Leech Trapping Learning NEW BAIT & POND

- In this latest adventure of Wisconsin Fisherman, we take on the challenge of trapping leeches in a new pond using two different baits: dead minnows and our trusty chicken liver. Despite our best efforts, we didn't catch as many leeches as we hoped. However, the experience taught us valuable lessons, and we discovered that we might need to set our traps deeper in the water. Join us as we experiment, learn, and prepare for our next attempt!

it's always worth the effort, now you know!
Love your videos! Keep em coming.
Future video?
Blood sucker vs. ribbon leeches fishing contest.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. It's good to see that you try other spots. We're not sure what that bird was either. LOL besides dead... Thanks for sharing your adventure Kyle.
You bet gotta try…
My experience, Beaver ponds and runs seldomly have leaches unless they’ve been there for a while ! Keep up the good work !
I see! I’m thinking of getting the canoe out here and doing some traps in the middle I tried ice fishing it. It’s about 12’ deep
i would deffinitley try that first pond again out deeper around the main shoreline edges. ive been on a couple ponds that have been great but had absolutley nothing in the little bays/ run ways like you had your traps in in this video, good luck! if you do try it i hope to see a video on it! (btw Kayak works great bait the traps up at shore stick em in a bucket between your legs)
Oh, you bet! I think I’m gonna end up dragging the canoe down there putting some right in the middle. I’ve seen videos of people that put them in the middle of ponds
It seems to me that your initial successes were in areas with vegetation and fairly shallow, still water and I think with chicken liver for bait. I think leeches want cover for safety and for something to cling to until they sense a meal so will rarely be found in moving water and mostly mud bottom as a prime target. Have a good one.
I’ve been there before!!
The things I’ve learned that they aren’t in man-made runoff ponds or ponds that have fish in.
But you don’t know if if you don’t try
Are you thinking of trying the minnows in a different spot? It would definitely be nice if they worked.
You kinda look like that Copenhagen Bandit dude lol

Just subscribed. 👍 What months are best for trapping leeches in N. Wisconsin?
I’ve never tried that before. Great idea.
Been coming up to Vilas County since the 1960’s. Love it up there. ❤
Best in the spring
What body of water is the best for trapping leeches? Are they in swamps, wetlands, ponds, lakes. Too expensive to buy looking to start getting them myself. I’m in Ohio as well. And when is the best months to start trapping.?
Trap in the spring, and find water with frogs and tadpoles muddy weedy swampy
you know why you can find blood suckers in a lake and not leaches ? because fish don't eat blood suckers. If you have any questions on leach trapping just ask, I used to do it commercially for years.
Thank you! What’s the criteria of pond you look for? As well what’s the best traps!?
@@Wisconsin_Fisherman just like the pond you are at , as for traps there are a few different ones but for testing what you are using works. what you need to do when testing is get out in a canoe and put out at least a doz traps all over. also with using chicken livers leaches, blood suckers and minnows will pull it out of the trap or they will eat and leave for some reason. if you can try beef kidneys . If I am correct you are by Hayward and I am less then a hour north of you.
