Yeah. So many facets in the protestant sphere. Then you have the liberal / traditional splits within each denomination. Can't really have a blanket conversation, it's a tough climb
This is the first time I've ever heard of Redeemed Zoomer. As a revert to the Church of 13 years, after 45 years as a Protestant and 40 of that in ministry with emphasis on Apologetics, I'm familiar with most well known Protestant Apologists (and most Facebook and TH-cam ones) but he is utterly unknown to me. Does (or did) he have a website or something?
Yeah, if you want Protestant apologetics you should check out Jordan Cooper, Gavin Ortlund, Anglican Aesthetics, or Javier Perdomo. I can appreciate why RZ felt the need to do it, because compared to RCC there are so few who are doing it really well.
Actually on the way down South, there were many remote areas in Alabama and Florida where the only churches for 60+ miles were: Assembly of God, Church of Christ, Pentecostal, or IFB.
It is a noble concept to try to capture traditional/conservative churches and share that with American Christians to guide them closer to the truth... but to say they 'still hold to orthodox teaching' is not accurate. The fatal flaw of Protestantism isn't that they've culturally retreated, it's that they don't have the fullness of truth to embolden them in a culture that challenges it (and I say this as someone raised in Protestant denominations and strongly preferring them over Catholicism for 27 years). Redeemed Zoomer - remember in the next step of your journey that your commitment should be first to truth, then to restoration of institutions. Don't wear yourself so thin on the latter that you abandon the life-sustaining reality of the former!
I could be wrong but I think RZ is selling himself short. He's incredibly smart. He does great in debates too. I think it seems to him like he's lacking because he has a huge amount of Protestants that circle around his discord hubs, and yeah, many do go to Catholic and Orthodox etc.. so for him it could look like he's explaining things wrong and people are leaving. He really isn't. He's doing a great job.
To what redeemed Zoomer said. If smarter protestants are critiquing him why does it mean that these same people have to start TH-cam channels themselves? I don't really understand.
@PhillipCummingsUSA I don't agree with some of foskey's views he's a Baptist pastor who is a calvinist and he does do some quality podcasts with clergy from other denominations discussing differences in Theology and church practices . but he also does some really really funny interdenominational short videos. For those not familiar, usually they're centered around an interdenominational meeting, and he sort of pokes good-natured fun at what you would call the stereotypes of each denomination. The bow tie is worn by the Presbyterian character who smokes cigars, drinks whiskey, and his catchphrase is that they have "Superior theology."
Dropping your sola scriptura deboonking video at the same time Zoomer publicly abandons Protestant apologetics is divine providence - it won’t be long before he comes home to Rome.
The problem is Protestantism is to general of a definition. You can't defend Protestantism as a whole because there are so many different ways that it can looks like. You have to pick a specific denomination and defend that just like catholics do. I was a new Christian and open to be a Catholic and ultimately it didn't make sense and was convincing I don't think the Catholic argument is a good argument so I'm not a Catholic and by default I'm a Protestant. I don't consider myself a Protestant though and I could defend Protestantism as a whole and I don't think anybody could. I go to a Presbyterian church but even disagree with some aspects of that and don't entirely agree with RZ.
Yup. Protestantism is an umbrella. It’s hard to defend such a nebulous idea. Most Protestant apologetics are just general low level “mere Christianity” type of apologetics. Whereas Catholics and Orthodox are laser focused on their specific denominations.
That’s because in reality there is no such thing as Catholic or Orthodox or Protestant. Jesus said you are with Him or Against Him, and it’s that simple. There were many denominations of Jews among Jesus Disciples and followers. John the Baptist was considered an Essene, Simon was a Zealot, Paul was a Pharisee. The entire point of the Gospel is that anyone who accepts Jesus offer of salvation can repent and be saved. Jesus was Born of a Virgin, was Crucified upon the cross and whose Blood was shed for the Remission of all sins, that He was buried in the earth in a Tomb, and that on the Third Day He ascended to the Right Hand of the Father to rule in all Power, all Authority, and all Glory forever and ever. That’s the Gospel. The real church met in members homes and did communion at their dinner table in Acts. No Basilicas or Chapels or altars, literally rich and the service was dinner at a neighbors home. Everything beyond that is people not God.
Most Catholics consider Presbyterian or Calvinism to be their idea of what it means to be Protestant. Before that previous splits retained sacraments and liturgy.
@@Charity-vm4bt usually when I see Catholics attack Protestantism it is almost entirely the new age rock concert evangelical Church's or ND. But they don't label it as that they just talk about Joel olstien and how bad he is and how that's Protestantism
I would have prefer short explainations in the beginning, bc I don't know what happened. I had discovered faith very very recently (I was believer but didn"t knew what faith is). I was on the verge to converse to orthodoxy, but now I'm strongly catholic, even if I disagree with papal politics since Vatican2
Well there a reason Redeemed Zoomer was alone is that many (or even most) Protestants don't do apologetics against other forms of Christianity. Because we're not huge into kneecapping the body of Christ just because we disagree on a few tertiary points.
I think he's opening his heart to the apostolic churches(hopefully he becomes eastern orthodox) Edit: before you reply to me ask yourself if your priest would approve, go to Church.

