    I don't think "The Ultimate Explorer Vehicle" accurately describes something limited to 5mph that pisses fuel on itself.

      if I was the original creator of this, that fuel leak would have given me a boner. I bet he keeps a tin funnel in the driver's side compartment to mask erections.

    It kind of reminds me of asking a friend to go backpacking overnight and they show up with the biggest backpack they could find and stuffed it full of stuff they will not need on an overnight trip, then twisting their ankle in the first 500 meters of the trip.

Maybe he could take this to the north pole and maybe into a non sandy desert. But bottom line is exploration should be on foot its personal. Not rampaging through everything with a chainsaw welding glorified camper van. I dont think he should regret building it, but If I were him I wouldve spent the almost 5 years of my life exploring the world not getting ready too.

      It's over complex for an exploring vehicle. You need/want something you can fix anywhere in the world. Its the same reason world touring bikes aren't made of carbon fibre and are usual steel. Sure they might be heavier and weaker but pretty much anywhere in the world you can find someone who can weld steel.

    • @Thomasm-x7r
      @Thomasm-x7r 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm pretty sure it's the kind of mobile science station that's supposed to be in a motorcade and not on it's own. You'd need a support truck. Maybe a recon vehicle ahead to make sure there aren't any low bridges or trees in the way. Just a piece of the puzzle, an overly complicated piece of the puzzle but a piece a of the puzzle nonetheless...

    This whole project/company is comprised of a culture/mentality that can only exist within a very esoteric infrastructure. Their entire thinking is so fragile "in Nature" because it is so far from the reliability and durability "of Nature". This luxurious "Think Tank" mentality is nothing more than a first world cocoon of the likes of Silicon Valley; a World within a World where only one is real and sustainable. Even the child lacks a true social intelligence. Bran Ferren uses technology as a means to tip-toe through life in hopes of making it "safely to death" This video is rather sad as it further depicts the insidious nature of furthering the delusion that "designing humanity" around technology is a good idea. The mind is a wonderful servant but a horrible master, indeed.

      Max speed 80 mph. You are not going to be breaking any land speed records with it. And if you are only looking at the materialistic aspects of it. Then you should probably stick with the (Name your vehicle here) and ignore this particular one, because about 90% of the instrumentation on it will have little or no meaning to the more domestic camper. While I agree it is an expensive toy, this is one that I would very much like to have. As a matter of fact I would take the kiravan over the most expensive RV on the market. If you are expecting luxury you will find It provides very little in the way of amenities but it more than makes up for in the sciences. Why would I want with something like this? Simple, you can't help but learn about the world around you when you have something like this to take out into the wilderness. On the other hand if you don't care about what is residing on the other side of the RV walls then this probably isn't really the vehicle for you. RV in this case means (Research Vehicle) It doesn't belong in a KOA camp ground or in some National Forest camp sight. This is for going out and exploring and learning and having the instruments to study and understand the world around you.

      It’s an amazing piece of technology. My guess? He will never complete it. For him, it’s about the journey to perfection, not the road trip.
      Also, that is not an expedition vehicle. Try a river crossing pulling that giant trailer (that has no drivetrain) and watch your Keiratrailer get stuck in the middle.

If you watch or read stuff from people who have actually traveled across Africa etc. they will recommend hiding things like satellite phones, taking off tall antennas etc. before crossing borders because they worry border guards and might make people think you're a spy or something. Now try taking this vehicle through those borders. Even Canada might think you're a spy with that kind of setup. lol There's just no way anyone will believe it's just a family camper and go "Oh, that makes sense.." :D

Reading the comments, some people think it's useless as a weekend holiday vehicle, and they are probably right, but there are applications that this thing is designed to dominate, and I think it would. Just one example would be to travel to remote locations for scientific research. I have been to a lot of places for work that I would have loved to have one of these.

    Stuffed with Hi Tech, but powered with primitive and obsolete fossil fuel based engine.
    There is nothing futuristic about diesel engine. When we run out of fossil fuels (diesel), this truck will become a pile of Hi-Tech junk. If you want to think futuristic, then design sustainable engine for it.
    Where are solar panels or foldable wind turbines? (or even small wind turbines installed in the carbody, so you can generate electricity while driving).
    All surface of it could be covered in newest Hi-Tech, photovoltaic panels.
    Also, where is aerodynamic design to make it more efficient? It looks like a big brick. Truck designs must finally change. The design of trucks has not improved for decades.

