Looking back at this video now...I am proud of the monster classes for coming as far as they have in recent Disgaea games.
This video is so old. A lot of good nostalgia for me. :)

why did they, and so many monsters get canned for disgaea 2 and 3?
Something I always found interesting (which you didn't really show in the video) is how the different tiers of dragons get different attacks. I mean sure, the only real difference was the name and element but still. Like how the first dragon (the green one) gets Dragonic Furor whereas the Fafnir (the blue one) gets an ice type variant of that

It's a shame that out of all the monster's the only ones worth using are:
Dragon, Rich Demon , Nightmare, Galactic Demon, Sea Serpent, Manticore and Great Wyrm
And that is only because their skills bring either elemental coverage or many patterns. Problem is that only Dragon, Manticore and Nightmare are easy monster to get started and train where everything else is pretty much post game.
Even more sad is that the only monsters that hold their own against humanoid classes are Galactic demons and Great Wyrms. Great Wyrm because they are such fantastic crowd control units and Galactic Demon because they are the best Tanker in the game and the only class that can Rival Majin's in Power because extra high defenses tends to perform better then a mix of high defense and HP.
Wow, glad they changed the Prinnies voice from D2 onwards ^^;
Well my prinny, sucubus, nekomata, and pixie...(i think thats what it's called. The one with the chomping belly) are just as good as my humanoid classes on Disgaea ds

I miss the hobbits, the one that uses hell pepper (I prefer him over the moth), Great Wyrm, Jack o Lantern, and the knight whose head is fire.
those sound fx make the crapiest attack look badass
No literally, I loved the sound FX of disgaea 1 it all sounded so brutal and epic. Especially the regular character skill FX. It just doesn’t sound the same in the other disgaea’s. The AXE skills were my favorite they sounded so brutal

Ah I didn't know. I'm not familiar with the Disgaea series. My first Nipponichi (not sure of correct spelling) game was Soul Nomad aka Soul Cradle in JPN. I liked it, would you recommend this game as well?

This. I used the Hobbits as far as I could until they were truly obsolete.
I really wish they'd make a come back in Disgaea 4 like the Gargoyle class did, Monster characters are so much more useful in later games.
The monsters could have used more than just slightly altered versions of the same two sound files for everyone except the Nekomata and Succubus.
only a special sword called yoshitsuna can do that.

Problem is finding this game. I do know the 3rd game is for the PS3, so it must have a history. Plot is also a concern to me, so I'm wondering if I should start here if I find the game or can I jump to the PS3 one and not miss out on anything.

That's a serpent, I believe they only appear in the item world and very high level dark assemblies
