As a professional language tutor with years of experience, I would like to say that it is important to establish a plan which would be suitable to each student. Each person learns in a different manner, however, audio-visual works well. I teach my students to use association and train the brain to welcome the new language. How is this done? Making the language enjoyable and pragmatic. One step at a time. Most important is to learn a language to communicate at ease and effectively. It is a fact that the more languages one command - it becomes easier to learn another one. Nevertheless, life is not about having command of many languages as there is more much more to be disocovered at each stage of our lives. Enjoy
Spanish, Italian and French. I get awards yearly. If students do not learn after taking a short crash course: eg a Collouquial one which is ideal for travellers, etc. they get a full refund. We only expect the student attended all the lessons as per his/her timetable. Study the notes (which are given free of charge) and has his/her homework up to date. Moreover, we offer a free cuppa and nibbles. 24/7 on line assistance and a report at the end of each and every lesson. Mila Giganti Curchod - Safari Corporation - Melbourne/Australia
I love your way of speaking. Actually, watching the video helped me to reconnect with my journey and why I was doing it. Just very informative and calming. Thanks a lot. I will follow you for more!
One of the best things to do when you want to master something, it's to look how did it the people who have already achieved what you want. I Started Italian January first and German 3 months ago, I didn't skip any day and I'm also studying German using English, and Italian using Spanish. I'm happy to know that I'm already following the same steps that you're saying in the video, that means that I'm going for the good path.
I speak English / German / bit of Norwegian. Am learning Swiss German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian. My first goal is to master 8 languages. Then be open minded to more if the excitement is there
I'm learning English with the help of TH-cam. My method is shadowing bloggers and making my channel. But my motivation decreases when English speakers make rude comments under my videos. I block such people. But I always think afterwards: "Are these the people I want to communicate with? Do I want to work as a tour guide to give tours to these people?" After that, I usually take a break from language learning. I should probably get distracted and study Italian. Italians seem nice and fun to me.
Amazing video! Currently I'm learning Russian language... I'm a native Spanish speaker (I live in Mexico), so it's a hard trip; the language structure is so different. Even without the grammatical cases, Russian is very complex, but the need to learn 6 grammatical cases _(12 cases indeed, 6 for singular, 6 for plural, and, as you may know, they sometimes "overlap" [using the same word-endings], which is very hard and demotivating for a Russian-learning "newbie"... and don't get me started with "the exceptions" to the already hard rules)_ makes it a very challenging language to learn. Somehow I keep interested on it and every day I find a new enthusiasm for it. I've found I love this language: there is not an "economical" interest, curricular interest or physical profit for me in learning it _(at least, not that I see any of these for now)_ other than enjoying the act of understanding/reading/speaking/writing it; I just like it, and I'm learning it by my own means, just as I did it with English. I will consider all of your tips and will apply them on my learning journey. Really, thank you. Best regards!
Well, there are really no shortcuts... you are already noticing the important aspects of highly reflective (a lot of word changes) languages such as Russian. Be encouraged that after learning Russian it will be much easier to learn the other Slavic languages- for grammatical and lexical (vocabulary) reasons. Only Bulgarian and Macedonian don't have that case system.
My five year old son also has a problem with the cases of the Russian language. He cannot learn the cases. Russian is his mother language and the only language he speaks. So you are not the only person who doesn't like cases in Russian. Good luck with your learning! У моего пятилетнего сына тоже есть проблемы с изучением падежей русского языка. Он не может выучить падежи. Русский язык для него родной и единственный язык, который он знает. Так что не только вам не нравятся падежи русского языка. Удачи в изучении!
