I love how you emphasize using readily available materials like vaseline, cable ties, and metal wire to solve everyday problems. Your creativity and resourcefulness are truly inspiring. Thanks for empowering us to tackle plumbing tasks with confidence.
I like the wire/nail trick. I’ve patched so many hoses or drip systems myself. Never tried a lighter as it’s pretty windy here, but used super hot water….same idea.
Cable ties are not designed for use outdoors. The ultraviolet of sun light will cause them to break down and become brittle so they will eventually fall off. The wire clamp is a great idea thanks for showing it.
Not all cable ties are affected by the sun. There’s UV resistant cable ties. Alit takes a long time for the sun to affect non UV resistant cable ties. Many years.
I've done this repair with hose that is under great pressure but I used one continuous wire to make the loops to keep the connection together so it won't come apart under pressure.
last time I did something like this I put the pipe in a piece of sand paper and twisted it round, it holds a little of the petroleum jelly but also gives the wire something to bite into and get some extra friction to hold it even tighter.... Great idea with the wire thanks for sharing
Amazon sells little pin torch lighters that are great for crafts and this sort of thing. Great for soldering and shrink tube. Those Bic lighters will burn your fingers and are much slower. They are better than nothing, that's a low bar. When you wind the wire clamp, you need to twist the wires around each other, NOT wind one wire around the other one. Skip the nail and use a pair of pliers, grip all 4 wires and wind and twist them around each other to make it tight and stay tight.
I wonder if simply sanding the cut edge of the PVC section and then using water to lubricate it would work, instead of using Vaseline? A permanent lubricant could result in slippage later.

If you use ty/raps out side use black ones they hold up a lot longer then any other color from the heat of the sun.

That’s a smart idea! Sanding and water might just do the trick. Thanks for sharing!
Additionally, soften the hose with some near boiling water to slip over the tube !! @@LindaHome68

You need higher aptitude to understand.
Buying connectors instead of all this is much easier
Thank you for your feedback! It’s great to explore different approaches. This hack is for those who enjoy creative solutions. 😊
Is there a reason why one side is fixed with 2 cable ties and the other is fixed with a wire?
Great question, David! The wire provides more strength where needed, but both options work depending on what’s available.
I want to provide 2 options so that you can choose which option is suit for you
Use a hair drier to soften the hose.
Good idea
👍👍👍
