While I do have and occasionally use locking tweezers, I much prefer scissor-type tweezers that you pinch or squeeze to open and release to close. These are far easier for most people to operate and they work great for handing a stone over to someone without dropping it.
I also put a piece of shrink tubing on the tips of my tweezers which both protects the stones (especially softer materials) but also provides additional grip for the stone as well.

Yeah for sure, the reverse style tweezers can work too. We generally see them more on the jeweller's bench than the gemmological desk. Though I would be a bit scared to use that style while sorting stones under 3mm 😂.

TH-cam really stinks for finding and being recommended new gemstone channels. Once again, it was by sheer luck and having very specific search terms that I found your channel.
    For the algos!

Most good gemmological supply stores will have tweezers like this. Or you can try searching for "locking gemstone tweezers" on Google, eBay etc.

It can be very annoying when your gem pings across the room into the carpet 🤦‍♂The grooved ones are really handy. Great video 2x👍

Haha yeah for sure! I worked in diamond wholesale many years back and there was always the audible groan across the office when someone pinged a stone. They always seem to ping to the most unexpected locations too, never where you thought they would have landed 🤣.

Out of curiosity why not use a Gem 4 prong grabber Is more of secure holder You can twirl the Gem showing them the crown or swap around the pavilion part if been faceted

For our non-profit work we actually do include a gem grabber as well as gem tweezers. However, though they are a bit more simple to use initially, they are actually generally a bit less reliable than tweezers. They are also no good for quick and dexterous movements like sorting stones. But perhaps there is another video there, one on the pros and cons of tweezers vs grabbers 😄