Focus more on vocabulary. The cases aren't actually that vital to effective communication. More important to know all the words you want to say. The cases are kind of like articles in English or Spanish, they're important but when a foreigner completely drops them you can still understand everything he's saying

I also participate in language exchanges with native speakers hoping to improve my intonation as well. I feel like progress is there but I need to create the same self discipline that is stated here. I watched this video a month ago, and I decided to follow these tips. I normally get my New Year's resolutions on September 23, cause it's my very birthday. So I've just decided this: 1. Focus on Spanish (review A2 level and go for a B1 course - I've been putting this off, but I've bought the book already - work the 4 abilities). 2. English: overcome the intermediate plateau; for this I've enrolled myself into an advanced class here in Brazil; 3. For my French, I've taken it up after some time off, but I'll just review the A2 Mobile book I've neglected when I studied it and try to consolidate my A2 level: gonna focus on writing and speaking here; 4. Get started in German: I've bought a book but didn't even open it. By the end of September 2024, I'll come back here to share the results. Thank you for your help. Hugs from Brazil.

I am an a self-learner and my question is: You mentioned in your video that you studied in different schools (at first) and then you mention that you are "a self-learner". Did you study in a school or not or do you always had/have been "a self-learner???... I have a PhD in science (chemistry, physics, nanotechnology, etc.) but I am currently doing research in the world of languages because I want to demonstrate to a community of language teachers (I am going to attend a language conference) that it is possible to learn a new language in a few months (I learned English in 6 months) and I am learning French (I have not dedicated time to it because I am doing research) but I am learning my fourth language AND WITHOUT GOING TO SCHOOL I mean as " a self-learner ", that is why I am interested in knowing your answer and if you are available one day I would love to talk to you by videochat. Greetings and excellent video. From Mexico city
Hi Fernando, most of the languages I have learned have not been in the classroom. I use various materials depending on the language but they usually include textbooks, grammar books, videos, podcasts, etc. Sure, let's have a chat sometime. You can message me timkeeley@polyglotdreams.com to set up a time.
Olá! O que você faz para não confundir tantos idiomas? Sou brasileira e estou estudando ao mesmo tempo: inglês, francês, italiano (espanhol foi meu primeiro idioma estudado a fundo), mas acabo confundindo-os!!!! Alguma dica para não confundir na hora de falar? Grata.
Please sir. Speak about start learning new languages at old ages for example start learning at the age of 40 , 50 ,60,70,80 Please discuss this issue , is it possible to start Self learning of a new language at old age ? Does it worth ? Is it fruitful ? Or learning shows good results at young age only ? Please speak about this
The pronunciation of the letter "r" in French can vary depending on its position in a word and the regional accent. There are two main ways to pronounce the letter "r" in French: the guttural "r" and the uvular "r." Guttural "r": This is the most common way of pronouncing "r" in French. It is produced at the back of the throat and is often described as a guttural sound. To produce the guttural "r," try making a soft growling or clearing your throat sound. It is similar to the "ch" sound in the German word "Bach" or the Scottish "loch." Example: "rue" (street), "mer" (sea) Uvular "r": In some French accents, particularly in certain regions of France and in Quebec, Canada, the "r" is pronounced with the back of the tongue against the uvula, which is the fleshy extension at the back of the throat. This is a deeper and more pronounced sound compared to the guttural "r." Example: "Paris," "porte" (door) To practice the pronunciation of the French "r," you may find it helpful to listen to native speakers or use language learning resources that provide audio examples. Keep in mind that there is some variation in pronunciation among French speakers, so the "r" sound may differ slightly depending on the speaker's regional accent.
How does one earn enough money to survive while traveling 😢 I’m going to Brazil for six months but it took me one year of working and saving for this to happen.
For me, it was very different among the stages in my life. Between the ages of 18 to 20 I traveled cheaply. After that I lived in Poland for graduate school. It was very cheap and I sold goods on the black market. You can read my life story... please take a look at polyglotdreams.com
Sure, I have done so my whole life. It started when I studied German, French, and Portuguese in Spanish, in Bogota (from 1975). It is difficult for me to give you advice on a plan... it depends on how much study time you have every day. I would simply say you should seek to sty udy each of the languages every day or close to every day, even if it is for only 20 minutes for each language.
eu sei inglês bem e o meu sonho é falar 8 linguas, e eu queria te perguntar o senhor acha necessseriao estudar gramatica ou não? Ou só estudar o básico A1-B2?
