They're public intellectuals. We need more of them to clarify our public discourse.

Cielo & Punongbayan are excellent in translating difficult economic concepts to more comprehensive ideas. Listening to this discussion gives peple better perspective why present situations do exist and how economics can help improve human social and financial conditions.

Agree, economics is everywhere. Not limited to purchasing power and money. It has relevance and implications in our daily lives.

if there is no system to pay a tuition fee at UP and you can afford to pay for your children to study there, then I suggest that you donate your money to UP PGH.

I have high respect for both Prof Cielo and Prof JC… but I’m not sure if they were able to provide examples that are very “real” for an ordinary Pinoy citizen.( I think that was what the interviewer was hoping to achieve)

I get your sentiment. Both of them didn't provided a tangible answer to some of the questions. Like on those questions related to the benefits of Economics in the Philippine Society as a whole. But we can still say that they sufficiently expounded on the fact that Economics can help policy-makers to make Data-Driven decisions, the type that the next generation will truly appreciate. Di lang Basta Basta policy making in the end may negative unintended effects pala.

Those travels are encouraged by the system because hopefully they will bring back foreign investments to create employment which will generate money for the workers thus enable them to purchase goods that will make the economy go round, one of the potential benefits of those travels. You can think of those travel expenses as investments wiht the hope of earning returns over time. LOL

The interviewer has to repeatedly ask questions because they are the typical academic that talks about theories.

@@WAN2TREE4 Huh? Seems like you did not understand my comment. Richard has to repeatedly ask the same question because they cant come up with specific practical answers. They cant come up with those kind of answers because they are from the academe. They lack the real world experience of managing money and economy. Look how stephen cuunjieng respond compared to these two.

@@gamingcentral2295 For one, read your initial comment again and see what kind of response you'll get. Stephen Cuunjieng is an investment professional so he knows his thing about money, similar but different area of concentration. Yung host mismo nangangapa kung pano ipe-phrase yung tanong nya so he has to try and try again. Lastly, I am sure they have many answers to the question (professors) but in the process of choosing the exact scenario they ended up unclear to you.

As a market participant, we get frustrated when these jokers comment on the economy based only on economic theories. I believe those people that have created value from something. They don’t get their political affinity to cloud their business decisions. At the end of the day money doesn’t have a flag.

When we overthrow the Marcos Sr. regime we also throw the government capability to care about industry, when steel company is losing in international scene, the government can rescue and cut a deal to certain industry in the end just like the saying " we throw the baby out with the bathwater" we should bring back the government capability to build care and rescue industry just like VietNam, communist sila pero nakapagbuild sila ng industry thru this method.

I believe marcos Sr. has the right prints of nation building in an Industrialist POV. pero during that day andami rin namang corruption pero gaya nga ng sabi ko sana inalis nalang yung corrupt ipinagpatuloy yung industry building.
