    You are such a cute couple. This was so educational. I was in a mixed marriage for almost 25 years (differences, nothing to do with our skin color). We were blessed to be in the military and traveled around and learned about many cultures which I think was so helpful for my children. I love the way you guys are teaching your children. Your love for each other and your children shine through. God bless you both

    Love love love this video, Robert Smalls and Beaufort!! we live in SC also. Love camping at Hunting Island. My daughter picked R. Smalls to do her report on in school. He fought for his freedom and his beliefs and showed his love for people. He had a big heart moving in his ex-masters wife in her old age taking care of her until she died. That showed what type of man he really was. Love this video!!

      +Amber Canaan that would be awesome. We live in Aiken. Maybe we could do a play date sometime. The trick for no misqitos at Hunting Island it to camp right off the beach so there's always a nice breeze to keep them away ;)

    Love this! I was raised in the 50's and 60's and when the schools first intergrated I was nervous because of my ignorance.
    I was in the 2nd grade. But soon absolutely had a fantastic friend that I wanted to be like because she was tall and could
    play basketball with the big girls and I was extremely small and could only do granny shots. Lol. My mother told me when I was little that there was no difference and one of her best friends had brown skin and my mom loved her curley hair and she
    liked my mom's white skin. So she tried to make my mom's hair curley and mom tried to make her skin white. They were friends for many, many years (obviously since the girl that was my best friend was the daughter of my mom's best friend.
    I want to thank you for this vlog because it makes me feel so peaceful. Don't know you, but love you anyway.

    I love you guys!!!! Your video was such a blessing to watch!!! So much in it! I loved the statement that we are all brown just different shades and I am going to use the term HUMAN when asked what race I am ;-). Such wisdom throughout the video. The love and respect you show each other was very inspiring! I hope you two make more videos!!!! Also, Mike, I read your article regarding Robert Smalls. Excellent!! What a great man he was!!! Thank you for sharing it. God bless!

I loved what Michael said about all of really being the same skin color. Just different shades. That is true! We love genealogy too! My husband is mostly from Irish descent. Love your answer about us being one race. If aliens came from another planet to earth, they would be another race. Another thing, when you spoke about us being brown, I remembered studying Adam in the Bible where the word Adam means "a reddish brown" color. Very interesting.

I have found all your videos inspiring... but it's nice to see a couple doing things together. I often imagine what life will be like when we finally retire and can spend more time together. ;) love the message for your kids as well. you're doing it right.

    But seriously, this was a great video that I just happened to run across. I too am from S.C. currently living in killeen texas where i go through some form of racism every other week. It's so sad and disheartning as I get older it seems like it's more in your face than anytime than i can remember in my life. But I love all people no matter what skin color they are. God is good to all, because i know when we all die and stand in front of our lord Jesus Christ , our skin color won't come into question! You guys keep doing what your doing please, with lots of luck and joy. Stay Blessed.

    THANK YOU, FOR EXPLAINING THE COLOR ISSUE..I TAUGHT THIS TO MY GRANDCHILDREN, I SAID BASICALLY, WE ARE ALL
    A PART OF A RAINBOW OF MANY SHADES OF COLOR THAT GOD CREATED...HE LOVES US ALL THE SAME...
    MY WAY IS DIFFERENT FROM YOU, BUT WITH THE SAME MEANING. NO HUMAN BEING IS ANY BETTER THAN ANOTHER IN ALMIGHTY GODS EYES..THEY ARE TO RESPECT THEMSELVES AND THE DIFFERENCE IN OTHERS, WHEN IT COMES TO THE
    WAY OTHERS LOOK...
    BUT, WE ARE TO RESPECT OURSELVES AND OTHERS.."PEACE AND LOVE"

    Great video guy's!
    I'm a black male. When I was in the second grade, our American (cult)ure was already kicking in.
    My teacher (in the eyes of a little child had to be someone's Great Grandmother LOL).
    14:44, I called her "white" one morning. I have never forgotten the reality check she gave me, that changed my life.
    She used your exact example but with a black chalkboard and a white piece of paper.
    To this day, I can still feel her gentle hand holding my little arm to the chalkboard and the paper to her face and arm.
    To this day, I still tell that story to people who struggle with being segregated from ourselves, as human.
    I personally call it a cult... with ties and tentacles that run awful deep. Psychologically it can be invisible to some.
    Liked and subbed :)

    Very cool video. I like the part toward the beginning when you both talk about seeing people looking in public and not worrying what they may be thinking or feeling. I'm that way most of the time, I typically don't worry about what other's may think. For one, they probably don't know me and I probably will never see them again, so what does it matter. Second, I can't read their mind and I have no idea if they're thinking something positive or negative about me, so why assume? I've said to people before who've complained about what some stranger was thinking about them, 'Who cares?! Maybe they weren't thinking something bad, maybe it's actually something good."and often the reaction to my comment is that I'm out of touch with reality. Well, if being out of touch means not being concerned or upset about what someone else MAY or MAY NOT be thinking, then I'll live in my dream world. At least I'm usually content and happy in my world! Also, thank you for the history lesson. I was not aware of the 'one drop rule'. It's not that I'm uneducated, although apparently I'm out of touch (haha). I guess because I grew up in a small, rural "very light brown" community, I had never heard that before. And I agree, it is something people need to drop if they are still in that belief. It's sad when our society seems to want to move forward and then continues to hold onto past beliefs like that.

    Sometimes people look and are thinking 'cool' but can't say that because it may sound like they are patronizing you. When I was young it wasn't common to see interracial marriage. But as it has become more common people often don't even notice. You look like a happy couple and that is what matters. Years ago I was taught that the color of our skin is dependent upon the amount of melanin we have. Love the way you explain it.