I live most of my life in Japan, and I am a Japanese citizen... but I grew up in South Florida with English as my mother tongue and Cuban Spanish as my second language.
I love Spanish and I have been learning by myself Spanish and English language. I speak more than 3languages. I'm pharmacist, but I'm in love with languages
You are not the only one who thinks so... it took a long time for the R sound to roll off my tongue naturally. One student I am mentoring for 2 years still has not got it.
Sounds good but you should put translation or Arabic subtitles as there a plenty of people don't know English or they have no ability to understand like me But you are clever person 🖤
I'd be happy just to master 3 languages whereas you've mastered 30 languages. I've asked a question but not sure if you saw it. I've clarified my question. If you need more clarification please let me know. Please answer it
My question: Do you think there would have been a difference if you had started in your 20s instead of 18? I will watch your video and give it a comment too. That's a good plan for 2024! Hope your channel grows at least 2x in 2024 @polyglotdreams Your response: @KpopListener not really because at my age now that is only a difference of about 5 to 10 % My question after clarifying: I mean do you think you would have learned languages better starting at 18 than if you had started in your 20s? @polyglotdreams @@polyglotdreams
Oh, it would never have occurred to me to try learning Japanese and Korean in anything other than English. But the VHS here in Germany always keeps insisting on using a German course book, even if it is not particularly good. I think that's so stupid. Yes, there are some people who don't speak English. Okay, so let them learn English first, and then try Japanese and Korean.
I feel like despite being inspirational, some messages that this video conveys are unrealistic. I am sure there are plenty of people like you who have a gifted mind for languages, but it is unrealistic to expect that learning several languages at the same time will work, like, not even 2 but 3 languages at a time, that is so absurdly difficult. Here, I am advocating for people like me, who have an distinct interest in learning languages but take around 2 years to reach an intermediate level. This is as ridiculous as expecting to learn a completely different language in a few months just because a friend speaks it natively. What I am saying is that, even though I am really impressed and I congratulate you for achieving such greatness by learning 6 languages in 4 years, it gives an unrealistic image of what the path towards learning several languages is, as if it was so seamless. To highlight some of the positive things of this video in order not to sound so negative, I can reiterate that it is inspirational, and I liked to see that I was already doing the laddering and trying to spot similarities and differences between languages I am learning. All the best
Hello my dear friend I am not able to travel around the world due to financial constraints, but I am learning several languages How can I master several languages without traveling and talking to people?
@polyglotdreams my mother language is hindi, your is english. These two look like two different languages, but as soon as you get into details, you find out they are extremely similar in structure, morphology, and the way word are put together. Calling them two different dialects of the same language may be too much of a starch, but certainty they shouldn't be called two different languages. Afro asiatic languages have changed so much from their root that you can call the modern ones different languages, but this difference is not there to be found in case the various deformed forms of yamnaya speech
All very well. Unlike you most people do not have the resources to learn several different languages. The thing is they have to work to earn a living...and they have families...
You know man,I am not Russian, but in my country Russian is 2nd languages for vast major of people, please speak and communicate more and be obsessed with, Then you can obtain all Russian easyly!
My eternal doubt is, doing this requires a privileged memory to retain so much vocabulary, conjugations, etc, etc, etc? How can one speak so many languages or learn this much without an elephant memory?
Well for starters you can watch this video but I must say it was not only challenging switching among 30 languages but also in quite a few languages Walter would quickly change the subject and just say few memorized phrases making it difficult to get into the flow. th-cam.com/video/Qtkn1LUWpKY/w-d-xo.html
these are just so fake !! just coz u know basic words and basic sentences it doesn’t mean you speak a language !!! speaking a language means u are able to understand novels romans or wikipedia for example on that language ! nowadays everybody is making others fool by these videos !
Very interesting attitude you have. I guess you don't understand enough to make a judgment properly in this case... or you didn't watch, for example, the video I just published in which I have conversations in 10 languages. .. just something drives you to react this way. Frustration 🫤 ? Whatever it is, I hope you can overcome it and enjoy language learning and associated cultural understanding and experiences.
