As a Benfica fan, it was devastating to see Rui Costa leave for Fiorentina.. but him and Bastituta were magical together. Roma needed Bastituta and they got him; it’s where he truly belonged.
Roma was no better than Fiorentina. They had won only 1 league title till then unlike Fiorentina which had 2. He went to Roma because Fiorentina needed the money. From 2000 to 2001 they sold every major player in a clumsy attempt to save the team: They sold Toldo, Batistuta and Rui Costa for over 80 million euros (crazy money for the times) but the team unfotunately bankrupted anyways and got relegate to the 4th division in 2002. A real shame for a team that could win the title just a few years before... Batistusta-Rui Costa-Edmundo upfront and Francesco Toldo as goalkeaper, pure magic !
You are doing very well with these videos as I’m 37 & from Jamaica 🇯🇲 where 1998, I was in high school watching Batistuta & Argentina demolish us in the World Cup, it was fun though as it was our 1st time & playing against one of the Greatest South American sides, I remember Baptistuta’s name rang in that match…thanks for the memories 💪🏾👊🏾
The penalty that he scored against Jamaica in that match is the hardest I have ever seen anyone kick the ball the net almost split apart. As a Jamaican I was worried if.Barrett got a hand on that.
Great video about a truly great player. I went to Argentina in 1993, and on my first night-a rainy August night in Buenos Aires-I turned on the TV saw Batistuta play for the national team. My two favorite players became Batistuta and Redondo.
My favorite Argentinian player, together with Redondo. Every Argentinian striker that came after him cannot compete imo. Great personality, so humble and yet deadly when it comes to scoring goals.

He is not a forgotten man, despite not playing for a Man United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Juve or Bayern. He is always spoken about in the highest regard, by pundits and football fans the world over. If you watched football in the 90s-00s then you are very familiar with Batistuta and how dominant a striker he was. Defenders and goalkeepers hated the sight of him. He was tall, strong, tenacious and he was a great finisher with either foot and in the air.
When it comes to legendary strikers Batistuta rarely if ever gets mentioned. I grew up watching the guy and he was the complete centre forward, he had everything. Truly world class.
Bati-goal. He was amazing for Fiorentina, making a average side capable of competing with far bigger teams. He could have moved to virtually any club, but chose to commit to Fiorentina even after the club was relegated which has made him a legend there. This is when he was performing amazingly for Argentina as well.
Lots of 90s kids idolize n love him like any top players as Ronaldo, Beckham, Zidane, Maradona n so on He like doing it hard way so he didn’t prefer top clubs and performed high class in Roma and Fiorentina mostly
What a phenomenal footballer, athlete and human with a real heart. I have no Argentinian background but I'm falling in love with the country! Lol I really hope the legend Messi brings the world cup home to Argentina!
I had no idea about his love and faithfulness to Fiorentina. That is a touching story. And, the story about the pain in his legs after his retirement was also touching. I'm glad he was able to find a good medical solution along with prayer.
And talking about the handball in the 1995 Copa América, let's not forget that Argentina also won a World Cup earlier (Maradona's famous "hand of God" against England) because of the same thing...
When he was in front of the keeper there were two options: either he would destroy the hands of the keeper with his shot, or the ball would simply go in. Sometimes both things could simultaneously happen.
One of the greats that didn’t get as much attention as many others did, my team is Fiorentina I was fortunate to see him play for many years, just a great player.
Batistuta, what a legend! When talking about greatest strikers ever, his name rarely gets a mention, which is absolutely criminal. His partnership with Rui Costa was frightening. They were as good as any striker partnership ever.
He always got a mention as one of the best of his era Now if he's put in a class below Pele, Maradona, Romario, R9, Messi, and CR7 then that's understandable
when I was schooling he was my favorite player, since I live in Sri Lanka we didn't have club football coverage, so I was able to see him on TV when the world cup came or on highlights.

@@diegodilberto4218 👏👏👏t'ha' fatto bene a spiegarglielo, anzi, spiegàglielo.
🇯🇲
Thank you for this beautiful documentary of my favorite offensive striker of all time and the great story telling
Damn its so hard to find players like this again.
I watched him play for Argentina. Thanks so much for this video. Never knew his story. It made me wanna cry at the end. Keep up the good work. He was really amazing.
The player who made me love the football game. I remember playing on the street, writing his name on back by marker and play as a striker. Wow 🤩
Wow what a great story about a great man presented so well and respectfully. Thanks for the video, i feel the salt water well in my eyes.
Still my favorite footballer til now, and one that made me liked football. Great personality for all i can remember.
