  • The P-40B by FMS is an outstanding warbird. Beautiful fit and finish for a foam aircraft coupled with good quality servos and gorgeous 90 degree retractable landing gear and a tailwheel that tucks into the fuselage. It handles super well and has very few bad characteristics, and it's capable of being flown on 4s power setups.

    Some lovely butter landings in there despite the obvious conditions!

    I'm just memorized by the P40 in the air, split flaps dropped, in a forward slip, gracefully floating (or fumble-fu

      Happy to help! It's second only to the FMS Tigercat in our view.

      Oh, that Tigercat is some kind of magical. But, it's just so damn BIG!
      Soon as I've got a bigger house, she'll be tops on my list, too ☻ 👍

    Great review Jon, thanks!
    Does the battery try need any modifications to use 4s 3300mah (as needed in the E-flite P-51 1.2m)?

    • @TwoBrosRC

      It shouldn't need any modifications to fit a larger battery. It should be able to take up to 5,000 easily.

    Did you try landing without flaps? I think it has too much lift.
    I have a Flightline Spitfire and it behaves similarly with flaps - without them the landings are much more predictable (less floating around and wing rocking).

    • @TwoBrosRC

      There's almost no wing rock at all when it isn't turbulent.

    See this happen on landing with my e-flite 1.2mm Corsair, on windy days flaps no flaps she wants to lift back up and down usually have to go around a couple times to bring it down good video thanks. ☺🛩🛩🪂👍👍

    I crashed my p-40 last Sunday flying in crazy wind. I jammed it back together and flew it again today in crazy wind but on 6S and it flew amazing lol

      Did you change the motor or esc to fly on 6s. I don't want to burn them up?

    • @DownNDirtyRc

      Nope. I ran a watt meter on it to make sure it wasn't over amping anything. The stock prop assembly can't handle the RPMs from 6s though. You have to change to a regular 2 blade. I've run mine on a 14x6 and a 15x6. It gets a little warm on a 15 but that was running like 80% full throttle lol. Normal flying of mixed throttle it was fine

    My FMS P40 that I purchased a couple months ago takes HV packs with no problem. I think you may have a bad ESC in yours.

    • @TwoBrosRC

      Ours takes them but thinks they're 5s packs.

    You mentioned settings, can you share your settings for this plane please?

    • @TwoBrosRC

      There's no special setup here. It's a basic aileron flap airframe.

      It's definitely got a mean look to it.

    I'm always blown away by how archaic the flight controllers and radio protocols are in the scale model hobby. Coming from highly customizable iNav and Ardupilot flight controllers, Crossfire and Express LRS radio protocols just frustrates me. It feels like being thrown back to the bronze age.

    • @TwoBrosRC

      Not really sure what that's got to do with the P-40, but we'll take your word for it.

    • @JPspinFPV

      @@TwoBrosRC It doesn't specifically have to do with your channel, and I definitely don't mean any disrespect. I'm just a bit taken back by the propriety in these models when you can have so much more control over your build on other platforms that come in at the same price points, and have better performance. Especially in radio protocol technology. Less fail-safes is a no brainier for anyone who's destroyed a project due to lost signal. On the flight controller side, having full control of each function instead of relying on the manufacturer to set it up out of the box is a very powerful tool. A manufacturer could just as easily apply these settings to an iNav compatible FC for instance, but still allow the customer to make changes. It is £ for £, $ for $ the same. It just feels like Spektrum has this side of the hobby convinced it's the only way.
