Pia is water. Catriona is fire.
Pia has this quiet and resilient spirit. I admire her strength amidst all the bashings that she got. Like someone looking fragile and precious, but someone you cannot easily break. A quiet but nevertheless firm strength which makes her exude class, grace, and elegance.
Catriona, on the other hand, is fire. Bubbly, confident, and charming. She puts whatever is on her mind into reality, and is not afraid to speak her mind and express her creativity.
Both queens, but are also very different.

Pia will be my forver love. Leading up to the competition, nobody believed she could win. She joined 3 times before winning. She was also heavily body shamed, people called her fat or huge as a wardrobe or cabinet. When she appeared on Showtime nobody cheered for her. I love Cat too but I feel like Catriona knew how to use social media to her advantage and had the performance to back it up. In interviews, Pia always says that during her time although social media wasn’t as huge yet, she would rarely use it because social media at that point wasn’t a factor for judging. She “knew when to peak” and that was during the crucial moments and mostly behind the scenes of the competition. And with the final answers, I still memorize every line of Pia’s answer. It was concise; she gave concrete actionable steps, and actually ended up doing it. She also has a knack for ending her answers with a bang. Catriona’s answer was descriptive and really evokes emotion. She paints a picture with her words. For me, Catriona is that lofty woman you aspire to be. But Pia is the one you want to get to know more, be friends with, you feel like you can chat with her for hours, she’ll give you advice like a big sis. She’s relatable and approachable.

As much as I adore Catriona and obsess about her walk and her style, my heart still goes to PIA. I love how truthful, elegant and poised she was amidst the criticisms. Her beauty is just UNIQUE and REGAL. She has this very QUEENLY aura about her. Even the way she carries herself in front of people screams QUEEN.

Fun Fact: Pia didn’t actually know what her final dress looked liked, until it came to Vegas only a few days prior to the finals night. All she knew that it was blue! 💙✨

That's true! during Pia's time, it did not have the liberty about what they're wearing in the competition but then Pia insisted on having Blue gown to the director. So with Catriona's time, i thought she was given the freedom to be creative because the gowns and customs of the past Binibinis' before her, had received criticism that those were not Filipino made and they were obnoxious. SO YEAH!

Pia was actually the very first Miss Philippines who had 2 different evening gowns while competing for Miss Universe. Her red preliminarily one, and her blue one for the actual finals! Because the MUP titleholders before her only had 1 final gown...

I like pia more than catriona because I feel that Pia has always been a miss universe even after her reign, she still does a lot of things in the pageant world, she's more active on social media talking about her causes and doing several charities and sharing about it. After all these years, she's still on her A game. I love Catriona as well,cat definitely is an incredible person and does several charities as well but Pia's presence and motivational spirit on social media is so much stronger and I love her for that. She's truly a people's person.

Pia is a queen. She's regal, calm and pretty. We didn't expect her to win and we're surprised w/ her performance. Cat is a princess. She's elegant, bubbly and cute. We had expected her to win because her potential is not surprising. Both are beautiful in different ways.
I love them both and I'm so proud of them, but Pia's winning has the most impact on me. During her reign I was even called Miss Universe by the the American people in the Homeowner's meeting.

Pia is my all time favorite. Up until today many people bashed her, but what can they do, she's a QUEEN! 3 attempts to win, her motivation and perseverance lead her to the crown and they stole her crowning moment. I felt bad for it.

personally my favorite is Catriona.I adored her eversince miss world But on MU She broke boundaries and she was a creative spirit , she was so hands on and she got every detail planned. I heard she was an independent candidate during her pageant and when she won she had her own team to support her , her national costume is one of the most unique the phil ever had in years and most of all she made herself a brand of excellence and creativity. that's why I love her!! hahahha

I’ve witnessed both of there journey at Bb Pilipinas Got the chance to meet them in person but personally if I have to choose one I’d go for Pia for me personally Her journey in clinching the crown was more heartfelt and challenging knowing She had to join 3 times this is just me again nothing against Cat but I just loved Pia’s innocence and of course that fierce SMIZE is a total signature of Hers! 😎