"Protestantism is in a bad state" "Protestantism is a joke" as stated by RZ. And EO and the RCC are not in a bad state? All churches and denominations are in a bad state, which is actually a very good apologetic argument for protestantism. Half of RCC does not agree with each other (liberals and trads), EO does not even have systematic theology so laymen don't even know what to believe. The outcome of this is that Christ is still holding His Church together, but its always a 'core' of actual believers. The 'invisible' Church as protestantism would call it. This goes for Protestants, Catholics and Orthodox people. So. Stop fighting, and let us rejoice in Christ, the works the He did for us and let us praise God together each in our own traditions. (I can't even become a serious Catholic in The Netherlands, those churches are completely empty and liberal. Orthodoxy also does not even exist beside some very cultural communities)
As a laymen Orthodox I know just what to believe and what to practice. That's a silly argument. Not having a systematic theology does not mean everything is up for grabs. The Church is indeed a visible organization, not some invisible core. God can miraculously join people to the Church even if they are not part of it, but that doesn't mean the Church is invisible.
Orthodox Churches are shockingly uniform across the board. Greek, Russian, Antiochian, etc it’s all the same theology. Laymen absolutely know what to believe. What a silly statement.
@@EpistemicAnthony I love how all the converts to EO claim this. You probably know 90% more on EO, Christianity and theology than people who where "just born into" EO in e.g. Eastern Europe, which is the majority of EO members.
The common ground as Christians...we are all baptized into One Church...one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism...and that Church is given the authority to teach and preach by Our Lord.
How tf are you Orthodox but have the username St.Irenaeus?! 😂 St. Irenaeus totally and utterly believed in the Primacy of the Church of Rome and his writings are incredible proofs of Catholicism.
Very much felt what you said about some of us needing to shut up sometimes. I'd like to be able to say I've been on both ends of that, being the guy who opens his mouth when he should be silent, and recognizing when I should remain quiet. Low-level theological debate is dominated by Protestants/Evangelicals because they're going to have a higher minimum knowledge of Scripture than that of Catholics.
Novus Ordo parishes are not that bad. Some might seem a little cringe coming from a Latin mass perspective but nearly all of them are reverent. They are more reverent than 99% of protestant services. You almost have to look to find a bad one.
I generally agree. The worst thing about NO parishes that are pretty ubiquitous are Eucharistic ministers (male or female), and females in the sanctuary (altar servers, lectors, etc.) Otherwise, you really need to find an abhorrent one.
The sermons are alright (quite out of touch, but they mean well, which is more than you can ever really say for the Anglican hierarchy), but the liturgy is impoverished, even compared to High Anglican ones.
To be fair to redeemed Zoomer he planted his flag on a hill that was already taken by the enemy. Don't be too arrogant the key points of the catholic hill have also been taken. Most of catholic apologetics now is coping with the pope, which is one of the biggest differences between the Orthodox and Catholics.
Having a conservative Pope would make a huge difference. It’s hard to recommend Catholicism to people when it seems like the higher ups within the Roman church don’t even take it that seriously.
All denominations have serious internal problems as all are under constant attacks from 'secular' forces within and without. However it would be correct to say that the Protestant churches were formed out of wrongness and to wrongness they belong.
2 months later, RZ still making content. you guys seriously need to stop thinking in terms of "Catholic" and "Protestant" as that's obviously not the dividing line. The line is how seriously you take Scripture. I am a protestant, and I have a fantastic example of 2 people (who are "good" Catholics, who do mass and whatnot the whole shebang). One of those will not enter purgatory, he will go straight to hell. The other will go to heaven (eventually). I'm talking about the Daily Wire hosts Matt Walsh and Michael Knowles. Matt Walsh's entire online persona is characterized by being a judgmental person. So, he doesn't take the command "judge not" seriously. Also he believes in the idea of an "old earth" because he accepts the scientific evidence for it, and he also believes the existence of extra-terrestrial aliens despite there is 0 scientific evidence for it. That means he doesn't take the Bible seriously as it is fundamentally opposed to both of those ideas, and the aliens idea is a bit offensive because it betrays a will to believe things that are not scientific, but that will does not extend enough to cover the young earth as is written in the scripture (he probably calls it the "holy scriptures" despite his actual beliefs being contrary). On the other hand you have Michael Knowles who's entire online persona is that of restraint. In a Christlike way, He believes that the one whore has changed her ways despite other Catholics insisting she's lying. If someone says something that he'd disagree with he'd probably say something like "well, I'm not sure about that!" The transformation of someone from death to life is innate INTERNAL. Humility is necessary and foundational. Without humility, works are dead being alone. How exactly do you expect to gain "humility" without God spiritually changing you from the inside? It doesn't happen. People seem to be able to control very little in their worlds but everyone seems to be able to control their beliefs at some point in time. So, seriousness of the scripture is an excellent litmus test for if someone is truly saved or not.
It is contradictory for RZ to say that he wants to work on getting the lesbian pastors out of his church and then turn around and say he likes Pope Francis for accommodating modernity.
What do you even mean? Pope Francis took heat a couple months ago for saying there's too many "f****ts" in the priesthood and no more SSA should seek ordination. What is contradictory?

Bro I have never heard someone call in RZ, I only see ppl type it, also he keeps going from beard to no beard over and over again
Well there a reason Redeemed Zoomer was alone is that many (or even most) Protestants don't do apologetics against other forms of Christianity. Because we're not huge into kneecapping the body of Christ just because we disagree on a few tertiary points.
The God we worship as christians is not the same as the god muslims worship

Only classical Protestants should considered Christians, the rest follows some sort of mysticism and mindfullness
Not even classical Protestants can be considered Christian, since they are deep in heresy and error

Their interpretation is off
Novus Ordo parishes are not that bad.
What works of Pesch deal with protestantism? Are they available in english or German?

If someone says something that he'd disagree with he'd probably say something like "well, I'm not sure about that!"
The transformation of someone from death to life is innate INTERNAL.