Actually I went to university in Spanish and French... read all the novels of Jorge Amado in Portuguese, studied Russian Literature in Poland... and I can order hamburgers too.❤
Can you make a video about how knowing different languages change your worldview? And how your worldview differs from those who use google translate world news please? THANKS
Definitely... thanks for the suggestion... I have been planning to do one similar to that and I will think of how to incorporate your input- the last sentence...

this video describes the active learning mentality that i experience when learning languages to a T
Fantastic... I am excited to know it resonates with you.
What do you think of Google translate. It might not always have the perfect grammar but it does give audio translation too - which is huge
I think it is getting better and better... it depends on the 2 languages involved. Do you ever use Deepl, Bing, and Reverso Contexto?
❤ Thanks
So pleased to have you come to my channel.
Thanks

Grata.
Read a lot and listen to a lot of media in the languages.
Please sir. Speak about start learning new languages at old ages for example start learning at the age of 40 , 50 ,60,70,80 Please discuss this issue , is it possible to start Self learning of a new language at old age ? Does it worth ? Is it fruitful ? Or learning shows good results at young age only ? Please speak about this
Yes, I will
Steve Kaufman learned 10 languages after he was already 60 years old. 😊
Hello I'm learning english and spanish at same time . Yo quiero aprender más francés y italiano. Hasta luego
Great... do you speak Portuguese?
Sir, Can you tell me how you Pronounce R in french please
The pronunciation of the letter "r" in French can vary depending on its position in a word and the regional accent. There are two main ways to pronounce the letter "r" in French: the guttural "r" and the uvular "r."
Guttural "r": This is the most common way of pronouncing "r" in French. It is produced at the back of the throat and is often described as a guttural sound. To produce the guttural "r," try making a soft growling or clearing your throat sound. It is similar to the "ch" sound in the German word "Bach" or the Scottish "loch."
Example: "rue" (street), "mer" (sea)
Uvular "r": In some French accents, particularly in certain regions of France and in Quebec, Canada, the "r" is pronounced with the back of the tongue against the uvula, which is the fleshy extension at the back of the throat. This is a deeper and more pronounced sound compared to the guttural "r."
Example: "Paris," "porte" (door)
To practice the pronunciation of the French "r," you may find it helpful to listen to native speakers or use language learning resources that provide audio examples. Keep in mind that there is some variation in pronunciation among French speakers, so the "r" sound may differ slightly depending on the speaker's regional accent.
Excelent
Thank you for your interest and encouraging comment.

How does one earn enough money to survive while traveling 😢
I’m going to Brazil for six months but it took me one year of working and saving for this to happen.
For me, it was very different among the stages in my life. Between the ages of 18 to 20 I traveled cheaply. After that I lived in Poland for graduate school. It was very cheap and I sold goods on the black market. You can read my life story... please take a look at polyglotdreams.com
Can I learn two languages at the same time if yes could you please an advice how to make a plan for it?
Thx in advance
Sure, I have done so my whole life. It started when I studied German, French, and Portuguese in Spanish, in Bogota (from 1975).
It is difficult for me to give you advice on a plan... it depends on how much study time you have every day. I would simply say you should seek to sty udy each of the languages every day or close to every day, even if it is for only 20 minutes for each language.
Very good tips
Thanks for the support
eu sei inglês bem e o meu sonho é falar 8 linguas, e eu queria te perguntar o senhor acha necessseriao estudar gramatica ou não? Ou só estudar o básico A1-B2?
A gramática é simplesmente uma descrição de como funciona uma linguagem. Assim, conhecer a gramática é muito útil.
That's awesome!
What country were you born in?
Thanks so much... 🇺🇸 but I am a Japanese citizen
@@polyglotdreams Oh! You're the first polyglot from Japan I've seen here. You don't have a Japanese accent in English.
That's terrific 😮, but where are you from? What is your mother tongue?
I live most of my life in Japan, and I am a Japanese citizen... but I grew up in South Florida with English as my mother tongue and Cuban Spanish as my second language.
