Buddy Miles and his band members rock finland in 1971 join other Buddy Miles Fans to discuss on the official Facebook Fan Page www.tinyurl.com/BuddyMilesFB
I was in a 9-piece horn band that was doing Chicago, Edgar Winter, and several of Buddy's tunes - this, Changes, We Got to Live Together, and Take it Off Him, and several of us saw this band at Seton Hall University in April of 71. They were so freaking excellent - tight, funky, driving tunes played with great musicianship. These clips are a great testament as to just how good this band was live. I was a fan of the bassist Bobby Hull, who played with a rock style but with excellent articulation and a nice even tone that added great groove. S'Alright !
David Hull for as young as he was here. Think he was like 17 or 18 just killed. His ear was incredible to harmonize some of the missing horn parts. Especially when he did take it off him like he threw in the trombone part a few times just a bad ass in general played with Aerosmith a few times filling in pretty sure they all grew up together
I am 57 years old. When I was a teenager in Detroit I had all of Buddieeeees album. I remember looking at da pitchasss on tha album cover. It is a PLEASURE to see the pictures of band members that I recognized come to LIFE!!!! .
Buddy Miles and the Buddy Miles Express were among the best live acts I have ever experienced...... the album Buddy Miles Live ranks among my top 5 live albums ever..... If you can find this precious double-vinyl set, buy it no matter the cost. You will thank me later, it is damned near the Perfect live album. I bought it just after it came out, and it gets played in this house at least once a month since. This performance is worthy of that.
@@pabloalvez915 true dat but the funk had not hit 'em yet back then. Now it's a different story; there's some really great jazzy funk coming outta Finland. Check out Bentality and some of the bans he performs with.
Buddy Miles and this band is incredible; the musicianship is so together; I was 13 when Them Changes come out in 1970 and yes I bought and still have them album; I listened to it all them time. this video is great; wish the musicians could play like this today. this music is timeless and can't be touched.
It's nice to see that only people who appreciate real music have rated this video - it should never have more than zero thumbs down. Great, GREAT stuff!!
Hahahahaha... I see what you did there @toneyisaiah3556. Nowadays there is great funk stuff coming outta Finland. Buddy and the band were planting seeds.
These members are well known to Buddy Miles fans as appearing on the Electric Church LP as the Buddy Miles Express. After Buddy went solo for his "Them Changes" LP, the band made one further LP as the "Freedom Express." The Electric Church was produced by Jimi Hendrix. The famous Buddy Miles song "Them Changes" was written on the "Electric Church" sessions with guitarist Jim McCarty who appears in this video, but was not released until the "Hendrix Band of Gypsies" Live LP on Capital records. Jim played with the original Detroit Wheels group of Mitch Ryder and then with rock powerhouse, Cactus and later, The Rockets with Johnny "The BEE" from Mitch Ryder's Detroit Wheels on drums!
I attended a concert around this time. On the bill were PG&E, Buddy Miles Express, and the headliners were the dead. The venue was evacuated after PG&E's set by a bomb scare. The paying audience returned after the all clear. The ''groovy'' dead had already split town but Buddy hung in and played a long killer set wearing a NY Rangers road sweater. The dead had always been too ''hippy dippy'' IMO but after that evening I would cross the street to piss on them if they were on fire.
Bobby Pickett, Drummer17562: The guitarist on this is not Jim McCarty. Also, Drummer, the guitarist on the album version of 'Them Changes' is not Jim McCarty. Not a problem; just letting you know.
@@BluesHawk.11 Cool. The guitarist on the album version of "Them Changes" was Wally Russumolo; the guitarists on this video are Marlo Henderson and Charlie Karp. Charlie was my older brother. He also co-wrote this song.
Thanks so much for posting this! Love Buddy Miles and this song in particular, great composition so cleverly and uniquely arranged. Still have it in vinyl.
I saw this band in the late 60s in a small club in Rochester, NY. Jim McCarty was spectacular on guitar and the band was great. If you like this, check out Electric Flag (with my guitar hero, Mike Bloomfield).
buddy was an agent who went on tour for that great Jewish producer and received $35 dollars, he had to take his manager to court, the producer is the same one of Whitney Houston and others, I was watching american greed last night and it was talking about the manager of backstreet boys, and n sync and take 5 and again the management wouldn't pay, I suggest they pay with their lives, please don't support the corporation that buys music or steals it and treats their musicians like slaves, randy signed with Band of Gypsies 2 for a world tour but somehow his wife killed herself which lead to his depression, and he breached his contract, coincidence? i doubt it...
This improvised, televised performance sounds infinitely better than most albums I’ve heard.
The soundman was fantastic at this gig!
He wa on point!!!
A very young David Hull on bass.
Wow....

@@jerryvivanco4352 you're wrong. There were plenty of Hippies and Freaks in Scandinavia in the late 60s /early 70s.

excellent count by Dave Hull! It was 1971, not 1976.
Is very fun .....i love
kids used to listen to good music at that times haha
Gawd, how can [bassist] Hull look so cool?
Audience participation. That’s the front man’s job. It’s a common thing to do. But he does it so well.
I'm clapping my hands, Buddy.
And yeah, I feel like dancing.
Be sure to check out THE ELECTRIC FLAG!!!!
Mos Def killin' it on the trumpet yea boyyy
I have to bring out they are in Finland in the 70's:D Only people really looking cool were the heavy metal fans...
Impresionante cómo sonaban estos muchachos!!!
My mom!!!
Is that James Gadson drumming?

Q FIESTA!!!
Just saw the post below. Now I'm not sure if the guitar was McCarty or Karp. Both were great.
Douglas Wolkin Charlie Karp on the Les Paul & Mario Henderson on the SG
excellent count by Dave Hull!
Nice music, but that audience looks like they got their fashion ideas from Jack Webb ant-drug films.
