

I want to get cemu to work on my mac so I can play some of these games, I was never allowed to have a Wii U growing up and really want to play Splatoon 1, even if it'll be harder to queue with Pretendo.

Instead of watching the solar eclipse, I played mk7 online at the last minute. I mean yeah they were royally kicking my ass, but it was worth it. No one was playing cod zombies, unfortunately
You wanna know what's crazy? Both the PS3 and Xbox 360's online multiplayer are still going strong. You can just fire them up and a good chunk of games still have playable servers, although not many people still play them!
And the Nintendo Fanboys will still defend Nintendo, no matter how much they crap all over the consumers. It's a skill, really. I loved free internet PS3 days
I think the biggest problem with the Wii U was how they marketed it. Like the tablet itself was the console even though it was the controller for the console with that tablet quirk. The actual console itself had such a boring design no wonder all the main imagery for the console stems from the tablet controller.
Its name made no sense either, if they dubbed it the "Nintendo Duo" or "Nintendo Sync" to push the tablet and console connection than that would've been so much better

Hacked mine back in 2019 for botw. And for both Metroid prime games. i made the assumption that papa would say it was ok eventually. The only weird thing is the circuits will tend to trip and shutdown the console if I start emulating while the gamepad is charging. Nintendo safety protocol I guess.

I still love my softmodded Wii U, best way to play randomizers of the DS Pokemon games (sadly Black&White don't work because of DSi integration and nobody ever solved that), and Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii U is always a classic.

Imo no company would just take the loss of indefinite multiplayer servers up for no financial benefit, nor does modding in peer-to-peer support functionality for a practically dead console's games; even the goodwill won't generate any meaningful income vs the cost associated with doing it.
The one thing that would rub anyone the wrong way justifiably so, would be if they ever deliberately halted the independent/open-source development of such multiplayer systems when said game franchises wouldn't be remade/remastered so there wouldn't be a potential financial loss to begin with.