You two are very well rounded and have a lot to offer the world. I pray that you two would do many more vids together and that you would speak to the brand new couples who don't have a clue regarding marriage and the many things young couples will face. You two have a very special connection and communication, and I pray that you would continue to let your light shine for the glory of the kingdom of God..... God bless you both!!!!

    I just love this video and your upbeat positivity! I'm not in an interracial marriage, but I couldn't help but comment, because my husband and I have adopted our two children from India. We got them as babies and now both of them are pushing 30!! You are a beautiful couple and I agree with you, that we're all human!! Why does there have to be racism to begin with?! It's a horribly sad way of thinking. When our kids were babies, they were the most adorable little humans ever!! I think that that's a lot of the reason why different ones just melted! People loved them and they still do. We had our babies in with our small town school system and all those kids and parents, and we think that that made a big difference too. Our son farms full-time with us and he is accepted. We have a lot of Mexican people in our area, so that kind of helps too. Good luck to you two! You deserve a beautiful life! I have to say too, that I know this doesn't make any difference, but I'm actually related to Abraham Lincoln and I know you guys would love him too! = )

    • @AmberCanaan727
      @AmberCanaan727  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's so awesome that you're related to Lincoln! I think that racism is just a result from sin entering the world and the fall...and one day we won't have to worry about any of it anymore! We will get our happily ever after :-)

    I'm a 45 year old divorced Nigerian-Canadian man. I don't have children,a Christian looking for a wife preferably not from my ethnicity in Canada or maybe the USA. I'm worried about my age and finding a woman who could stl have and really wants to have children. I'm worried about fitting g into her crowd if age gap is huge like 8-10 years

    Funny story relating to #2: I am in a biracial relationship. I'm white, husband is hispanic. I was in Wal-Mart one day shopping and my toddler had started pointing at babies and naming them the color of their shirts. "Bluey baby!" as she points to a baby in a blue shirt. "Greeny baby!", pointing to a baby in a green shirt... can you see where this is heading? My sweet lil' darling, points to an african-american child who is wearing, yes, a *black* shirt... "Blackie baby!" I respond, "Yes honey, that baby is wearing a black shirt :)" ermahgash.
    So you're right, it isn't always about your skin color, even when it sounds SO MUCH LIKE IT IS. And yes, I was mortified ;)

    You guys are a fun couple, you'd fit right in at our home get-togethers. My wife and I are both of the 'human race', she just happens to be Korean an I'm African American (found out recently of Mali, Italian and Polish decent). We also live in the south, have been married about as long as you have, and we also no longer notice people looking. My mother told me long ago that when people look don't always assume they disapprove (and that shouldn't matter anyway), they also look because we're just a unique couple or because they see that we're enjoying that moment in time together. She also said that as long as the person you choose is 'in your corner' then I'm in her corner.

    Relationships are hard enough. Being in a interracial relationship can be even harder. I'm a African American male and it is difficult to establish a relationship when the person your interested in is only interested in what your like in bed. Unrealistic expectations can kill a relationship.

    • @AmberCanaan727
      @AmberCanaan727  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm...sounds like you might want to look at a new approach to relationships. I know it is so easy in this day and age to jump straight in the bed, but if you want a woman who is about more than that, take a different approach. Sex can wait until later, much later! If the woman won’t stick around and get to know you, she isn’t worth it. It goes both ways.

    I had to stop at about 14 minutes in. I have only dated outside of my race. I am a black man writing from my band's page. I once was married to a white woman, from New Hampshire, and I believe ethnicity is ultimately what broke us up. I'm down in Georgia, and travel to Columbia often for my band. Check us out at the Art Bar, when the pandemic is over. I basically grew up in a part of Atlanta, that is all white, and pretty affluent, yet I know not everyone has the same opportunities in life. Whether based on ethnicity, social status, or education level. If not by the grace of God, there's goes I. I can firmly say that no opportunities came to me or were given to me. What I have is, because the Universe/God, allowed it to happen. My name and my accent say I am Asian, so I get plenty of interview calls. My experience is different in that I have never dated within my ethnicity, and I'm 43. Maybe because I'm not the stereotypical black man. I play punk rock and ride skateboards. More of an intellect than a sports guy. Would rather be outdoors, maybe in the woods, than what I feel people expect (without knowing me). Anyways, this subject has played a major part of my life, so it fascinates me. I even wrote a song about it called Tragic and Misunderstood. th-cam.com/video/Q9SZlypyK-4/w-d-xo.html
    Also, the history part. It should be called American history, but African American History has notoriously been left out, or taught in part from a skewed perspective. Even with the facts presented, there is still what society and cultures thinks. That's basically what we are talking about, social issues.

    I do have a question for yall though... how do you feel about organizations that are for African Americans? not like the NAACP, but for example, on a box of nursing pads I had when my daughter was born, there was a number for an African American breatfeeding hotline/helpline. And I thought, that's strange... don't their ducts work the same? so I mean things like that or Miss Black USA and stuff?? I've just always wondered why they exist and have never been brave enough to ask anyone... don't want to offend or anything ... hope I didn't :-/ just always been curious..

    • @AmberCanaan727
      @AmberCanaan727  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Stacy Bentley That's a great question Stacy! I'm going to let Mike respond to this one, I'll post again with his answer when he has a chance to send me one...

    • @rolandixor
      @rolandixor 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Stacy Bentley not directed toward me and I'm not even from the US, but I'll just offer my 2 cents.
      These organizations (such as the NAACP) exist because of the historical exclusion and oppression (some still exists today, though not always blatantly) of "black" people in various aspects of society.
      As for the hotline - baffling. It might actually have a racist background to it - in that it might be an assumption that black women need some kind of "extra help". Of course without further info it's hard to tell.