    • @zecc81
      @zecc81 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      To even come anywhere close to powering and moving this thing, the most fitting solution is still an ICE. We won't be running out of fossil fuels any time soon either. With current predictions we will be a mainly fossil fuel powered world for many decades to come, for better or for worse. Also, not much of an explorer vehicle if it becomes inoperable, or unable to charge batteries at night/cloudy day.

    • @Bettie_Rage
      @Bettie_Rage 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +zecc81 It's supposed to be explorer truck, so the same applies to diesel. If you run out of it in middle of nowhere (no refueling station), then you are stuck. At least with solar (whole surface and windows covered in hi tech flexible PV technology plus massive, large foldable panels when parked) and wind (body fixed turbine plus massive foldable wind turbine hidden in body and used when parked), you can charge it up anywhere. There is always either wind or sun
      Most of the design seems to be waste of precious resources.
      Anyhow, just because we will be using diesel for next couple of decades, does not mean we should limit our ingenuity to this obsolete method of powering and keep contributing to environmental destruction.
      If they have wasted so many resources (and money) and time on pimping up this environmentally unsustainable truck, they may, as well, have spent it on designing sustainable truck engine (electric or hybrid hydrogen-electric). There are, already trucks using electric engine out there, so they could focus on improving the efficiency of the engine.
      Like someone said underneath. This design is diamond and silver plated spoon. Looks more like a resource expensive toy to play with for rich, rather than an intelligent concept.

    • @DallusDaPwnage
      @DallusDaPwnage 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +Extreme Kaos Do you know how much energy you would need to move this thing? I agree diesel engines aren't shit to electric but this thing would need literally TONS of high density batteries and would take days/weeks to even get 1 hour of drive time off a 10 kwh solar array. I like the folding wind turbine idea but the one while driving would use more energy than it would make.
      But also like you said why the fuck is it square, he's literally got artists at his disposal.

    • @Bettie_Rage
      @Bettie_Rage 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DallusDaPwnage Hi. Thanks for response.
      Being an artist, does not necessary mean that you are skilled technician capable of efficiently and intelligently designing new concept. A lot of artists design things just for asthetic reasons, as priority using inefficient or obsolete ideas.
      Architects are example of it. Most of them, still use concepts, which are few thousand of years old - very resource costly, labour enduring, square designs with starcases, instead of applying dome and circualar shaped configurations with use of sustainable and composite materials. Such design are much more structurally robust - earthquake and tornado resistant. (please check up The Venus Project city and sea city designs, just to compare). Attachemnt to designs based on traditions hinders ability to think out of the box.
      About electric engine.
      There are already electric truck engines out there. You are right that the truck electric engines do not offer so much range as diesel.
      Unfortunately, only few companies design them, so if more innovators cracked on them, we would rapidly improve the technology.
      Please check Smith Electric Trucks or Motive Power Drive Kit. With focusing ingenuity and resources, instead we would dramatically improve this technology to extend the range of truck vehicles.
      I offered hydrogen-electirc hybrid for now until we improve the technology.
      About wind turbine. What I meant is that foldable wind turbine would be used when the truck is parked, but there could be dozens of small wind turbines installed in the body, which could generate power while driving, Of course, it would not produce complete recharge while driving but would decrease the power consumption and extend the range of the truck.
      I'm sure that, if we, globally redirected our inventor manpower on solving problems (such as electric engine) instead of pimping up useless designs, then we would qucikly come up with great solutions and technology.

    • @DallusDaPwnage
      @DallusDaPwnage 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** Electric motors are near perfect you can find 3 phase motors that are 98% efficient, it's all up to the batteries/power storage, the chevy volt has a generator to extend it's range.

    I was hoping that it would use a different fuel.. Hydrogen seems like the obvious choice to me. And seeing as the rig is so big, it would quite easily be able to carry multiple cells, giving it a much longer range than it's current configuration.
    Looking into making all glass surfaces part of a HUD, by somehow integrating pixels internally in the structure, or perhaps by laminating the outside with a see-through material.
    Also, I'm worried that the truck will be too top-heavy, and too heavy in general, to go 'anywhere'.. But the addition of the bike (which should be electric) makes the statement a little more palatable for me.