I love Spanish and I have been learning by myself Spanish and English language. I speak more than 3languages. I'm pharmacist, but I'm in love with languages
@@polyglotdreams WOW, that's absolutely interesting.
Spanish grammar is hard. Im still trying to pronounce r
You are not the only one who thinks so... it took a long time for the R sound to roll off my tongue naturally. One student I am mentoring for 2 years still has not got it.
Sounds good but you should put translation or Arabic subtitles as there a plenty of people don't know English or they have no ability to understand like me
But you are clever person 🖤
That is quite a task
I'd be happy just to master 3 languages whereas you've mastered 30 languages. I've asked a question but not sure if you saw it. I've clarified my question. If you need more clarification please let me know. Please answer it
Sorry, I might have missed the question. Please ask again.
If you look at my comment from your Try S.M.A.R.T to learn FAST | Learn languages in 2024 video my question is the last reply @@polyglotdreams
I can copy and paste the replies and my question if you want@@polyglotdreams
My question: Do you think there would have been a difference if you had started in your 20s instead of 18? I will watch your video and give it a comment too. That's a good plan for 2024! Hope your channel grows at least 2x in 2024 @polyglotdreams
Your response: @KpopListener not really because at my age now that is only a difference of about 5 to 10 %
My question after clarifying: I mean do you think you would have learned languages better starting at 18 than if you had started in your 20s? @polyglotdreams @@polyglotdreams
merak ediyorum, türkçe biliyor musun? teşekkürler...
Not yet. I fly Turkish Airlines a lot. I was in Istanbul 4 days ago. I definitely want to learn Turkish, Kazakh, Kirgiz and Azerbaijani.
@@polyglotdreams ^_^ awesome
Dude your memoirs on your website are just in English, Chinese and Italian.
I am in the process of adding more... French is next followed by Portuguese and Spanish.
I think studying languages in other languages that I have learnt is very stimulating and a great way to learn.
with some rare language you don't have a choice like i had to take lessons in french for wolof
Thanks for the input. The main issue is whether or not someone has the passion to dedicate the necessary time and effort.
Hello my dear friend
I am not able to travel around the world due to financial constraints, but I am learning several languages
How can I master several languages without traveling and talking to people?
Use the Internet for media in the language and find exchange partners
I'm trying learn only one more and has people capable to learn 8! hahaha It's frustrating.
Keep at it and you will see it gets easier to learn new languages... especially ones that are similar to the ones you already know.
Not being a hater but all of these are just different dialects of yamanaya language
(Edit: still impressive)
Please explain.... 3300-2600 BCE was a long time ago.
Same in my case but I designed my life to be able to travel. learn and experience. In 1976 I traveled all around South America on 900 USD
he did all of that in the 1970s now we got internet so you can just learn at home or even on the bus or at work with podcasts if their boss lets them.
You know man,I am not Russian, but in my country Russian is 2nd languages for vast major of people, please speak and communicate more and be obsessed with, Then you can obtain all Russian easyly!
Where your country? It is a former Soviet Republic?
First target is 8 languages but 10 sounds like a more rounded number 😂
Go for it!
French are good at japanese. I wonder why ❓
I don't know many Japanese speaking French people in Japan...
My eternal doubt is, doing this requires a privileged memory to retain so much vocabulary, conjugations, etc, etc, etc? How can one speak so many languages or learn this much without an elephant memory?
Your ability increases along the way.
Lovely!
I am so hope to hear from you
Здравствуйте
But unfortunately did not say any word по-русски.
Bye for now
До свидания
Thank you
Спасибо
Спасибо. Выложу видео, в котором я говорил по-русски, находясь в Непале.
Yeah well, let’s hear how well you speak some of them. Lotta pseudo out there, folks.
You miss the most beautiful language on Earth , Arabic.
لقد درست اللغة العربية في الجامعة منذ 46 عامًا.

2 Arab comments, and both very arrogant.
Eight languages in 4 years. Yeah, A1. So you can order a hamburger and buy a lattte in eight languages. Congrats.
Thanks! Yes, I’m looking forward to it.@@polyglotdreams
