Actually this song was written by Bobby Russel, a Nashville songwriter. He also wrote "The night the lights went out in Georgia", and was married to Vicki Lawrence. He passed away in 1992. Percy Sledge did this tune long before Buddy.
Great song been looking for "Sudden Stop" since the '70s. Live version was very good but album version is excellent instruments can be heard better. Good soulful R&B track should've been single.