For me i was watching live at Planet Hollywood at that time Pia won and i was sitting besides of the family members of Mexico and Argentina contestants but they actually shouting for Pia. Even after the crowning was over and i was waiting at the lobby most of the Latin countries were talking about the Philippines. But anyway comparing the two Miss Universe i'll go for Pia overall but Catriona is really well prepared for the MU pageant.
I actually asked myself if who will be my ultimate bias between the two but every time I look at them and look for their strengths, Pia have something that Catriona doesn’t have and vice versa-from their face, body, uniqueness, performance, advocacy and all BOTH ARE BEAUTIFULLY STRONG. But when it come to their face, Pia’s beauty is queenly regal and Catriona is “princessly” pretty. Both are fierce and elegant tho. Love them both. I can’t compare them both with each other anymore because of that facts.

Catriona. Never been a pageant fan, but Cat elevated the standards of what a 'beauty queen' ought to be. Her performance , style, qualities has now become the gold standard of present and future title holders. She is a total package , from her authentic sincerity which you see from her posts and events, natural beauty, eloquence, wit, charisma, creativity, talent..you cant help but be a fan of her. She is stunning yet so simple in life..I admire her post reign..her sincerity in helping kids is just outstanding! The best ever MU for me.

My favorite is Pia because I am a super fan of Filipinos who fluently speak their mother tongue. Pia represented Cagayan de Oro and she fluently speaks her hometown's language (Bisaya). Pia is also culturally VERY Filipina. She's a devout Roman Catholic. Catriona represented my home province, Albay especifically Oas but I NEVER heard her speak any of the maaaany languages of my region (Bicol). She speaks English and Taglish.
lester andes Catriona was born, live and spent her Childhood in Australia,as like any other people including you would probably speak the language you were used too. She moved in the Philippines later on her adult age. However,she tried to speak tagalog even if she struggles a lot but she’s trying, but She represented the Philippines with so much pride, love and knowledge about our country more than the previous candidates who were born and speak our native language. Pia of course,she live in the Philippines ever since although going back and forth but more on her childhood and adult age is in the Philippines, so she can speak Tagalog/ bisaya naturally as her 1st language.

I do think that Pia is the best Miss Universe. She is active in doing the duties that a miss universe should do during and even after her reign. Pia, for me, also have a better miss universe journey than Catriona. Catriona already had the fame and was a really heavy favorite when she competed in binibini and miss universe. And that fame, admit it, became one of the factors that dragged her towards the crown. On the otherhand, Pia's journey was intense and surprising. Fame was not much a contributing factor on her victory. You could really feel the intensity and excitement when she competed. Though they both competed with determination, I can say that Pia was the one who really competed with full motivation. Dont get me wrong. I love them both.

I am not saying that Catriona did not won without making an effort. My point is that Catriona was already famous even before her foot touched thailand and that is one of her edge.

Short story: I joined a short comic competition here in the Philippines and it was about portraying Manila in the future. No kidding, I binge watched Catriona Gray videos on TH-cam and listened to songs from the Miss Universe 2018 competition to ignite my patriotism!! Cat sparks a wonder in me for the Filipino culture. I'm not a Filipino, I'm a Malaysian and I believe that both queens are undisputed Asian pride.
They have showcased that Asian Miss Universe are not only beautiful but also versatile.
I love both of them but my favorite Queen has always been Catriona.
I've been so much in awe of her elegance since the Miss World days (lets not get further on that note).
And when she decided to join binibining I was like "WOW, she's gonna grace the stage once again".
And when she won, it was, of course expected. But when she won Miss Universe, for me that's such a magical moment.
I wholeheartedly believe she deserves to win, despite South Africa being a great competitor.
Why was I surprised that she won?
Eventhough I was hoping that she will win, I was ready if she couldn't get the crown because we all HAVE SEEN REAL QUEENS GOT ROBBED.
For me, it was hard for her to win, that time, not because she isn't great enough, but it's a one woman destiny. Only a woman can win the tittle.
Not to mention, considering Pia just won the crown for Ph after 42 years of waiting, I felt like in 2018, other country will snatch the crown.
The logic was, its not gonna be easy for the MUO to crown a lady from the same country of the previous winner in the short duration of time. But universe works in mysterious ways, Catriona won and she indeed deserves it.
Now I have the same respect towards Zozibini. Just imagine, Demi Leigh won in 2017, Tamaryn Green did outstanding performance in 2018, so I think it is hard for SA to find a lady of the same calibre.
But Zozibini thrived.
Now I love all queens.

