    Believe it or not, it was a lot worse a few years ago. The university has rebuilt a lot of areas as shown in this video. I went to Temple about 20 years ago and lets just say it was a bit of culture shock for me back then but it forced me to grow up quickly and learn how to live in a major city.

    To all the emotional bottom feeders who think CharlieBo's videos are about race: for the love of god please go somewhere else. For me this channel is an understated form of documentary. Charlie demonstrates enormous discipline by not offering subjective commentary and I respect that beyond words. These videos are chronicling America as it exists today. Their value will persist for decades. If you don't like them then I ask you politely, please project your self-loathing and misery somewhere else.

      It's amazing how much energy people spend trying to surreptitiously promote the supposed superiority of White people/culture and then say it has nothing to do with race. This guy is not-so-cleverly trying to make a statement with pictures that would be manifestly racist if made with words, which explains why there's no accompanying speech to the video. ... There's also a reason why this video is not presented as a continuous, un-cut trip. It never shows more than a single block at a time and jumps great distances, sometimes miles, between one edit to the next. That is because often he turns the corner onto a pristinely maintained, well-kept row of homes that don't fit into his nefarious narrative. To those not intimately familiar with the greater Temple community, it's easy to believe this video shows the entire area surrounding the university. But while you could circle the immediate outskirts of the Temple campus on foot in under an hour -- probably 30 to 40 mins. -- you could not even cover the contiguous areas shown in this video on foot in a single day, they are that far apart. ... The entire residential area represented by this video covers tens of thousands of streets and blocks and hundreds of thousands of homes, the vast majority of which do not look like this video, which shows about 1 pct of the community. ... This just shows the desperate levels Whites will go attempting to denigrate Blacks, and to promote the feigned supremacy of having White skin, evidencing a seeming inferiority complex.

      At a similar neighborhood , while I was at lunch , someone by himself ran off with a 44 foot wooden extension ladder out of the side yard of the house I was working on. Now What was he gonna do with that?! It's always the same - these creatures are opportunistic - if it ain't tied down , steal it THEN figure out what to do wif it. Like an animal foraging for food. My car was stolen one night when i attended Temple, the Philly police called me around 3:00 am and said that they had recovered my car (didn't even know it was stolen), and to come pick it up. I started walking down the street, got a few blocks from campus and said to myself i must be crazy. Turned around and went back to sleep. Police called again and said i had to come now cause they had so many stolen cars and no place to put them. By now it was getting light out so i said ok. Got there, they didn't even ask for any ID, the cop handed me a screwdriver and showed me how to start it (the ignition column was cracked open). It was broken into so many times after that when i graduated i took the license plates off and just left it on the street.

    Dude, I see poverty, not GRIME. You are an ELITEST to call it a ghetto. I see people trying to make a way out of no way. People talking, riding bikes colllecting trash , looks real normal to me. I grew up in the streets of Philadelphia lived off campus at 17th and Columbia. and was lucky enough to be smart enough to also get a scholarship to Temple U, (73)and was able to, now that I am a PHD, give a substantial gift to the university that gave me my start so that some other "ghetto" kid like me can go to the university that engulphs their neigborhood without reaching out to them so it can truely be the people's univeristy . Dont 'DIS North Philadelphia. They raise their children, do their work and get on with their lives. Be happy that someone paid for YOU to be a student (if you are or were one) You need to reach out and make it better. Dont build yourself up by trying to take away the dignity of others. You got to to better, man.

    Three generations of black southern migrants have lived in these poor communities. The first generation was one step removed from the ravages of slavery. Today, many in the following two generations have become first generation college graduates and professionals in every area. These professionals proudly visit friends and family who have been left behind. They drive expensive cars when they visit, but they do not think they are better than those who didn't make it; and they are politically ambitious and contemptuous of other groups who try to prove their lives do not matter. They return home to their middle-class black or mixed communities, and pave the way for those who will eventually follow their success stories. These people are not eternally destined for poverty and ignorance; they are advancing generation-by-generation.

      The point of the video was that some of the worst looking slums in the country are literally a few blocks from Temple, and they are. those areas are not where students live. there is actually a pretty sketchy public housing project right across the street from part of the campus, but there are so many campus and Philadelphia police patrolling the are it's pretty safe.

  • @NikkiGloom
    @NikkiGloom 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The housing areas of Philly, 80 percent of the houses in the city have never been reassessed so you're looking at houses that have fallen into ruin, of 85k to lots that go for 150k and a little more. i moved into a house near Dmed, and the lot had a store and house. my landlord had to buy both and it had massive water damage. Lot of these houses are Section 8, sheriff sales too, in East Falls that area where the train passes and the high rise condos went up old textile mill houses a bunch were sold for fucking 10 bucks. So its not always the tenant's fault for upkeep, its the city lagging its feet. @datboiwest333 is correct Philly is extremely old, these were cobblestones dirt roads and the city budget is shit to fix.

    • @CharlieBo313
      @CharlieBo313  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You're completely wrong, and I'm black. The video is intended to show some of the worst looking areas near Temple university, not necessarily one continuous block. Most of my videos are like that. You're reading way too much into this. I just film mostly run down urban areas as a hobby, and for documentation purposes.

    • @ronaldpeden
      @ronaldpeden 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't care if you ARE Black! The fact remains, what you're not-so-cleverly attempting is a demonization of Black men and a promotion of White supremacy. Your "it's just a hobby" explanation is a bunch of crap, and you know it.
      Dumb White people who don't know the neighborhood may be fooled by your fake innocence, but not me. I'm a Temple alum and I know my way around the entire area. I'm neither shamed or impressed by your cowardly "documentation."
