I GAVE THIS RETIRED ARMY TRUCK "EFFIE" A NEW LIFE

  • In the winter of 2016 I dug this 1985 CUCV M1028 dubbed "EFFIE" out of a snow bank in the mountains of Utah where I grew up. It is equipped with a Dana 60 in the front and a Corporate 14 bolt in the rear both with limited slip. I originally got the truck to part out but once I had it I couldn't let it die in the scrap yard. It was too cool and had so much character that i decided to build it into an offroad machine.
    I started by removing the monster leaf spring pack in the rear that was on it for hauling a large shelter like camper on the back. I removed all but 3 or 4 leaf springs and installed a shackle flip from DIY4x. In the front I removed the factory leaf springs and swapped in a set of 56" leaf springs from the rear of a k5 blazer with brackets also from DIY4x. the front brackets allowed me to move that axle forward 1" for better approach. I installed crossover/high steer steering kit as well as a low profile engine crossmember from Ryan Agan at Agan Fabworks. After all the suspension work the truck gained about 5" lift and a TON of flex and also ride unbelievably well for a leaf spring truck. I added some 37" Mastercraft mud terrain tires and hit the trails!
    Thanks for watching. Subscribe if you are new!

    Awesome truck bro, really nice built! As you have moved the front axle 1" forward, are you getting some interference with the links? What shocks (travel) you have installed and how long are your shackles in the back? Are you using eazy inches in the back, to compenansate the movement of the rear axle bit forward? Thank you very much ;)

    Do you have 56"s in the front, or is this just a mistypo? And how long are your shackles front and rear? Do they have sometimes in the front contact with the frame? Thanx

    Did you have to add any degree shims for pinion angle? Or lengthen the driveshaft?

    • @RobbyVsGarage
      @RobbyVsGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should have added shims but I didnt. Only had to lengthen the front driveshaft