Both women brought honor to the Philippines but if asked who is my favorite? It would be Pia. Her win is unpredictable. Such a beautiful surprise for the Filipinos. She really knows when to surprise us during the competition. In addition, Pia has an inspiring life-story. Triumphant. Though she won 2015 she still has a connection with the Pianatics. Hosting Christmas parties and meetups. Very humble.
Catriona is no surprise at all. We know already that she will win it. And, that just about it.

Cat is stylist, and all her answer are almost same, except the top 5 answer, as question is different and definitely a tough one.
But on the other side , pia is a queen indeed, her all answer are so perfect and so on point.

Some say Catriona is well-spoken, Pia is street-smart/witty.
Both ladies are amazing, I should be more biased to Catriona as she’s from our region, not to mention how she's very hands on to every details during her journey in the MU competition, especially the lava gown, but I really admire Pia more for so many reasons. One in particular was during the coronation night. When Steve mistakenly read the card wrong, she remained humble and she handled everything well, I can’t imagine how hard it must have been. Also, during Pia’s Binibini competition, she was also bullied since it was her 3rd time joining the pageant and several people have been criticizing her body too, but she just really worked her hardest and I guess she really had the desire to win the crown, as the last Miss Universe crown won by our country was during 1973. Her answer during the last question is really remarkable too, simple, concise and has an impact. It’s one of those MU answers that I can still remember. Even her answer showcases her funny personality: “I would like to show the world…the UNIVERSE rather…” It was also amazing how she pulled off different hairstyles during the coronation night, she had her hair down at first, tied it up in a pony tail and then made a lower bun for the final look, the blue gown looked beautiful on her as not all can really pull off a blue gown.
But anyway, it really depends as to who between the two you mostly relate to. I do agree with Sierra’s comment, both are incredible, inspiring in both ways.

Truthfully, I am not an expert in pageantry. I only watched few videos about them both how they performed in MU competition. Somehow, someway, I personally feel Pia has become a phenomenon and she is the first lady that appears in my mind when I see or hear the words “Miss Universe”. She didn’t have to try hard to perform on the stage. She made the dress she wore alive, she gave them the regal spirit. Her stare was the most powerful and she was all graceful. Too bad there was a mistake of announcement of the winner and the situation was difficult for both Miss Columbia and Pia herself, Pia was a victim she didn’t deserve to be. However, she was all humble to receive the recognition and ultimately the crown. She’s like a sister anyone would hope to have. Cat on the other hand, everything seemed like easy games for her in the MU competition. She’s a smart, brilliant, outspoken, beautiful and sexy young lady.

I was blessed to meet these 2 queens in different timelines and countries. Pia in 2014 post bb. Pilipinas and Catriona in Burlington, Ontario (2017) when she had a charity concert here. They're both amazing.

Ha ha. Cat is just 3 months after reign. Yet, she has already sang with singers like Martin and Regine..both legends in the industry. Done talks with Charo Santos and Boy Abunda , two respected individuals. Been a cover of numerous magz. Her book and more others will be coming soon. She has the most followers of reigning Queen in IG thats is 9m to date in instagram , covering only 1 year and 3 mos. Im not even mentioning endorsements here. I guess amazing for just a 3 montha post reign.

Catriona was the well prepared contestant in the history of miss universe competition. Catriona works hard in every single details and not just won the crown only by luck,but the muo just wasted her reign.

During Pia's time everything from national costume and gown were pre approved by the head of Binibining Pilipinas. Pia didn't even know what gown she's wearing until the day of. The only thing she requested was it's done in blue. Cat was given free reign to do what ever she wants. Both came prepared for the Q&A, but Pia gave 2 outstanding and very memorable answers, with a catch phrase "Confidently Beautiful With A Heart". Cat had an iffy answer in hers first, but gave a very good answer in her second.

Pia worked hard to achieve that figure for the competition - minus the boobs coz its genetic. Catriona made sure that she will win MU taking the inspiration from MW 2016 loss.
In any case, all MU winners took the time to preprare for the competition in order to win.
