Please don't call Twitter X. But yeah for the most part I enjoy Splatoon because it's so unique in its own front, the whole map control aspect especially. I find though that if you slow the game down in your mind it can really help. Taking those few extra seconds to get more information is what has led to me dying less and getting more ambush kills on unaware opponents. I'm glad this game is chaotic (chaos did win the splatfest after all) and watching the EU champs this year there were so many amazing matches. Some really clutch moments where it seemed odds were all against you and anything could happen. This is why I love Splatoon!

i think the sensory overload is a necessary evil with shooting games like splatoon. there are so many techniques and gameplay styles that exist and being thrown into the high paced gameplay can be overwhelming. i think a lot of that could be ratified if the game had a Vs ai mode like overwatch does. That helped me adapt to that game a lot. I still get sensory overload when I return to it, sure, but it eases you back in. Splatoon you’re thrown right back to the wolves. It’s rough
Also loved the subtitles! Made focusing on what you were saying a lot easier as I get distracted sometimes while watching videos

“shooting games like splatoon” the term is movement shooter. splatoon is straight up the only competitive movement shooter out there and its extremely unique for that

Yea I was able to get use to everything in the single player but my poor friend couldn’t enjoy that mode much. So, she had to learn all the motion control, game mechanics, and maps with me talking to her all at the same time over online turf matches xd

as someone who also has adhd, playing fast-paced games that require quick reflexes and taking in a bunch of information at once is one of my strong suits. i honestly wish I had found splatoon earlier. I think the insanely fast pace of matches isn't bad, especially when they only last 5 minutes at a time. I'm actually kind of grateful when I die because it gives me a chance to enter a battle from a new angle. it's all how you look at it honestly!

I certainly don’t have adhd but I’ve got something. I struggle with the fast paced chaos of online matches. Salmon run was a hit for me in splatoon 3 since it’s open all day and much much easier.

As someone who has been playing vanilla splattershot since launch and is glad to see it in top tier now, trizooka was ALWAYS like this, but crab overshadowed it. If the team I’m playing against is prepared, then it usually comes down to either one kill then the rest avoid it, or no kills and I wasted it, and the one person probably has tacticooler buffs.

    • @ethanb9981
      @ethanb9981 ปีที่แล้ว

I remember back when zooka was bad I heard some people say it had a high skill ceiling and that’s nothing but true. It took me a WHILE to get used to how the curve works. But once I DID, I could more accurately hit people, especially behind obstacles by shooting at an angle upwards. Now, that might seem overpowered that it can shoot people behind walls, but it is VERY finicky, usually it hits the top of the wall and doesn’t count or goes past. Not to mention I don’t know where people are so the few times I HAVE hit someone behind a wall has been dumb luck for me.

    • @ethanb9981
      @ethanb9981 ปีที่แล้ว

If you ask me, the most fair difference that should be made is how slow the shot is. Maybe slow it down by like 15%-20%

I did notice that when i didnt play for a while, i had a really hard time coming back to the game with the same comfortablity i left it with. It was like my brain needed to relearn how to sort between what info i can be aware of and what info i can glaze over. Im a comp player, been one for 2 years. And jts still the same

Splatoon definitely overloads the heck out of me. Everything happening in the game from objective, knowing where my teammates and the enemy is, as well as vc if I'm playing with friends and trying to speak, listen, and think about plans while everything is happening. It's definitely fun but it's also very frustrating from time to time. I still love splatoon tho it's just im pretty slow sometimes and indecisive in a game that has things happening in a split second.

My personal experience is that if anything Splatoon 3 is actually the shooter with the least sensory overload I have played. I have a big problem with my bad reaction time wich makes it hard for me to fight back when a player or an attack suddenly shows up on screen without me being aware of it. But I personally don’t feel like it is that hard to keep track of most things at once. Though I also have over 1100 hours in Splatoon 3 and about the same in Splatoon 2. I previously had played Fortnite and Overwatch as my only Shooter experiences. Though Salmon Run can become overwhelming if there are too many Salmonids on the map at once. But I beat HLM many times before nonetheless. I am undiagnosed but I am likely autistic. I am more of a completionist than a competitive player the only reason for me to play on a higher level is for a badge or to mark of a checkbox rather than some kind of glory that comes with it. I just like working towards insane goals for no reason other than because I think I can.

this is one of the most untalked about deficits of being a comp player, and is next-to-never acknowledged when its assumed that you're supposed to be able to read map calls, vc calls, your own surroundings, teammate and opponent positions, map and objective niches, players struggling / thriving, even which aspects to call out in itself (and more), there's lots that's behind the competitive mindset in this game and an interview or a faq with someone that thrives in the overstimulation could help many see this concept clearer.

