    My neighbor tried and tried to fix his leak. His wife is my best friend and I am a pretty handy elderly lady. I did one thing and then another then I finally checked the anti-siphon and as in your case the washer was folded over. It was a newly installed spigot. It hadn’t been on there very long and it didn’t leak when installed. And, it didn’t leak after I repaired it.

    Thanks for sharing in your video that the vacuum breaker top pops off. I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t get it off by trying to unscrew it. LoL!

    Thank you! Had this issue and it ended up the washe just needed to be repositioned. Cost me nothing but about maybe 5 minutes of my time to fix it.

    Wow...for the last two years I have had to keep a container under the spigot to keep water from leaking near foundation while using my garden hose. If I forgot to turn off the water after using the hose it would drip all day and night. On a whim I did a youtube search and found this video. Just came in from fixing the anti-siphon valve! The washer was ok, but some sediment, probably from plumbing work that was done two years ago and shook up the system a bit. Solved the problem. No leak. No $ spent. Thank you very much. I could never figure out why the cover would not some off when I tried to unscrew it....lol...you taught me how to remove the cover. I will pick up a repair kit to have on hand just in case. Thank you.

    Nice job! The result speaks for itself :) How did you determine it's the vacuum breaker that needs replaced? Mine leaks water out of the knob and I'm thinking it's the cartridge problem and I plan to replace the whole sillcock. (Why don't they sell just the stem cartridges by themselves?!)

    Much easier to fix than replacing the faucet. And instead of buying the kit, I'll just look for a suitable washer first.

    If you wanted to get the OEM part, it's made by Prier, part # C-144KT-806 or 630-7500 but it will cost between $10 and $15.

    I had the same problem and what I found out is that there are quite a few different replacement assemblies and finding the right one to fit your hose bib might be a challenge. The O-ring that seals the unit may not need replaced , you can probably reuse it if you just put a little bit of silicone or teflon grease on it. The part that needs replaced is the flat rubber washer and it seems to be a standard size for all of them. The ones I got came in a package of 10 so you will have spares and you can get them at home depot, etc. They are the Danco 000 flat rubber washers. the size is an industry standard- triple zero or 000.

    Pat, I have a question. I have same problem so I bought the one in Home Depot too. However both new inside piece and outside piece do not fit, so I only replaced that inside rubber ring, is that going to be ok? No leak after that.

    • @aroundthehousewithpat31
      @aroundthehousewithpat31  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it will be fine. I have found it’s always that washer that causes the problem. I’m happy you were able to fix it.

    What would you do after fixing when water flows from the spigot appropriately but when the hose is attached the water does not flow thrugh the hose? Assuming its a pressure thing but could there be something else wrong inside the spigot mechanics?

    • @aroundthehousewithpat31
      @aroundthehousewithpat31  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would check the hose to be sure it’s not kinked or blocked and check the nozzle to be sure it’s working.

      I'm having the same problem!
      The water flows without a hose.
      When I attach the hose I can hear it running under my house and the water won't come out the hose.
      Definitely not my hose!
      Any suggestions? Thanks!

    • @aroundthehousewithpat31
      @aroundthehousewithpat31  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dreamalea51280 if your hearing water running under your house you may have a a broken spigot. I would go under the house at the point of the spigot and check for leaks. You shouldn’t hear water running if there is no flow.

    I have mainstream faucet outside (2) both are linking really bad what is the purpose of that top piece?? Could someone get back to me please

    • @aroundthehousewithpat31
      @aroundthehousewithpat31  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Paul. The top piece is the vacuum breaker. It is what prevents the water that is in the hose from being pulled back into the water system on the other side of the valve. That being your water pipes that supply water to any of the indoor faucets.

      @@franciscobueno6589 I’m not sure. It seems to me that it is the orbit device causing it to leak. It must be causing some kind of back pressure I’m thinking if it is doing that with the orbit device connected.

    I would steer anybody away from a PRIER hose Bibb. Got to be the poorest made valve I've ever seen. They require constant maintenance and the stems strip inside the shutoff because they only use a dab of soft solder to connect the stem to the inside shutoff screw. MADE TO FAIL so you keep buying replacement parts. Stem replacements are a yearly 40 dollars.

    • @aroundthehousewithpat31
      @aroundthehousewithpat31  ปีที่แล้ว

      If I didn’t have to cut holes in the basement sheet rock I would have just replaced it. Repairing was easier than getting involved in all that and then having to repaint. It was installed when the house was built. Thanks for your feedback though.
