I used to poke my fingers in the soil to see if the potatoes and carrots where growing. But than my grandfather told me "well it was a good thing your mother wasn't curious how you where growing!" I simply can't wait till I see the roots coming out of the little holes in the pots and lift them up daily :) I also sowed tomatoes, peppers and pepino's in transparent coffee cups to see the roots. I'll do the same with Fuchsia cuttings.
Great to see what the plant looks like. I just bought a few of these fruits at my local market. I'm quite amazed at how much it actually does taste like a melon... pleasant and mild flavored , sweetest when it gives a little to pressure. Texture was a bit creamy yet still had a crispness to it. In the part of South Florida where I live in the USA, we only get light frosts and only about every 5 years with only die back on the most sensitive tropical plants so I will definitely be planting the seeds of my pepino melons. Wish me luck! Lol
Thanks for posting this information. I will get started growing some with confidence. The perlite in your potting soil looks like just the thing to give much needed air to the mix.
I'm trying to grow some now in a covered seed tray in my Tunnel House No sign of life yet but may only be Two weeks Also my Goji berries only 3 germinated out of 27
No need! You see the tiny roots become bigger and bigger and more visible in the dark soil :) It's nice to see. At first you can see some tiny white worm like roots. At the end you can see some dark soil between the roots. Than it is high time for transplanting. Don't forget to make holes in the bottom of the cups.
Thanks... worked wonders.. no root strike needed. Took about 1 week for the roots to start showing... how dense were the roots before you moved from water to soil?
one thing you can do or try is.left over banana sking cut in small pices and in a container with water an water them 2 times a week .my grow in 2 weeks from cutting.also peee in a container and mix with water and water the pepinos plant
@@TheKiwiGrower please help. I purchase seeds 4 exactly came in the mail. Did paper towel starter. I have only 1 seed that's sprouting and actually has the first tiny leaves. How deep do i plant and should i just leave on paper towel. Leaves not covered. They are teeny tiny TIA
Finally I know Hey my pepinos wäre mit gemeint anymore. They are 2 months old now and have the size of your second littlest. How old habe doch plants been when you recorded that Video?
I bought two and ate the first one but it didn't have any seeds =( Maybe it was a different variety. You can see a picture of the ones I bought on my facebook, perhaps you could tell me why mine didn't have any seeds.

first I heard of them and so many flavors throughout the growing time sounds good to me :) so I'm wondering now how long from planting to harvest ?
I keep getting blooms but no fruits
Fantastic video! Does pepino require manual pollination?
No, but it can help if you don't have a lot of pollinators around :)
aw thanks. hopefully i can order seeds
from there, since im from the United States..

They grow sooo slow Kalem - I'll have to dig mine up and try to overwinter them. How long does it take for them to produce fruit?

I need seeds bro I'm from India how❓
Do these plants live more years like trees? Or do they die after one year like a cucumberplant?
Will it grow in tropical conditions?
Yup I believe so. They don’t like the cold much, so a bit of warmth should be good :)
May I know where you buy those seeds from?
I got some seeds and started them in small cups... hope they can hold up to repotting .... maybe i shoulda just started them in a big pot... :s
They should be all good, just let the plants get strong enough first :)

I still have not tasted one. When ripe, they're supposed to taste like melons. Do you agree?
Yes if fully ripe they’re quite melon like. A little mild in flavour though :)
