    I love these videos. I'm a mental health professional. Could you create some content to clarify the neuro aspects of psychosis as it relates to antipsychotics and regular drug use (spec. cocaine, meth)? I believe the dopamine connection could be one reason we see such a high rate of dual diagnosis of severe mental illness and substance use disorders. It could also explain why we see such little relief in symptoms when antipsychotic medications are taken alongside these specific drugs.

    high dopamine leads to low prolactin and vice versa, so does that mean a nursing mother shouldn't be very happy because that will reduce lactation? please correct me if i'm wrong. i'm confused.

    • @MedicosisPerfectionalis
      @MedicosisPerfectionalis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you explain more...Is your question about high dopamine level leading to suppression of lactation?

    • @sitinurusaadahhamzah4694
      @sitinurusaadahhamzah4694 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MedicosisPerfectionalis Yes exactly. Did I understand it correctly?

    • @MedicosisPerfectionalis
      @MedicosisPerfectionalis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that’s why bromocriptine (dopamine agonist) can inhibit lactation (at least theoretically).
      But the mother being unhappy won’t help, to the contrary.

    • @TheXtremeDrums
      @TheXtremeDrums 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Happiness is correlated with specific neurotransmitters including Dopamine and Serotonin however this neurotransmitter increase takes place in specific regions of the brain associated with emotions... For dopamine to inhibit prolactine secretion, dopamine has to be in high concentration in the pituitary gland (or the correct precursor or agonist should arrive in the blood).
      So a ''natural'' feeling of happiness in motherhood should't affect lactation because these biochemical changes are mostly local (this could also explain why we can't see psychiatric disorders, with today's tech at least, in blood or urine tests).