I'm glad you brought in the added pressure of the discord call towards the end. Calls give me more stress than the game itself does, but the combination of both can be overwhelming for sure. I tried competitive splatoon very briefly during the late Splatoon 2 phase but quickly dropped it due to the added layer of pressure added by calling. I only play X rank and sendouq without calling now, which helps me do better.
I'm interested that you brought up Mario Kart. I've been playing competitive MK8DX for about a year and a half now and communicating in a team of 6 is possibly one of the biggest challenges I've had to face socially even if it's in a game, and my team is still aware that sometimes I have to go muted for a while to avoid my mind breaking in half or just to start playing better. while there may be some mental factors involved I think playing any team game competitively is very challenging (for some people more than others).
I agree with the reasons you raised for splatoon being a hard game to cope with at times but I don't think it's linked to trizooka or any other singular thing.. ultimately it's the players who put pressure on themselves by choosing to play in call and trying their absolute hardest to not die, and being hard on themselves for screwing up.

Its a small dumb thing, but the ink bullet splashes when they hit the ground are way too big in this game. I instantly noticed the difference during the tutorial and found the splashes distracting. Its nice going back to 2 and not have the ink bullets do that so intensely.

Yeah it’s a bit much sometimes. Like I often times lose track of someone I’m fighting as we’re moving around, only to find myself splatted a couple seconds later, especially if I’m fighting multiple people at once, which is annoying, but it’s overall not a deal breaker.
I do have more fond memories of Splatoon 2 than I have of 3 so far tho. That’s not the reason but I guess it’s interesting to think about.

Mental Stack is a big thing in basically every comp game
In Guilty Gear, no good player is going to get hit with charged dust, unless they're too focused on everything else to react.
My personal thought is that Zooka's individual mental burden is too high.
It's one thing if a player gets caught off guard by a clever flank or a well placed charger,
but when zooka provides such an overbearing mental load compared to everything, with all the "where's the carbon"; "where's the vshot"; "how close is each player to special"; "can I go behind cover fast enough if someone presses LR", ect. The pressure the special can provide through merit of existing, let alone when a player is ready to use it is overbearing.
After a while it's nowhere near as interesting to see "oh another zooka". It's less interesting to see a big play when you know how easy, inevitable, or OP it was imo, even if the person doing it is skilled.
Combine this with cooler to make these inevitable deaths almost meaningless, and a lot of the hype is gone for me.

The chaos is part of the fun! Play a turn based strategy if you want to calculate every move. I totally agree it develops fun competition and exciting/unexpected games. Trizooka is great right now, people just find it the latest thing to complain about. Splatoon has main weapons that one shot, this is a special that enables three chances for that. The combo damage is just that too, a chance to combo. It enables different weapon roles to dip into other avenues of attack momentarily that helps diversify playstyle and break up game flow. Like you said, you will get splatted in this game plenty. It's nowhere near as oppressive as crab meta or missile spam was.

  • @Galiaverse

Zooka is a solved problem in Splatoon 1 that the devs forgot to apply; it needs to be reactable. Being able to go from 99% special meter to 100% > R3 > Zooka in sub-30 frames is too extreme. They've been careful to give most other specials ample start-up time relative to their power, so why did Zooka get the pass?

    • @ethanb9981

Mental Overload is awesome and I love utter chaos in games (which was technically the theme they were going for) which Splatoon 3 does very well but I don't consider Trizooka to be a part of that factor. You mentioned how the biggest factor is how it impacts competitive players by getting kills you can't prepare for, but it's also worth nothing that all in all Splatoon 3 is still a game people play to have fun, and as a basically entirely casual player, random unavoidable death is not very fun. Well, unless the random unavoidable death is fun-ny, but in this case it's not.

I struggle when there’s a lot going on. Them spreadsheets are impossible for me to read since there’s too many lines and letters. Grid patterns suck. This game is super difficult with bombs, 7 shooters spraying and praying, and all those eliter lasers. I can’t process enough in a pvp match to improve anymore. I’ve hit my plateau for now. That’s why I’ve done so much salmon run. Instead of random nonsense it’s more big blobs of salmons that’s easier to follow. Still difficult but high level salmon run is easier than mid level ranked games at least for me since it’s slower paced.

i mean if you die by a trizooka too bad just respawn
its not as if the trizooka is an easy one shot kill, most of the time its your fault for being positioned poorly
yes even if youre behind cover there of well known behind cover places that can be reached with a trizooka that you should be careful when youre in it
people complaining about dying from out of nowhere is like whining about snipers, its your fault for positioning poorly