Not forgotten at all. My favorite striker of all time. Got a chance to watch him live playing for Argentina and Fiorentina. El batigol/ re leone!!
Always great documentaries, well edited top class football journalism.
This guy is the reason I love football. My all time favourite number 9
I remember playing pes 20 years ago.. batistuta, ronaldo n roberto carlos was always my 1st choice in team building
+ Adriano. Canon all the way.. 🤣
Same!
Great story taller, Thank you for doing this !
What a player , Fiorentina had a great team back then , Balbo Rui Costa and Batistuta up front, loved watching them🏴
Same thing with Alan Shearer. PL's all time top scorer but he never played for any of the big 3 of the time.(Man U Arsenal Liverpool).
But he won a PL medal with Blackburn.
@@frannyp46 yes he did. And THAT is amazing! It only happend because of him in front.
What about Ryan Giggs?? he was at 1 club for his full career fair enough it was Manchester United 😁
Vardy came close.
Nice video man, you always present every footballer and it's story in a special way. I think Filippo Inzaghi desevers a video you should add it tou your plans, anyway keep up the good work🤙🏻
So glad he got his legs sorted out - I heard that quote about amputation and nearly cried myself
Keep up the good work mate
As an Englishman the hand of god aside I've always loved the way Our South American friends play.
He makes me proud of being called Gabriel
An unreal and rare breed of player that just doesn't exist in today's game....that's all that needs to be said
He is not a forgotten man, despite not playing for a Man United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Juve or Bayern.
One of the best scorers I saw playing. He made me mad many times in Copa America scoring against Brazil.
Bati-goal. He was amazing for Fiorentina, making a average side capable of competing with far bigger teams. He could have moved to virtually any club, but chose to commit to Fiorentina even after the club was relegated which has made him a legend there. This is when he was performing amazingly for Argentina as well.
What a great video about a great player i never knew, i felt you are telling the story with passion, keep it up
Everyone that's over 18 and likes football knows who Batistuta is.
one of my favourites from my generation! what a player he was. Shame players now days move so quickly from club to club.
Love Your Channel. Keep It Up!!!!!!
thank you for doing this one , i was waiting , you promised and .. you did. Keep the great work .
I emailed you requesting you to make this video on Legendary Striker GABRIEL BATISTUTA (BATIGOL)
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO ON MY REQUEST 😊👍
He was an immense striker
batistuta was my dad"s fav player . its sad i couldnt watch him play in his prime
Thank you so much for putting this together. I loved watching Batigol.
Lots of 90s kids idolize n love him like any top players as Ronaldo, Beckham, Zidane, Maradona n so on
He like doing it hard way so he didn’t prefer top clubs and performed high class in Roma and Fiorentina mostly
What a phenomenal footballer, athlete and human with a real heart. I have no Argentinian background but I'm falling in love with the country! Lol I really hope the legend Messi brings the world cup home to Argentina!
Batistuta is not Forgotten he is a legend. Best Argentine striker in my own humble opinion.
I used to revere Batistuta in the '90s as a kid. Super-enigmatic.
I had no idea about his love and faithfulness to Fiorentina. That is a touching story. And, the story about the pain in his legs after his retirement was also touching. I'm glad he was able to find a good medical solution along with prayer.
Much respect to this warrior. This is what true passion means.
I miss that time what a striker probably the best... Deserved more with Argentina... Amazing goal at old Trafford.. Wow
And talking about the handball in the 1995 Copa América, let's not forget that Argentina also won a World Cup earlier (Maradona's famous "hand of God" against England) because of the same thing...
He is a legend.....One of the greatest
My favorite soccer player I love this guy very humble
Great video! Now you have to make a video about Rui Costa…
I love your football documentaries. Thank you, and keep them coming, please.
When he was in front of the keeper there were two options: either he would destroy the hands of the keeper with his shot, or the ball would simply go in. Sometimes both things could simultaneously happen.
Excellent player Batistuta. Great video!!
Happy to see batistuta finally! Can you do one on Ortega
He always got a mention as one of the best of his era
Now if he's put in a class below Pele, Maradona, Romario, R9, Messi, and CR7 then that's understandable
Rui Costa was a #10 not a striker.
when I was schooling he was my favorite player, since I live in Sri Lanka we didn't have club football coverage, so I was able to see him on TV when the world cup came or on highlights.
Argentinian legend Gabriel Batistuta sir,you are my footballing inspiration but I was in tears to hear the final part of the video of yours!!!Please take care of all of your parts of your figure and hopefully, you would be a footballing manager as soon as possible, sir!!!LONG LIVE GABRIEL BATISTUTA SIR!!!🏋️♂️
