    for screen removal see:
    • Hp 15 Notebook PC 15 f...
notes: use toothpick push in screw hole on bottom base with "keyboard emblem" to help start keyboard removal.
top case was kinda hard to remove - after loosening the top case with guitarpick/credit card on edges, you have to kinda firmly pull up on the right hand side(cd-rom side) of top case because a strong tab is holding it still.
the cpu is soldered in and cannot be removed. to remove cooling fan - just remove the 2 silver screws and connector.
the black keyboard connector/lever was kinda hard to flip up had to use two fingers to flip it up
use this guide at your own risk.

Lot of trouble to swap out a hard drive. HP could have made it easier. But you sure did help. It's those flat cables that drive me nuts.

Thank you so much for this video. Yours is the first video that I have found that provides the level of detail in each of the steps--that is very necessary--to accomplish a fan replacement. As it was, before watching your video, I got all the screws except for the shiny flat screws under the optical drive. They didn't even register in my mind as something that needed to be removed. Those shiny screws, though, one fought hard to stay in place. It took two of us and a pair of pliers to mangle that third shiny screw out. Thank you again!!

imissmydog PJ it was not my laptop that i needed to take apart, and i normally only work on desktop computers, but i was fixing it for a buddy of mine who already took it to a pc repair shop but they did not fix it properly. after learning how to properly take it apart, thanks to this video, i fixed the issue (a bad hard drive) and now it works as good as new. just because someone might not know how to take apart every laptop case does not mean they have to take it to a "pro" to diagnose and fix a simple hardware issue.

I took this kind of computer to a repair shop and was told it didnt look promising to attempt a repair as no power was going into the machine using an adapter. Using this guide I took the laptop apart and retrieved the hard drive, so not a total loss. Are the parts worth anything?

If you didn't find out by now, there is a latch that must be flipped. It looks like it is part of the socket that the ribbon cable runs into. The latch runs the full width of the ribbon socket and is a different color than the actual socket (I think blue on mine, but his looks black. If you watch closely, you can see him flip it.). It needs to be flipped (I think up). That will release the ribbon from the socket. There are a few of these latches on other ribbons also. Just make sure to fully seat the ribbons and latch them when reinstalling. I just upgraded to an SSD and had to take mine apart. I also removed the optical drive, bought a cheap caddy to take its place and put the old HDD in place of the optical drive. Now I have 2 drives. Works great. I use mine for media viewing/ listening a lot. It will use the SSD for the boot and apps, and the HDD for the media. It opens the programs almost instantly now.

Heart of the cards. A screw under the laptop, releases it. Then stick a paper clip in the small hole in front of the drive. Pop it open and pull it out completely.
