      Ditto.... They always talk like it's so "confusing" & how they don't like it... But I think it makes things way more clear & definitely really awards the gymnasts who try harder skills and routines over those who play it safe.... I like it too!

    the commentators complaining about the absence of the 10 obviously don't remember all the 10's that didn't deserve 10's.

      And when they complain about the newer scoring system where "there is no 10 anymore," they fail to ever really acknowledge that YES, you CAN still, in theory, get a perfect 10 for your Execution score. Which, really, with how insanely difficult the routines & vaults are today- a 10 for the E score seems even more unobtainable than it was in the old 10pt scoring system... I just like how the new system explains more, gives more credit to athletes attempting harder things, and there's about 50% more potential points to score- so a simple 0.1 step on landing or 0.1 or really, even a 0.3 step on landing or out of bounds isn't NEARLY as much of a travesty as it used to be when one tiny error like that in even one of the 4 apparatus can take you out if medal contention completely... Seems like a much more fair & appropriate way to score things if u ask me!!!!

    It's so weird to hear them all complain about there not being an all around in the American Cup anymore when that didn't happen, and of course, we've seen an all around competition every year since. But then to hear them all complain about the new scoring system that was to begin...it hasn't made the fans feel disconnected. We've all just adjusted, and gymnastics has gotten more popular over the years, too. It's just funny to see how unnecessarily dramatic they were being. ;D

    Justin Spring has to have the best triple back ever from the high bar. That was so high he could have flown out of the arena.

    In hindsight, if Sacramone HAD made the Athens team and Marta had used her on vault, floor and maybe beam, it would've made the 0.7 difference and earned the US the team gold. Replace Patterson's vault with her Rudi, Kupets's floor with her floor, and Bhardwaj's beam with hers, and that's over 1.0 more that US would've scored. Kind of sad that it didn't work out, then when Sacramone DID have her Olympic shot in 2008 she felt her errors cost the US the team gold.

      Agree with you for the most part except that Alicia's falls didn't cost the U.S team the gold in 2008. If you put the deductions back into her scores, China still comes out on top. And that's because China had a huge lead in terms of start values alone.

    • @jorgebonilla2234

      @@gk891 That's why the OP said Alicia "felt" that was the case, as many did, even if not true.

      You are just assuming Alicia hits all her routines which is a big assumption. Remember Beijing and in 2004 she was a pretty big headcase in general.

    • @corymajor7811
      @corymajor7811 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@gk891 And why assume Alicia hits all her routines and adds all that potential score after what happened and in 2008. And while in 2008 she was generally considered fairly tough and consistent and her performances and even in prelims (where she didn't make any event finals besides vault) were considered a surprise, in 2004 was a big headcase in general.

    Everyone cried that the sky was falling when the scoring system changed. But the real result is that difficulty and execution now have parity with one another. A gymnast has the option to go as difficult as they want, taking the risk, or go less difficult and get a great execution score. More paths to greatness is NOT a bad thing. It also provided better parity between balletic gymnasts and the power gymnasts. The old system heavily favored the slim, graceful pixie types at the expense of the real athletic acrobats. And yet as all the experts are decrying the death of "artistry" (a subjective matter anyway), the sport is becoming more and more popular as daredevils can get the big scores and excite audiences rather than keep their routines simple because they are capped out at a 10.0 start value.

    • @kakumei77
      @kakumei77 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Matt Swann I just wish it was Difficulty and Artistry instead. Cause gymnastics since this new scoring 2005-2006, difficulty has increased but artistry is non existent at least after Beijing. Gymnastics needs another direction in 2017. The sport is "artistic" gymnastics. But it has rather become mundane cause all the routines are becoming compulsory. It's great to see difficulty like Simone but she is stiff. But remember difficulty and "daring" routines are frowned upon such as the Prudonova being de-valued now after 2016. That's where the problem is.

    • @neversaygoodluck
      @neversaygoodluck 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kakumei77 It should not be Difficulty and Artistry, because, that now would open the door to people pushing harder skills, without having to worry about technique, and that's straight up dangerous. You'll end up with more people trying skills like the Prudonova, a vault which apart from Prudonova I have NEVER seen landed properly. The problem with the code now is it can't find a happy balance to reward artistry. Like gymnastics would have way more artistry it was actually rewarded. Again talking away execution, promotes poor technique, which would 100% lead to gymnast chucking skills which is unsafe.

    • @Cmc995
      @Cmc995 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s called artistic gymnastics, that’s the title of this sport, if you can’t be artistic you shouldn’t be getting big scores, the code has devalued all the beauty and cool moves of the sport for stupid and repetitive moves like wolf turns. Everyone doing the same skills

    lol, this coverage was such TRASH. The irony is that all of the changes they were whining about would honestly make the sport so much more transparent for those fans willing to learn all the deductions and how a D-score is constructed, though the transition took some time. Al gave Elfi a softball here asking her to come up with ONE GOOD THING about the changes and she just continued with the same, unreasoned complaining. I appreciate that NBC is finally coming in the last few years more into line with worldwide coverages that don't treat the fans like we are idiots. We're talking in recent years about things like artistry deductions and dance elements now, and being more honest when skills don't meet the criteria of the CoP. I think it's still not quite where it needs to be but it's definitely moved in the right direction.
